Let's try something new.

It seems to be a common theme that people like spreading the word about the Dollars, be it anonymously or upfront, participating in charity deeds or just handing out papers or cards, whatever. But there's an inordinate number of threads that talk about it, and it really is hard to keep track of any number of them at the same time.

So let's try this. If you have any ideas regarding spreading the word about Dollars, let's talk about those ideas in here. We could keep a running index (linking back to posts and such) for ideas that people take particular interest in, as well.

I'll start an index in the second post, with links to 'missions' like these already proposed.

Oh great, another way of spreading the Dollars. Shouldn't we be a bit on the lay low? It IS the Dollars, I think we should become known a bit more subtlely. Like the big banner thing, too much. Something smaller in scale but something that also packs a big punch, ya know?

To be honest, I find it being a great idea. After all the more the better? The more people we have to talk and help with missions, we will have more ideas and we can welcome new members, it's a chance to be known more broadly and since valentines day is coming up it's quite convinient don't you think~

I agree that anything we do in this regard should be small scale, simply because we want to control the flow of newcomers as best we can. We really don't need 50 or so trolls/morons entering at once on any given day, just because someone decided to post a banner in a mall or whatnot.

I have gotten two or three people to join us in my school already. I hope I can get more people to join us soon. I have been posting signs around telling them about us.

Shouldn't the people not be just randomly chosen, because we have connects to them? I think, it's okay, to get some people join us, but there are a lots of people, who surely enter through those sign, because they just curious (a flyer with the logo of the dollars, the link and the password - isn't that mysterious?) and a lot of these people are just doing shit here.
I think, it is enough to let know, that the "Take what you need"-Flyers and other missions are just were do by the "Dollars". The most people who see such a little mark, are not that curious like by the signs, I think.
But peoples who think "Wow, I want to be like that too" are a little more organized.

That's my opinion of that.
Feel free to say, that this and that is wrong and sorry for my terrible grammar and english.

Personally I believe what Kokoro is saying, we should hand out flyers or put up posters with a breif description saying what the Dollars are about! We want to help people out with whatever we can, and if people just log on with the password and the URL they usually just do whatever they want. It'd would be more beneficial if we made posters and such saying who we are and what we want to do. Then atleast we can weed out some of the people who just come on here to spam or disrupt what we're here for.

I agree. We should have people who are here for the exact purpose of the Dollars, people who want to help and uphold what the Dollars is all about. I think people who really want to make a difference not just any random person. That's what I think.

Agreeing and expanding upon what >>26 mentioned, a lot of us in other threads have expressed concerns about random recruitment. Not only could you end up accidentally informing trolls of the site, but you might attract some less-than-responsible folks as well as people who might just spam us with ads.

I hadn't thought about it before Leroy Lopez brought it up, but in addition, the way one extends the invitation can lead to consequences. For instance, inviting strangers via phone message, "Do you want to be part of The Dollars"? YES/NO"
, could be potentially problematic.

Someone not otherwise informed of what The Dollars are might think it to be some gangbang racket. We're called "The Dollars," after all. I'm not suprised they called the cops, if they suspected gang activity.

This is another one of the reasons why so many of us insist that you personally evaluate who you choose to extend the invitation to. :3

I don't think we should put up posters or flyers or anything like that! The website and password is already all over the internet, we shouldn't be throwing it around carelessly like that. We should only give it to people we know and trust.

Well, people have talked about business cards with the logo, URL and password on it, I also thought maybe just printing out sheets of paper with the same thing on them (logo, URL, password) and put them up on things like electrical posts, streetlamps, walls, wherever they might be noticed in the city

I was told to come here. See, there aren't many Dollars in my city and I want to get more because it really could be a better place if there were more Dollars members.
The city is Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada if anyone has any suggestions for me.
I'm currently working on things for my area, but I can't handle a whole city on my own. Any suggestions are welcome.

this pretty much goes against the dollars if yall think about it. this is making us more noticed but what we stand for is that we are supposed to stay secret and keep people oblivious of us. we were made to make the world a better place but through a way to where we wont take credit for what we do. if yall do this then that means yall are goin against what we stand for. so i recommend keeping us a secret and not getting our name out there so we can remain anonymous to our good deeds.

Shadow, it's the same concept if they don't know exactly WHO is doing these things. As long as we do them. They just have to know it's the Dollars. That way, it's still secret. We're still a secret. That's the point of being colourless or transparent.

