Season 1:
With dreams of becoming a composer and someday writing a song for her favorite idol, Haruka Nanami enters the Saotome Academy, a prestigious performing arts school. If successful there, she'll be able to join the Shining Agency after graduation. However, it won't be so easy when Haruka is already surrounded by potential idols and composers. On top of that, her homeroom teacher is a current idol, the headmaster was a record-breaking singer, and the academy itself is a chaotic place where anything can happen. In the end at graduation, two students are to be paired up by the students' choice, one taking the idol role and the other the composer role. After being paired up, the "pair" will sing a song that was both composed, written and sung by the pair. If successful, the pair will join and take the spot as the new Shining Agency debut artists. To make things more difficult, romance is prohibited in the school! Which prince of song will be paired up with Haruka? Uta no Prince-sama is promoted as "an exciting, coming-of-age romantic comedy".
Season 2:
Entering her Master's course, Nanami Haruka is facing an even more difficult time. And she isn't the only one. The main six members of Starish are assigned new seniors to watch over them! But the seniors aren't having the best attitudes about it.

I actually haven't caught up with the second season yet. UtaPri has great art, animation, and music, but the story and characters are just static and shitty. Ah, well. It's still fun to watch if you're into shoujo or j-pop.

Caught up with season two. There were like... two episodes that had romantic development out of the entire 13 episode season. If you're going to abandon the details of the plot to *this* extent for music and center the entire thing around "love" and "happiness", at least give it some happy loving. A litle fanservice never killed a shoujo.

It honestly feels like a little kid's anime. I wouldn't be surprised if the actual demographic was little girls ages 5 through 10. Don't waste j-pop on that .-.

I'm still not caught up with the second season, because other shows piled up, but so..many..SHIPS
