I haven't read these yet, but my friend had recommended a series called Temeraire, which basically takes place during the era of Napoleon in France, except his army also utilizes dragons. I also really enjoyed Shadow of the Wind, which is basically a mystery/romance that takes place in 1945 Barcelona, Spain. These are both historical fiction, btw. As for urban fantasy...uhh, does the Percy Jackson series by Rick Riordan count?

As far as HIstorical Fiction goes, I'd strongly consider the Matthew Shardlake Mysteries. It's a series of mystery novels written by the author C.J. Sansom in which lawyer/detective Matthew Shardlake investigates various criminal activities in 1530-40 England. There's 5 or so books in the series, and I think the first one is called Dissolution, although there's really no need to read them in order.
