Personally, i think that it isn't but maybe im just a manga purist

Manga are defined as comics originating from Japan. The word 'manga' just means comics in Japanese.

Chinese manga is called manhua and Koreans have manhwa. Manga-like comics are made in the US and other parts of the world too though and they're referred to as OEL or Original English Language manga or 'world manga' or something of the like.

So 'manga' usually only applies to things that are from Japan, but since in the west it isn't seen as just a name but as style it got extended to include comics in that style from outside of Japan as well.
