Vegan and Vegetarian tips? (3)

Hey there! I'm looking to go vegan in the long run, but at the moment I'm trying to go vegetarian. I live in the south, and honestly this place is obesity, sweet tea, and fried chicken city. Pretty much everything is burned in some sort of meaty grease or it came from a cow. It's so unhealthy and kind of gross, and the only vegan or vegetarian friendly store is like, an hour and a half away.
Does anyone have some tips for what I could add to my diet? Like things from food lion and walmart. I know that I can get fruit and veggies and that kind of stuff, but I can't just go through and read all of the ingredients of everything in my local grocery store, that would take a really long time.
Do you guys know of anything that's a pretty general thing to find in a food lion, piggly wiggly, or walmart? Even vegetarian or vegan things in a gas station or dollar store would be helpful to know about.
I know that some things are inclusive to a certain state or region, but it would be nice to know what to be on the lookout for when I go shopping! Thanks!

I'm vegetarian. I reccomend going to Sams Club to get vegetarian food. Tofu is good and I have to check what they're called but we have alot of vegetarian cookbooks at my house. I highly reccomend soy curls for making vegetarian chicken and stuff, and black bean taco's are AMAZING! I'll get back to you later on what cookbooks we have for vegetarian food and stuff. Oh- also, wallmart has some vegetarian food.

I'd say find replacements for meats and dairy, eat a lot of carbohydrates and starch and try to find vegan versions of your food. However vegan food is more expensive than normal food so be ready for that.
