Translating as "Sound of the Sky," So Ra No Wo To is an underrated anime that, although it appears to be just another moe bait of cute girls doing cute things with a slight military twist, it is far more than that. The setting is deeply complex, and it requires numerous watches and a lot of thinking to fully understand it. The five Fortress Maidens of the Clocktower Fortress of Seize each have their own fascinating backstory and characterization, the animation is extremely fluid, and it is scenery porn incarnate, from the free hills to even the desolate No Man's Land. A common saying among its scattered fanbase is "the plot is not the plot," meaning there is a lot happening just below the surface, should you take the time to look. It's available almost in its entirety on Crunchyroll, though they're missing episode 7.5, "The Fortress at War." (The events therein are a lot more lighthearted than the title would have you believe. Trust me.)
