Anime that started as an anime (24)

1 Name: Orion : 2015-01-23 13:33 ID:f/4IU7D5 [Del]

Recently I've become quite annoyed that when waiting for new series of anime to come out (like Attack On Titan), I also have to wait for the manga to come out first.
One thing lead to another and so I'm now on a search for anime that have started as an anime. So if it started as a movie, light novel, graphic novel, manga, ordinary novel or anything else like that, I don't want to hear it. I know a lot of you are anime fans, so I look forward to hearing your suggestions. Please just try and list as many as you can.

Thanks!^-^

I think "original anime" is what people call them. here's a list on Wikipedia and here's a MAL thread about it.

Not all anime are adapted from ongoing source material though. You should just check up on it before watching it if you want t avoid things with unsatisfying endings. Monster, Death Note, Mushishi, FMA Brotherhood, Sakamichi no Apollon are all examples of this.

*examples of complete adaptations I mean.

Zankyou no Terror and Free! are original animes but those are the only ones I know off the top of my head.

I think Aldnoah.zero it's another

Darker than black?

Wow! I wasn't expecting a wiki post about it! But that is pretty definitive. And the MAL forum has quite a bias to Inferno Cop haha! But thank you everyone for getting back to me.
Aldnoah.zero I have added to my to-watch list so I'll definitely watch that.
And yeah Darker than Black is one. It's funny thought because the manga is an adaptation of the anime :D

The wiki post also slates Black Rock Shooter as being an original, which story wise - it is is, but the concept didn't start out as an anime. It's pretty cool to be honest :)

>>7 Yeah that thread isn't very comprehensive or helpful after all. I would have expected Cowboy Bebop or Samurai Champloo to be mentioned a lot more. Especially Bebop, it's super well known.

And most of them end up having manga adaptations lol. They're rarely any good though.

That's the thing. The original format is usually the best format to enjoy it. Even a fantastic and successful anime like Attack on Titan was still better in manga form. So it makes sense that the manga adaptations of anime wouldn't be as good.
That's one of the reasons I suppose that I'm interested in watching more originals.

>>6 Pretty sure Darker than Black started out as a light novel.

>>4 Free! has a light novel called "High Speed!".

There's Kill La Kill or Neon Genesis Evangelion, which started out as animes.

>>11 Source? I can't find anything about a light novel at all, not to mention one that came before the anime.

>>12 Published after the show started.

>>13 Hmmm. I thought I'd read something about it being a light novel a while ago. Guess I probably didn't.

Sorry, disregard that.

I believe Star Driver started out as an anime, though afterwards they released a manga.

Bebop actually had a manga come out about half a year before the anime debuted. Or so Wikipedia tells me anyway.

>>19 Of fucking course. I am actually mad at myself for not thinking of it first. Goddamnit.

21 Name: bang✫bang : 2015-01-26 08:04 ID:lvjHUcRw [Del]

>>17 I don't know how that works time-wise but it's still considered an adaptation of the anime: "The manga series written by Cain Kuga (久雅カイン?) based on the anime series Cowboy Bebop. It is an alternative telling of the story featured in the anime TV series."

It's not the same story anyway. And the original concept for Bebop belongs to the production team at Sunrise, not to any individual mangaka.

I've seen scattered episodes here and there and while a great show in its own right, I think it's a little overrated. It's been a while though, and I never did watch it all the way through, so my opinion in that regard is kind of irrelevant.