I kind of came up with an idea. See, I'm putting together a poster with the logo and link, but I've also put together an e-mail address with a pen name the interested ones can contact if they're serious for the password. I can ask if they really want to be in, if they're serious about helping out around the area and if they are, I'll give them the password. I've put the e-mail address on the poster and I'm putting a whole bunch around my school on monday or tuesday before most people show up but after the door open in the morning.

Anyone think this is a bad idea?? Or should I rethink this??

The main problem with the Dollars is that it is so closely related to DRRR!! that people will mistake it as an rp or fansite. Even just googling the thing will give them that idea.
Is there some way we can avoid this problem....?

I like that idea too! I have one of my own. If we know someone or see someone and they do a good thing for somebody else or they are a good person, give them a white card with our emblem and our password baccano written on it.

By posting it on their locker, desk, door, etc.

The thing is to not just say you're part of the Dollars, just using it as a name. That's useless. You need to get involved in a project to show people that you're serious about helping people, then tell them you're from here.

Just to address an issue that cropped up again, going to quote the FAQ:

Q: Aren't the Dollars colorless? Why are people trying to be public about us?
A: "In short - We, As a community, have come to the conclusion that if you want to do a public Dollars event, then you are free to do what you want. We are not a secret society like the Illuminati or Freemasons."

There's no right or wrong to how you go about spreading the word, or not. Some people like to keep their involvement secret, but it won't change the fact that we're not an exclusive club of any sort. It's been over two years - if we wanted it to be secret we would have done that from the start instead of leaving it open with a google-able password.

Sorry if this bursts anyone's ideal of a shadowy organization, but we're really not that. No need for the complexity.

What if we organised a flash mob somewhere? All the dollars in a certain country could get together for a dance or one of those freeze things anything that will make us stand out.

I don't know if someone has already said this but here goes. What if we all donated money to a charity put it into a bulk and gave it to the charity under the name Dollars? So using something like chipin maybe? It would be a good deed, easy for all member to participate without too much time, and get us out there. Just a thought, would love to know what you guys think.

True Erika, but often times a decisive battle plan calls for a larger army. i think we should focus on gaining members before planning a big donation or stunt. its just not practical to face a huge challenge with a small group, especially you and me, Erika.

With the amount of people on this site, and the amount of time we've (and I mean you've, since this is my third post) been around, someone must have commented on our similarity to anonymous. That's what were about. Help from the shadows, nameless heroes, all that other sentimental anime stuff. I think a great way to spread the word about us is by collaborating with anonymous. Not to a huge extent, but they are a very respected group on the internet. Penny for you're thoughts?

We can only have so many unique ideas about how to spread the word, writing on stuff and handing out things have already been said. If you're just going to expand on those things there's no point in making a whole thread for it. We don't need 50 threads on writing on objects - "missions" can mean more than just that, and it's getting kind of overloaded with it.

I find that the best way to recruit new members is just to be on the site. For example, yesterday a guy saw me logging in. He asked about it, I gave him a quick explanation, & he was on for at least 45 minutes after that.

Find Durarara fans and send an anonymous e-mail saying "You've watched Durarara? Would you like to join the Dollars?" Then include a link to the site. Or something like that. The main weakness is that it may be interpreted as spam or sketchy.

What about wearing the symbol? It's pretty easy, and if it's obvious enough people are curious enough to ask. Example - Write it on your hand/arm in block writing. If someone asks, explain and get them to write it on their hand/arm. It's pretty fun too!

We wear a symbol or that defeats the purpose of being translucent, but the buissness cards are a good idea, we just need an actual leader we can give phone numbers to like on the show :)

Email/weblink is better, because you would need a couple of phone numbers (I don't think that people for example from Europe would call someone from USA just to get some info. about Dollars)

I looked into getting metal badges with the Dollars symbol on them made and it can be done for about £1.90 per badge but there's a minimum order of 50 badges. We'd have to organise this properly in order to get some.
Also, I think that if you help with a charity or whatever, anything you pass out should have the Dollars logo in the corner. This would make people curious and they'd do an Internet search, hopefully ending up here.

