Ryūgamine Mikado is a boy who longs for the exciting life of the big city. At the invitation of his childhood friend Masaomi, he transfers to a school in Ikebukuro. Masaomi has warned him about people he doesn't want to cross in the city: a champion fighter, an informant, and a mysterious gang called "Dollars." Nervous from Masaomi's stories, Mikado witnesses an urban legend on his first day in the city, the Headless Rider astride a black motorcycle.

From then on, the existence of supernatural cases and a gang called the Yellow Scarves will rise to the surface, and Ikebukuro will pushed to the breaking point.

Ah yes the show this website was inspired from! Durarara!! is an anime adaptation of the novel by the same name by Ryohgo Narita (also author of Baccano!). Its first season was 24 episodes long and first aired in 2010.

Its second season, Durarara!!x2, will be split into three cours. The first one titled "Shou" is scheduled for January 2015, the second one "Ten" is scheduled for July 2015 and the third "Ketsu" for January 2015 (see the kishoutenketsu narrative structure).

Hey guys do you know from which arc exactly the show is going to start? A couple of users told me in the chatrooms the starting point is going to be Akane arc.
However, I've seen in the PV scenes which relate to the Hollywood arc... will it be included then?
I hope so because sooo many important characters are introduced in that arc ( n . n )

Well, this season, for some reason, I was most excited for more Durarara. I don't know why, as there are some pretty good shows this season, but that's beside the point. I'm really excited to see what comes out of this.... "threeson...." I am so sorry for that. Anyway, this season seems like it has some good potential, after watching the first episode. Although, it pisses me off that they're splitting it into three parts, I'm really excited.

I binge watched the first season today and I just watched the first episode of x2. :D I'm so excited for the next episode.

Man it feels really nostalgic, watching the first episode of season 2! I'm happy that they're keeping the same OP and ED sequence format. Is there is anyone else who see that Baccano cameo? :)

The first episode is good and made me want to read the light novels. Compared to the first season, the debut episode is lighter and there are a lot of funny scenes and lines (not to mention, more reference on other animes). It's good to see Ikebukuro in [ephemeral] peace and to see most, if not all the characters do normal, everyday stuff-- including the first season's resident douchebag. I find it weird to see Izaya on stand by in his office and it's alarming to hear that he's bored. On second though, disaster always happens when he's having fun as well *laughs*. Also, is it just me or does Izaya look a little different than before (like.. A little less crazy) and Shizuo looks hotter-- I mean his hair grew a little longer too. It's also a fresh start to not see him destroy public property although I heard him scream in one of the scenes but i admit that I love it when he snaps. Anyway, the episode's not boring and the introduction of new characters adds spice to it. The OP and ED are okay too though I still prefer the last season's songs. The only disappointment for me, probably, is the fact that there's one guy who haven't made any progress with the girl he likes even though six months have passed but it's not that bad. It's better than seeing them all lovey-dovey all of a sudden. Overall, I congratulate everyone (producer, staff, animators, voice actors and everyone who took part and made this possible) for the good start and I'm expecting a lot more for the next episodes (i.e. more action, more plot twists and more reason to hate Izaya because I'm starting to fall in love with how cunning he is). I hope they stay faithful to the original story and... Just don't mess this up. The fans waited for this for four years so I hope this'll be worth the long wait and I'm looking forward to the next episodes.

This new season is off to an awesome start! I like the improved animation and artwork. There are a lot more characters to keep track of now... It's gonna take me a while to learn all their names :/

The opening is really great, and the animation and art is excellent especially~ But it'll take a while to get used to the plots and such if you haven't caught up with the first season. :|

I watched the first episode of the second season and they were referencing some light novels like Sword Art Online and Mahouka Koukou no Rettousei and I was just wondering if that was okay. The only difference I've really seen with the animation style is the hair is shinier xD But that's really it...it's really similar to the original season animation-wise. Just finished watching the first episode of season 2 dubbed on hulu and it was awesome to be able to see a new episode after all this time

The new episode was fantastic! (Ep 10) Which made me want more so badly I had to go rewatch the entire previous season (then read the light novels again). Which made me want to put Mikado's poster on my wall, so I made it, the obsession is real everyone.

So I'm not the only one that noticed that the "Izaya" that Akane met looks like Shizuo's brother right?
And the yakuza guy implied Ruri did the murders Shizuo got framed for.

Well in the Novel as as I know the series basically has two main antagonists the person known as "yadogiri jinnai" and our lovely one and only Trollzaya Orihara. this two as far as I know will be competing who's the bigger douchebag. aoba got some promise as well.

Then ryugamine stabbing aoba with a pen, (yay!) I was like oh dayum, we get to see a dark side yaaaaayyyy. I want aoba to feel the shizzzz!

i also like the fact that shizuo is a lot more calm.

Another thing i went yay at was when the 2 assassins get taken out by one of the gangs. Finally the 'affirmative' girl is ouuut!

