honestly this series is one of my favorite sci-fi series ever. anne mccaffrey is one of my favorite writers now that i have read this series. i really enjoyed the elements of fantasy mixed with the sci-fi elements in the storyline.

Very nice series for the first two books. After you get into The White Dragon though, the series took a nosedive.

I can understand a writer wanting to flesh out their world - But it feels a lot like the main story of Pern finished at the end of Quest and everything after it was a massive info dump that consisted of explaining every little aspect of both the world and it's politics/economics.

While that's fine in it's own regard, it left a sour taste in my mouth because I got into the series reading a lot of action and what not in the first two books then I felt very tricked when they ended so abruptly and let the next generation take over.

i can see what you mean, the whole huge focus on jaxom kinda wasnt as good but i continued to read more books in the series and i dont mind the more subtle conflicts since now i am at the point they are going to blow up the red star.