I think that we should Just walk around with some kind of dollars symbol and if people asks what dollars is as can Just give them an email adress, some one who can explain what dollars is for and hopefuly as can get new members

I think spreading word around isn't bad but the purpose of Dollars isn't to be upfront or showy to the wider community. If people want to join that's fine, at least have watched the anime DRRR or understand its purpose, why Dollars was created in the first place. ^^

I have friends that ive told that im a dollar, in hopes of getting them in, but my friends are a bit odd, and start going off on what dumb things they would do on here if they joined....so i never gave site or password....

Anyone who goes to a school should look at the people who are in their student council. I'm sure the people in those sort of circles would be happy to help out. Just be up front and ask them, or tell them some of the good things that the dollars can do. Sorry, its not such a great idea but I just thought that people like that are the kind of people who we'd want in this kind if group.

We actually have a lot of members if you think about it... The reason it doesn't work as well as it does in the anime is because we are spread out across the globe...

But if you put it like that, it really seems like we don't have many members at all. I doubt there are any near me in Alabama for instance. But you never know. We are colorless after all.

I think that the best way to spread out the word without actually telling them, is getting the "big fish" like celebs to join us dollars, even if some people dont like them, celebs in this world we live in have many followers that will try out anything they say... So if they can join us and in one way tell other people about it maybe we can be bigger as group and as a family! I want to help this world , i want to see people smile all the time, dont you guys?

View the Dollars as anyone and everyone, colorless gang formed by one cause, when i find people who fit the cause i give the password and let them explore, we are near. we are here, we are there, we are everywhere. Hi everybody, I have an idea. This may not seem too original, and in fact was probably already posted before, but I'm doing this anyway. What I'm talking about is recruiting new members into the dollars.
When I say recruiting new members, I don't mean going around and giving your friends or people you like the website and password, that can still be done, but doing something like that goes against the original idea of "anyone and everyone can join". Why don't we try and actually invite anyone and everyone?
This idea is simple, just get a piece of paper, write down the website and password with some information on the dollars, and put it anywhere that somebody can find it. Tucked under desks, break rooms, isles in a store, heck anywhere, really! And if you're really into it, there are card layouts that you can find on the web, and print.
Now I'm not saying to go through the rest of your life cosplaying as Izaya and giving everybody you find an invite. I'm thinking maybe just the week leading up to Halloween. Lets give the dollars a chance to grow into its own thing where we aren't just a group of otaku copying an anime. Who knows, maybe our missions would make more of a difference to members completely new to the idea of the dollars, and maybe in a few days, months or even years you can go walking around in your town, and know that wherever you are, there's a chance that some of the people around you could be members.
It's not a bad idea, and its completely anonymous if you want it to be.

well i read through a good amount of the replies on here since it seemed to be mostly a discussion, and it seems that alot of people said the same thing, that we need to not give out the password on the invitation, or bits of papers/cards that are passed out. best thing seems to be making an email with the dollars name, and attaching it to the invitations that you leave in your area, and if the people want to join the dollars, they can reply to the email with a confirmation, and then you send them the password.
others also stated that you would have to keep outsiders/people who know nothing about the dollars from being scared away from thinking that we are an otaku fansight, by giving some information on the dollars along with the invitation (i had already covered that tidbit in the mission i posted here), or to make them want to join by showing them something that makes the site seem like a great place (im guessing that the usual way to do this is by doing a mission that catches there attention in a good way)

i dont really know if there is anything left to discuss, if we apply most of the suggestions on how to make an invitation/spread word of the dollars mission, we should be able to come up with something that is near perfect, and apply it to all of the missions on this thread

Ok, so I'm copying this from a thread I made under "recruiting".

I searched through the full mission listing, and I didn't see anything covering what I had in mind. As one of the other posters pointed out in his recruitment thread, we're all pretty spread out, so it seems like it would be hard for us to do much of any real world value, besides information gathering. This leads me to believe we should recruit more people. With a bit more numbers, the sky is the limit. We could have flash mob clean up crews, end homelessness in our cities, or more. Hell, if we got enough people we could make our own political party bent on bettering the human condition :P.

The way I see it is this. Everyone on the site who wished to help would recruit around 5 people to the dollars, friends, family, potentially even random people on the street. From there we would look through online connections, and get them to recruit separately. In this way cells can expand sideways, and keep a certain level of ignorance of other cells. That would be mainly for keeping with the whole "clearly colorless" motif.

Alternately, you could do the traditional top down recruitment scheme, which while would give faster growth, would also go against the "colorless" motif.

