I thought there are many readers here, so we can share the name of books/writers we like and why we like. Also anyone looking for a particular type of book can ask for suggestion.
Here is mine: The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho. I like it because like many anime, it encourages you to follow your dreams. Well it is not fantastic as anime but each time you read you notice new things. BTW it is the book which stayed longest in NY Times Bestsellers list.

The Discworld series by Terry Pratchett. It's a fantasy-comedy series which is just brilliantly insane. Quite alot of them have some kind of adult material, but there's also a few that were written as childrens books (they're still alot of fun whatever age you are though). Although they all take place in the same world they're not all about the same thing, so you can pretty much read them in whatever order you like.

Lastly, my favourite book in the series is Soul Music, which is about rock becoming a big thing in and around the biggest city on the Disc, Ankh-Morpork. It's just filled with references to real rock and pop history and also some movie references.

A good, though slightly strange one to read is "The Particular Sadness of Lemon Cake" by Aimee Bender. It's about a girl who discovers she has the ability to taste people's lives in the food they prepare. Her style of writing is what caught my attention first, as I'd previously read one of her stories called "The Healer" from her short story collection. I'd recommend that as well!

My favourite book of all time is The Murder of Roger Ackroyd by Agatha Christe. It's a murder mystery novel and full of plot twists. Like most of Christie's books, the killer is a huge surprise and if you read it you'll be questing until the the last chapter.
