Variante is an exceptional science fiction manga which revolves around Aiko, a girl with a Chimera arm. Despite being short, it is extremely enjoyable with quality art. It is rather gory, so I would definitely not reccomend it for anyone who has a weak stomach, and there are a few tear-jerking parts. It's number one part must be the plot, though. Despite "chimeras" being over-done in manga, this particular story seemed to utilize the idea in a more individual fashion. Also, the realistic main characters were great additions that made the whole thing really come together.

Here is a short plot synopsis:

"Aiko seemingly had a normal life. She was a good, obedient girl who just wanted a place where she was accepted. Of course, that all changed after she was killed by a strange creature called a chimera.

Three people were announced dead at the scene, but only two were buried - Aiko had come back to life thanks to her arm, which had transformed into part chimera. As she is forced to fight for her place of acceptance in the strange hospital where she awoke, it is obvious that there is no turning back. The manga revolves around her story as well as the stories of those in the doomed organization which ran the hospital."

Wow, this was my first manga I ever read! Short, but beautiful. Although the ending was vague, it's still a favorite!

I loved this manga, I read it last year and it's still in my head, I can't help but add chimairas to my mangas ever since I read it xDD