It is nice to think about spreading but the real question is ''what are we spreading?'' .. a normal site? a durarara forum? a social community?

If this is gonna be popular, serious projects should be started, otherwise it is another social network and aside from durarara fans, not many will be interested or even get the idea of the website.

i think making business cards that have the dollars logo on them and our phrase "Smile, the world isn't as bad as you think" on the front and then on the back it could have a brief description like "The Dollars is an online community that works together and tries to make the world a better place." and then it could have the word baccano in tiny print at the bottom of the card. That way people who are interested will search it and find the website, of course they will have to figure out for themselves that the "baccano" on the card is the password.
this is kind of a way for people to settle in between freely giving out the website and password and people who want to keep it more of a secret.

Hey, I have a suggestion to get more members in our organization. I think we should get people willing to make an anonymous number to text all of their contacts asking "Would you like to join the Dollars?" And if they say yes, text them the web URL and password, just like in the anime, except all of us are doing it, not just Izaya :P Anyway, who's with me?

Probably better to be more selective. Not out of fear for unsavory members, but because realistically people aren't gonna just randomly join a site they got a text or email to. People are hella cautious about spam mail these days.

Unless you're inviting your friends or something, the site should be shown to people only when attached to good deeds or whatever in the missions board. Carpetbombing invites makes it look like spam - advertise to those that would actually show interest.

The propaganda should only be made to people you know are competent.

It's a good idea to spread the word about the Dollars. We do exist, and we could make significant change in the world, if we band together. My problem, though, is that if we become famous enough, then, since anyone can join, website would become flooded with random idiots posting crap and overall giving the Dollars a bad name, causing us to lose credibility anyways. If we do become large, we should have the Dollars associate with good. It's good to get the name out as a legitimate group, but perhaps it may better if we exist from the shadows? Like some elite force for good?

A simple trash drive would be effective because it has ways of getting everywhere and makes an impression on everyone who walks by. You'd have to leave a note saying a Dollars member did it, but if you attach a Dollar bill iy would probably be dealt with, don't you think?

Reminder: the WHOLE point of the dollars is that its not exclusive, there are no permanent members, and THE PASSWORD IN NOT SECRET.

It would be better if we just kept The Dollar business to ourselves (The Dollars),meaning we wont let ppl we dont trust join,people we know will make a difference in the world and not try to stop us from it. This site was made to be an open site. Other wise, most of us wouldnt be here. The password is the same as in the anime. Meaning, (obviously .. painfully obvious ..) that the password is and can be found on google and youtube. So changing it is not an option. This secret society most of the newbs have in mind, doesnt exist. It wont exist. Im sorry but thats how things work. I don't know if anyone's mentioned this yet, but how about giving to charity, or cleaning up around were we live or something, but instead of leaving our names leave a paper or something with the dollars logo, or just say it was the dollars. It gets the group noticed, while showing what the group's about, and keeping the mystery. Then people can either look it up, or have a email attached to the dollars logo were people can ask about it, and get the link and the password.

I really don't have any friends who like to watch anime. So, I can't get them to watch Durarara. This gives me a hard time trying to recruit people to the Dollars. I'm pretty new here so can you guys help me or give any advice.

We could carry a coin (kind of like the military) except it's wouldn't have a rank or anything just the same coin and give it to a few friends with a qr code on the back.

Instead of recruiting openly, get to know new people. Make yourself break out of your usual. And if you meet someone who you think would be a good Dollar, bring them in.

And as for letting people know about us, why not just do what they did in the anime? They talked about the Dollars in the third person, like, "I heard about this group called The Dollars that...". And it spread. It wouldn't be hard to do the same thing. Then we just need to have things to humble-brag about.

I think it is okay to use the Dollars when doing larger missions that aren't the anonymous ones, but you shouldn't be recruiting left and right. Do you think they would make a good dollar, and do they believe in what the dollars are? Or do they just think it is cool to be part of something?

I made some business cards on http://us.moo.com/ before I saw this thread. I just dropped off my first one anonymously and will probably continue to do so around my campus. It was relatively inexpensive and they are pretty good quality with a gloss finish.