Is "ketsu" as "ass" in Japanese? Must've have misread the kanji...lol xD

I think I heard the terms for the DRRR!!x2 cours came from the names for acts in the traditional Japanese four act story structure. Shou, Ten, and Ketsu, being the names for the second, third, and fourth acts respectively. Maybe the term for 'ass' in Japanese has a similar etymology to something like 'end' or 'conclusion'.

I can't believe Shizuo. Thumbs up for that last scene.

I haven't really been feeling this season for the past few weeks. Idk if it was the story itself or the anime's rather lackluster animation/directing/whatever that didn't grip me. Anyway I'll definitely read the novels before next season, so I can stop being spoiled about everything and be the person who knows what's gonna happen and judges the anime on how it adapts it instead.

I can't believe it, Shizuo quitting the dollars, Izaya got stabbed, and Mikado being the leader of blue squares, there are many cliffhangers in this show, so I can't wait for july ^^

Walked around Ikebukuro tonight and took some pictures :) a lot of DRRRx2 advertisment, and there is going to be an exhibition at the beginning of May. Also theres a magazine pointing out at a map which locations were used for the anime, so I took a picture of the map and had a look at some of the "original" places :)

I can't shake the feeling that Max Sandshelt (Kazukas boss) is Isaac from Baccano. And it's not only because they have the same VA, they seem to be the same character. There's also Isaacs and Miriams Cameo in season 1. It seems so obvious, that I'm starting to think that is it actually a red herring. What do you guys think?

The best anime ever

I love DRRR I finished the first season in like 3 days

Mikado has always had this dark side, in the light novels is heavily hinted at, though in the first season of Durarara it doesn't seem like that.
Also, Aoba, Izaya and all his stress due to his ideals of the just Dollars gang, Kida, Anri and his desire to catch up to the city's events is going to drive him to somewhat of a corner.

This anime was so AWESOME i watched the first season in just one day

The next episode (or episodes, it depends if they decide to stretch it) will adapt Volume 9. Also, keep in mind the last season (Durararax2 Ketsu) will air in January 2016 so there's still a long way to go.

After the 13 volumes you have a sequel series called Durarara!! SH with a new set of characters introduced apart from the original cast. I think there are up to 4 volumes now. By the way, SH doesn't stand for Shizuo Heiwajima (unless Narita is trolling as always).
Narita has recently published a separate novel called "A sunset with Orihara Izaya". There are no translations of it yet.

I'm really liking the second season. The new art style irked me for a while, but that was just a matter of getting used to it. As for binge vs. week-by-week watching, I'm personally enjoying the week-by-week suspense.

But I can definitely see the sense in saving them up too, especially considering the unique- almost anecdotal -pacing of this show (as in the first season). When watched all at once, it might seem like a more cohesive narrative.

You know, it really amazes me at how some anime are sooo good, you

Watching the show showed me just how interesting our world is and the people in it and that's the pretty amazing part about the show is all the different kind of people you see and the dollars all make the shoe great look at us were part of the dollars too it's pretty amazing how 1 show as brought us all here

It's so weird and sometimes feels incoherent but something about it really strikes a chord in me. I wish we could make skins for Skype so that I could have it look like the chatroom.

I'm kinda disappointed with the last episode's ending. For some reason I kinda hoped that either Shizuo or Izaya would die or they would both make up and start over (I know it probably wouldn't happen ever, but I personally thought it would provide a better ending) I also kind of felt like nothing really changed after everything that happened. However, on a more positive note, I like that Mikado, Masaomi, and Anri were able to become friends again. Just my two cents here.

I finally sat down and spent all of my afternoon watching the entire Ketsu season. Ending was satisfying enough for me though it was kinda predictable I think. Now that I'm done watching, I don't even know what to binge on next...

This ending wasn't really a conclusion, was it?
Sure, the high schoolers are back together, but the Dollars, Blue Squares and Yellow Scarves are still a thing, Izaya and Shizuo are both alive and well, Yodogiri is... waiting for love? and Nasujima, well, he ended up as a slave to the Saika Yandere. Speaking of that sword, that's still an unresolved issue. Same goes for Celty's head which is now in Chicago, but I guess we don't care about that anymore.
What really annoys me is that, if you were to read the novels, it's practically the same ending and starts over with different protagonists. I haven't read them though, so correct me if I am wrong.

So near the end of the final episode in the chat room, Mairu (or kururi) said something about the characters returning. Do you think they'll make episodes for Durarara!! SH? or will they just end it? I'm fine if they end it with Ketsu but SH would be interesting

i'm disappointed. I was expecting something much more interesting to happen with Celty when she got her head, mainly because Izaya made it seem like that. Izaya's motives, which I thought was to get Celty's head into a big enough conflict for it to wake up or something like that, constantly changed and we didn't even get the satisfaction of him dying in the end!!

