You could try Boogiepop and others. It has sort of the same surreal atmosphere, and the way it handles different character plot lines is similar to durarara.

Could try Banana Fish? It has a similar large cast of characters who are all connected and a focus on gang conflict, and I found it to be exciting in the same way DRRR was. Deals with a lot of messed-up stuff, but I think deals with it very well!

But also, Durarara is my favorite anime, and one of the reasons for that is how
interconnected the characters are, so the series seems to get much more rewarding the deeper you go. For that reason, you might try Mawaru Penguindrum. It’s a lot more abstract than Drrr is, but, though frustrating, it has one of the best written cast of characters I’ve ever seen.