If we spread the word about the Dollars and just give out the password, we're going to get a lot of people that shouldn't be here, and it ruins our sense of anonymity a bit. We're no longer shrouded in mystery if everyone can find the site and can log onto it. I think it's best to go about this like in the anime- first make the Dollars noticed. Make the Dollars known as a "gang" that does good things. A friend suggested "non profit organization", but there's too many of those so it wouldn't stand out. Make people know it's not a bad gang, that we're colorless and anonymous, but also make them fear us a little bit. Then choose candidates you think are suitable, see if they really are suitable, then get a new number specifically for Dollars stuff and send them a text asking if they want to join the Dollars. If they say yes, send them the password and site.

Maybe, if we invite people to the dollars that watch DRRR!! they'll know that we should stay colourless while increasing the number of dollars members. That could work, right? As they have watched it, they will know the context of us.

Yes, I agree! I saw an earlier thread relating to this idea as well. And basically we create QR codes that say a quote or something like this; "We are always here to help" - The Dollars or something and if someone scans it, it comes up with that message. I thought it was a good idea and me and my friend have made one and we're putting them up around our home city.
I think it would be cool if more of us could do this to spread around the word about the dollars.

Why don't we make a YouTube channel for the Dollars! YouTube is a wonderful way to get the word out and the people who do the videos would wear something over their faces to keep it anonymous. Or to show their faces because they can be some type of Admins. Each Channel can have one station in Britain, in another in the Phillipians ect... So they can have change in Their area rather than being across the world from each other.

The whole point of the dollars is that we are colorless,invisible.I think that we don't really need advertising and that people who wish to join should join on their own or by personal recommendation,which is really the way we have been gaining members for a while,

a thought that i came up with is that
1) stay anonymous and only bring in people that we think could help that way you don't have to deal with people causing trouble

Flyers have been spread around my school by someone. The consist of the quotes and the Dollars logo. No passwords or points toward the website. The quotes are generally quite brilliant. And it was completely anonymous. They just showed up there one day and no one knows who did it.

I don't know how you all feel about what I'm going to do, but I hope and wish that you'll be okay with it.
I'm going to go around and hand out food and money to homeless people, and also a note saying "The Dollars" or something like that. It may not change a lot, but it changes a lot for them. It's a small act, but can help. I am not only doing this for the dollars, I am doing this because they deserve help and respect. I think it would be cool if more Dollars did the same thing.. It might spread a message, but even so I don't think we will get that much attention, which probably is good.. Because a lot of members want to stay "unnoticed", and even so, it's not about us but the cause. So in my opinion it would be the perfect thing to do. Yes, I'm a lazy otaku like a lot of other people who are in the Dollars.. But I want to be a part of the Dollars to make a CHANGE! I'm planning on doing it a few times every month, but I'm going full out on The Dollar's day, so as I said, would be really fun if more people joined in then.

I don't think we should worry that much about getting famous. The point of the dollars also is that there are no real rules, but people who are in it actually care and joined because they had reason to or not; or that the wanted to be part of a community that cares. I think a good way is to live by example and rep them when you can, the way you guys are suggesting. getting the name out won't do much, but we have a chance to se how the world will want to define us, or not. Will we be painted or not?

Also I 'm not saying that I want to let people come up and wreck threads like this but people who want to give some respect to this should be sent to the BBS rules. Like we shouldn't deny people access, but we should agree on what we want to respect if we want to be a community , or like the "ideal" or 'societal contract' we want to adhere to.

Like many people have said. we should show what the dollars is and not just give the password. instead give people clues of what the dollars are.. for example like making a card and saying dollars on the front and durarara on the back with small letters saying the season and the episode which best describes what the dollars is about and gives people the hint of what the password is at the same time. it would also be great if we all had the same or similar format/ card that way if we see a dollars member around passing cards we know who we are and get to know each other.

Guys, i'm new, and I have many question coming in my mind... First I see there is the problem of saying the password and the link to everybody... The real question is, did we do like in the durarara's anime ? It is not real so we have to think about what could really happens if everybody come here... Flood, trolls... Maybe people who use in a bad way the Dollars... But anyway, it is not the problem for the moment...

The first goal to Dollars is to be colorless, and so everybody could come here, that's the first idea. But is that realy possible... ? I don't think so. But if someone longs to come and going us, he just has to search on google the password...

You also have to remember that no one will probably find this site unless they actually search for the Dollars. Meaning they probably have seen the anime and like their purpose

I think a good way to spread the news would be at anime conventions, where people may have seen or heard of the anime ore the Dollars. A better chance of people joining.

