Gintama's anime has finished awhile ago. The manga is also now approaching its final arc. (I'm hoping after the manga ends the anime will return.) Many things have happened...deaths, wars...
Just saying, if anyone still thinks Gintama is not worth watching because it's pure comedy, then you're missing out on one of the most epic anime of all times.
I don't care what percentage people give Gintama of how much is comedy or how much is serious, there are different viewpoints. I just know that while Gintama gives you a lot of laughs, it has the most intense fights, deep stories, life lessons, and dark plots of all times.
Plus, Gintoki is probably my favorite protagonist of a shounen manga. His past is one of the most tragic among shounen protagonists, which shape his mature and experienced character, although it's easily deceived by his goofiness.
Gintama is awesome! I seriously love Gintama. I'm sad that the series will be ending soon, but I'm sure the author will give a beautiful final touch to the series. It is undoubtedly true that this series need patience. After all, there ARE a tons of comedy that takes up more episodes. However, all the serious arcs make up for it. It's hard to imagine how serious and intense the plot gets through each serious arcs, and the revealing of the dark truths behind this series.
Gintama is really epic, it makes you laugh the loudest yet cry the hardest! I can't believe people actually die in it too. It got that intense. Sorachi has a way to make you feel with each character and it's just hard to hate on anyone. It also contains one of my favorite quotes and life lessons and really inspiring sometimes. ;-;
Please watch Gintama. It has two complete sides--the funny and the dark one. It's worth it. Just some additional fun facts, Gintama win first place among Japanese fans for best action/fights, and also won first place in Tokyo Animation Award in Japan 2015.
Gintama will forever be my number one anime. :)
(Note that everyone can have their own opinion and ranking. Though I don't want to start hearing comments like "xxx is better!" and start comparing and competing because it's not like you'll actually get the other's mind to change anyway. For me, Gintama is top favorite number one and let's keep it at that.)
