Anyone enjoy historical fiction? I haven't read the genre since elementary school when I'd read those "Diaries of an American" and American Girl series.

Any book suggestions? I'm not very interested in old western stuff, though.

If you're into historical fantasy, you might want to check out the Gemma Doyle Trilogy, which takes place in the 1800's (I believe). It's about a young woman who is forced to go to a religious manners school in England after years of living in India due to her mother's passing. She and two acquaintances at school discover a door leading into another dimension and acquire witchery powers, meanwhile a boy who followed Gemma back from India tries to get her to understand the conspiracy of what's really going on.

The majority of the story takes place in the real world, and it has a ton of satire about 1800's culture, going so far as to include fashion, menstruation, sexuality, and more. There are obviously three books (trilogy otp). Each book is pretty long, but you'll fly right through them if you enjoy it. Great writing. Amazing characterization. Pretty solid romance. It's a lot of fun to read.

Oh, and though it's labeled YA, let me put it out there that there are some seriously race-y parts. If you can't handle a little gore and rape, you might want to pass it up or be prepared to skip through some scenes.