I originally wrote this reply for the other thread on the same topic. I hope it's okay for me to put it here too since it is relevant.

If I might make a suggestion... I first heard about The Dollars by word of mouth from another member. He didn't tell me what it was really about though. He just asked me if I had seen Durarara. I said something along the lines of "Isn't that the anime with the headless biker chick? I think I remember that." Then, he just told me that I should watch it again and pay close attention for a letter at the end of each episode.

Upon watching the show, I was not only provided with the password, but a sort of general idea about what The Dollars should/could be. I think this is how we should reach people. It weeds out the people who just think "Oh, I'm going to visit this site to mess with a bunch of weebs" and leaves only those who have proven that they have a certain level of motivation and intellect.

Not only that, but (perhaps most importantly) it shows them what we aspire to be. I mean, we all came here hoping that The Dollars would be like in the anime right? I know I did and I see other people posting about how they'd like it to be that way...

The Dollars' signature is quite a good idea, but the gift cards.. I don't know..
Have you considered how many trees have been cut for a simple card that we all throw away hours later, and the fact that your neighbourhood isn't full of people in need of help, or humanitarian?
You should do it but with a deep philantropic message writen in the card, signed -The Dollars, so they could understand that it's not a simple Christmas card, but a card given on a special event where those who can afford should give to the needy; and that's the Dollars' mission: make this world a better place

I've been thinking of a "#" for the Dollars and it's hard to think of one you can type on a keyboard. Why don't we ask any artist in the community to come up with a symbol or emblem. We could associate the symbol with us whenever we do good deeds or get involved with a charity.

I've done something like that before which was sending handmade christmas cards to anons. But i think most of them just throw it away? Idk.

I've posted it before, but there is something called the "dollar mission" where you drop dollars with a message on it (signed "the dollars"), be it on a bus, in class, a cab, basically anywhere. Goal, is to brighten someones day with the message and dollar, as well as spread our name. This is hard for us Canadians, so this is my solution: Email me at Deganx12@gmail.com for the pdf printable version.

I have a recruitment plan that comes in two forms.

Firstly, I wanted to talk to my friends about the dollars and get them interested and if they want to join I would tell them to email the dollars gmail I made with the reason they want to join (even if it's something like it sounds cool because to be honest I think most of us joined for less than that). Then I would email them back with something like:

"Welcome to the dollars. We are transparent, invisible, everywhere. The dollars don't care about your looks tastes or religion. There are no rules and there is no hierarchy.

The second plan is almost the same but instead of my friends I would leave posters around with the dollars sign and web address, the email and a small description about the dollars being a colorless organisation and if they want to join to send an email saying why.

Idk it was just an idea because then we also know what kind of people are joining but we don't only limit it to the save the world types because lets face it, most of us probably weren't to begin with so I think it's wrong to only let those types of people in.

The idea was that we would get new blood, people would figure out what we stand for and (via the email process) I could deny access to the immediately obvious trolls or the people who think we are a violent gang of people and want to join to cause havoc.

I know its not a perfect system but it was a close to one as I could come up with from bits and pieces of other ideas and without being a super computer genius ^_^".

I saw this thread awhile back that had these printable, "invitations," if you may. It showed the Dollars logo with a saying I can't really remember. It also showed the URL and the password. So if someone finds that old thread, perhaps you could bump it and we could use that as a way. Print a few of those, like 3 or 5 and just place that somewhere like someone's pocket or backpack without being seen.

The only problem with that is that having a link that people can just visit is more likely to peak peoples interests than an email address, especially since they won't know what Dollars actually is.

I mean if we want people to join the site, I personally think that linking to the login page and providing the password would be the best idea, because it seems like a waste to not make use of the interesting design, but I understand that people might post things without reading the rules which would cause problems for the people on the site.

I've noticed some people on this website acting as if this is an exclusive/elite group solely because of the passworded lock-screen, and it's been bugging me. The Dollars is for everyone and anyone, and that's how it should stay.

While we're at it I'd like to complain about Vistaprint, I created an account simply to test the business card design to see if it would work or not, and there was no way to manually deactivate my account! Now I'm having to email their customer service account to get them to delete my account :/

If anyone plans on ordering business cards, DO NOT make the via vistaprint, they're pretty shady.

I would say the dollars are everyone and anyone though for the purpose of doing good. Though the general anonymity should be kept I say unless you have a smaller group of yourselves that you want to form I guess.