Mikado's motives didn't even really make that much sense either. I understand that he got into the underworld because he was getting bored with his average life, but half of his decisions that he made in Drrr 2 didn't have any logic behind them! Especially when he tries to shoot Masaomi on the roof. Like wtf? What's the point of trying to make the dollars and ikebukuro safe for him and Anri if he ends up killing him in the end??!?!

Also the fact that Anri uses her saika powers to control people once and then never bothers with it again bugs me to know end. I feel like she could easily become one of the most powerful/useful characters on the show if she would just do something every once in a while. ( I understand that she has some moral issues with infecting other people, but Mikado and Masaomi break their morals pretty significantly and multiple times throughout the show, and so I feel like it wouldn't be crazy for her to do so too.

Also the fact that Mikado's or Masaomi's parents never try to talk to him or make contact is kinda upsetting. Like it doesn't have to be a major part of it, but the fact that they never do ever is hard to believe.

2)He went batshit crazy. So he thought that killing his friend or killing himself would solve everything. Kinda makes sense, seeing how killing someone would lead to the gang dispersing like it never existed (Which is his motive).

3) When did Masaomi break his morals? Also, this is one of the good points of the show, as every character ain't the same as everyone. They don't take the goddamned short-cut in life and make themselves monsters. Humanity is a thing which some people want to keep.

4) Well, both of them are living alone in the city, and if their parents do contact them, pretty sure they're just going to say something like "All's good in the world"

If this is based off >>616 that is the general plot of Snake Hands, BUT, Aniplex, the official website and twitter, MAL, and 4NN have said nothing remotely close to 'there is a season 3'. I don't speak the weeb speak but through the power of translate I don't think Narita, Shuka, or Dengekibunko have said anything in the past year along the lines of 'there is something new for durarara' outside of the books and OST. On top of all that the wiki has a board for this (http://durarara.wikia.com/wiki/Thread:9438) that says its coming in April. this could mean one of three things. 1 It's not airing at the start of the season in march, which is bullshit. 2 It's an ONA, OVA, movie, special, this is still bullshit but less so. 3 season 3 is bullshit, this is very likely. What do Karisawa, Yumasaki and Togusa do for life? Because like, everytime we see them, they're on their van, or for Karisawa and Yumasaki at a manga or cosplay shop. Like, they don't work like Kadota, or go to school or university??
Maybe I'm just overthinking, this is just fiction so I shouldn't think too hard about how they afford to pay for all their mangas and costumes, but if someone knows please tell me🙏

This is my favourite anime of all time, it accompanied me during my teen years and I'm just in love with the characters! It also allowed me to make friends all around because other people, like me, loved it. If there's going to be a Drrr!!x3 I'll be the first one to watch it, although the way they animated Drrr!!x2 wasn't ad good as the first season, which also stuck to the novel religiously.

I'm almost done the last episode of Durararax2 ketsu!!

Got into DRRR around 2009-2010, and it has never really left my mind. It's just so much fun, the characters and happenings and how they all intertwined... You feel like you're hanging out with them as well. I would rewatch a couple episodes from time to time, but only this year am I rewatching it from the very beginning. It still feels as fresh and fun as it was after all these years.

That's actually why I'm here. I've been lurking here back then but hadn't returned for years. I'm glad to see it's still up and active.

I've been doing a rewatch/reread of Durarara recently. I've been reading the books and watching the anime at the same time so I can directly compare them. That was a mistake. I'm now noticing even the smallest of changes and it's making me really annoyed at the anime. I still like the anime, but there were some really unnecessary and baffling changes. To anyone here who hasn't yet, I highly recommend y'all read the books.

mhmm. I have as well Shinigami. But, when I said it was underrated !C8Hypela/M!!/fN+hj5w, I used the wrong word. To some people it is unknown. I have asked countless times wether the my friends have heard it, and the response always remains the same. ẅhat is ¨durarara¨. Its exhausting.

To tell you the truth, I never properly finished X2 and the reason for that is because I was an extremely depressed highschooler around the time the second cour (Ten) aired. It got to the point where I couldn't finish the rest of the series and I felt like I couldn't go back to a time where I could enjoy things.

Fast forward to now, I still don't know why I couldn't finish it, but I've seen people say it dragged itself out for too long on places like /a/ for instance. I think I might just read the LN since that otaku era of my life seems to have already ended. I wish I didn't forget about DRRR, I really do miss it but I don't think it's a love that can be rekindled so easily.

I sorta agree, I was a depressed middle schooler when I first finished the first season, and then watched half of the second season. The austerity and strangely-wonderful story that is unique and has never been done before. I think it can be dragged out with enough force. And I also think because human beings are so nostalgic, we can bring that feeling back out and relieve past moments

I've been rewatching a bunch of anime with characters voiced by Kamiya and I've just started my Durarara rewatch, right after finishing my Natsume Yuujincho rewatch. I need to get used to Namie, Izaya and Seiji now because I keep hearing an out-of-character Reiko, Natsume and Tanuma. Plus they even look a bit similar because the animation studio is the same lol
