Anybody read the sequel light novel series? I just finished the third volume and I think it's dope!

I want to read it, although a friend of mine didn´t like it at all. I heard there are new characters inserted. Is the atmosphere still the same as in Durarara!!?
I only read the Izaya centric light novel and absolutely loved it. Guess I should read SH too, only to get to know what happens in our beloved Ikebukuro meanwhile.