That password isn't a log, it's just an introduction page, which means, with the right url you can enter the page without any problem. Try write in google 'Dollars BBS' and then, instead of clicking on dollars, click in missions or something like it.

I've been considering things that people have said and I'm thinking that we could forgo the questioning part of the email because of the whole "anyone can join the dollars" thing. I've been seeing quite a few people talking about promoting the Dollars,
rather than making a new thread just look at this first

I think The Dollars should be promoted along with the good deeds. Like when you spread something of value in the web, you should always add -The Dollars or simply -D in the end. The same when sharing your own good deed on the net...Like a pic of you donatingt. Guess that would catch people's attention.

I agree that we shouldn't just broadcast this, it would kind of defeat the purpose of us being transparent. I like the business card idea, we could make cards and discreetly slip them into trustworthy people's (that we know won't be idiots/trolls) hands or give them to them somehow where we wouldn't be easily noticed. Also, the forementioned idea of writing the password in a code or riddle easily solved by someone who puts the time into it.

You have a very good point about handing out cards and such, but an idea I thought of was we can send emails with the link and or password for the site to people we know.

You're right, I should've mentioned that. We should be mindful of who we invite, and not just blindly email people.

i think we should just let people stumble across the site. We don't need to spread the word. We should just do good deeds for the sake of doing them. We have gain no benefit from being Dollars, aside from threads. People should choose to join the Dollars without ever being swayed one way or the other.

Oberon, you also have a good point. Being a Dollar doesn't really have any weight, it's just like a title, in a way. It's more like something to loosely tie up a group of people with similar ideals. You're right, we should just do kind things for the sake of doing kind things. Us benefiting is not our intent as Dollars.

I think we should just do good things for people, for instance, you see someone that can't pay for their meal, you buy their meal instead, and afterwords you tell them about the dollars. You don't have to buy a meal tho just do anything that people would smile upon.

The second idea i had was that we all create Twitter accounts and have our names as our screen names, it's be something like this - MrWhite_dollars and then we'd just branch out from there. Honestly tho i like my first idea better. tell me what you think!

Do something cryptic, like leave some QR codes lying around that link to the front page. Imagine if you find some note on the floor that leads to a passworded site, and then manage to figure your way in. That automatically ups the cool factor to like x10.

I'd go for something simpler. Relating back to what earlier members of the thread were saying, maybe leave this taped somewhere random, and have others find everything else out for themselves. Personally, if I found a mysterious code and followed it to a site as shady as this one, I'd feel much more involved than if I was pointed here by a poster all of the information written on it.

With Pokemon Go gaining popularity, I wanted to post some flyers at gyms and pokestops.

take over gyms with pokemon named Dollars, then we gain turf and influence, pokemon go is basically a turf war already, so I say it's time to take some Territory. and for this reason I believe we should all join the same team, I recommend Valor as they've been getting a bad rep lately

I completely agree with letting our name be known but I don't like the fact that this site is so easy to enter, 10 secs of google search and boom! you know the password. The idea of handing out an email address that will be accessed by people who want to join and will be evaluated is good but instead of being tested wouldn't most people just skip and get the password online? This group is very easy to break apart, only with a few bad people joining.
Also, having an important person wave our name around is a good idea to gain fame, but then again, the people who would join the site for such reasons would only laze around and chat about anime.
The only perfect two solutions would either be changing the password. (which is impossible as no one knows who made this site) or creating a new site altogether. (maybe with a new name, as the current name, Dollars, might make people believe it's just a durarara joke)
Okay, there may be more solutions but none of them crossed my mind

@bakasuraimu: Why wouldnt the Dollars be something serious? Yes, even in the show its a gang totally unlike the others by being open to everyone, having no rules, tending to avoid conflict if possible and just being a large collective. Yet, just their existence was a serious factor to consider, nevermind them taking coordinated action.
In the real world I see no difference. Obviously there are no gang wars or alike here, not in the shape of that anime anyway, and being spread over the entire globe would make the matter impractical for the Dollars anyway. But still. We exist. And we can do good. Lots of it. And maybe get a few more people on board, maybe even geographically close.

Here is something we think might work. Humans are naturally curious. But most don't want to put in too much effort into something, like a long puzzle, to find it. But a scanner code might be taken down. So, why not play a little game? We make ourselves known, but not on a majorly public level. We are Dollars after all. But what if we do this? Make a small card with the website name and a password on it, like a phone number card. Then, we go about our normal lives, but sometimes, we drop a card on the ground. Or we mention the name "Dollars' in conversation, and if they ask us what we are, we give them the card and walk away.

