Hello everyone, has anyone on here read The Power of Myth by Joseph Campbell and Bill Moyers? If so what do you think was the part that stood up to you the most? Do you agree with the idea that myths are still in society? That we still have myths in our modern day society? If so what are they? Do you agree that myths are a form of spiritual guidance?

Myths were/are made up to give reason to the unexplainable, as I'm atheist I think that of religion too, no offense, but if humans don't understand something (say a freak weather event) we would blame it on the end of the world, G-d(s) being unhappy with us, aliens etc. . I don't believe in any of that, science and logic will eventually provide the answer.

Yes, and yes. Spirituality is very subjective, and means different things to different people. I am an atheist myself, and I agree with EJM on everything but his last statement. Science , and logic may never provide an answer. However, I don't think that should dissuade us from trying, and I don't think that filling the gaps with things that can't be validated is correct. It is in fact the highest form of intellectual dishonesty in my book.