Use graffiti as a way to spread the message, but we would have to be careful not to get caught since it is illegal to do do street art.

I have an idea. If you know how to send text messages to your friends and family anonymously, this can work. You send them a link to this website with the password and ask them to join the Dollars. Also, have them pass on the message. See how many people it reaches. I haven't tried this yet but I think it's a good idea. If you have the means of anonymously texting the people you know.

The issue is that we aren't a secret society, and we want the public to know of us, but at the same time a part of our image is the idea of exclusiveness to just members. we value both publicity and secrecy, and we need to find a method that includes both aspects. instead of something like wearing dollars t-shirts or directly handing out flyers to citizens, try to convey an interesting message or an anonymous good deed tied to the website or the organization. and we do have a symbol, the website logo. aside from that, we are a sovereign group, led by the members themselves.

Personally I quite like the idea of both the dollars pockets and the QR code. And having people interested do a few small activities before being given the password and website is a great idea. (we also can't stop people from just googling us and our password, which is fine. it's how I found the site)

ps try not to deface money, if anything print obviously fake money and draw on that

I think all of these ideas are great, we should do an anonymous survey just to get a good idea where everybody is, then create sub groups from there.

Then we can work out how to increase our numbers and do good deeds.

Why not do it like the anime? We keep in touch with current trends or news, and we spread rumors online that it is the doings of the Dollars. Of course, as a joke, but people might fall for it. This is just to get out name out there. Nothing esle.

By the way, we should try to help others as much as possible and name it that it is done by the Dollars. That way, we spread the word about ourselves being good and helpful which will bring in a chance for others to join us.

I have an idea. It is better to word yourself as Dollars. If you wear a bracelet, just hang a tiny paper written on it "I am a Dollars"

But as an idea, for some of the slightly more graffiti filled cities or the messy cities, why not do a clean up? You could clean up walls of graffiti, clean up an area of the city, volunteer to help people around the place. That kind of thing. And whenever you have finished, just leave a small note on the wall, or a small poster or something with

The world isn't as bad as you think."
Written on it? That way, you would be spreading the dollars around, and helping people at the same time?

Another idea is, a fundraiser. You could hold a fundraiser for a charity, and have a bunch of Dollars members all come together to organise it, run it and participate in it. It would get around, and if you made it a yearly thing as well, then more and more people would start to know about it. Help people, share the website, and enjoy watching the Dollars expand.

I like the idea of giving out/placing dollar pockets around towns and stuff. But i think it'd be super awesome if people who were interested in it started placing them in geocaches https://www.geocaching.com

Well there was a thing a long time ago. Someone had a flyer of the dollars logo on it and right bellow said " Take what you need" and there would be qualities like honesty, love, tolerance, patience. I used to leave them around my neighborhood and people took the tabs of them, I would explain it better if I had the picture.

Here it is, a mission would be to post these up where people pass by often, try not to get caught.

Hello everyone, I have a little idea for this situation, I hope you guys like it.

So my idea is similar to some of you, which is doing good deeds, but after we do the good deeds, we can leave this card behind. It has our logo on it, and the password concealed as a motivational sentence. If they could figure out that the bold letters are the password, then they're in. I also left the website address there too.

By reading this thread, I see many people has given up or saying the websites dead over the years... But tbh no, its not dead its just dying but doing okay. And thats why i want this webiste and the comunity to still be alive.. Some people say this organisation was only created to help people..yeah its true But actually it was created so it could bring people together.I got to meet a lot of people from all around the world who have the same interest as me in just one day. This website has a "charm" unlike any other. Even the anime shows that doing good deeds is like a "side activity ".I think the real purpose of the DOLLARS is to make everyone know that the world isnt a bad place as you think.why? Then send secret invitations by private messages to people you trust and / or people who are fans of the anime Durarara. This would be to avoid inviting people with bad intentions as much as possible.
But don't give password.
They will have to find it by themselves, it could be exciting for them and if it's not, it would mean that those people wouldn't be as interested by Dollars.

Ps: I think we'd need a jpg image "Secret invitation Dollars" and a definite message that all dollars would send with the image of the secret invitation.
