Wolf Children is a 2012 full-length (117 minute) anime film by Mamoru Hosoda, whose previous works include Summer Wars, The Girl Who Leapt Through Time, and Digimon The Movie.

...interested yet?

The story starts with a young woman named Hana attending university. She meets a man who isn't taking notes with a textbook and she then proceeds to follow him outside and question why. When the man reveals he isn't actually a student there, she offers to help him learn, and the two become friends.

Oh, and the man's a wolf.

So they start living together and eventually procreate, and Hana takes to solely raising their two kids (for reasons I won't reveal here) Yuki, the girl and the elder of the two, and Ame, the boy and the younger of them. So the kids can also turn into wolves and as you can imagine since this isn't a piece of shit movie, the wolf-babies kinda cause havoc in their tiny Tokyo apartment.

After practically being chased away by child health services, Hana takes the two kids and herself and moves to a dilapidated house in the mountains, hoping to restore it and start a new life where she won't have to worry about the kids getting caught in public as wolves. However, that's not easy when you're jobless, trying to repair a completely shambled house, and care for two toddlers which are practically wild with no budget. The movie starts with flashbacks of Hana at university and eventually ends with the kids approaching teenhood. It's narrated by Yuki. That's about as much as I'm gonna say, I don't want to spoil the entire movie.

So yeah, you know how sometimes when you finish a work of fiction that's so damn good such as a book or TV show or game or movie or something you're just left totally stunned with a complete emotional connection and you have no idea what else to do afterwards?

This movie is one of those. Perfection. 10/10. Hell, 11/10. Heartwarming. Touching. Feels, but not of the cheesy kind. It's tasteful, it's genuine, it's so...beautiful.

I'm really amazed we didn't have a thread for it yet.
This is far and away not just now one of my favorite anime films of all time, but one of my favorite films ever. Please, please watch it and let me know what you think.

Do want. Thank you soo much for making this thread; I had no idea it even existed.

All I had to see was "by Mamoru Hosoda, whose previous works include... The Girl Who Leapt Through Time" and I knew I was gonna watch it.

It was pretty popular last year.

>>5 It's in the title of the thread.............though more specifically it's more of an anime film rather than an anime series if that's what you meant.

I really hope there is some kind of sequel.

This was suuuuuper good. Wish the theatrical screening was more expansive, definitely going to pick it up sooner or later though.

Man, will Mamoru Hosoda ever make a bad movie?

Rewatched this tonight, dubbed this time.

It's still amazing.

If Hosoda's new film is anything as good as this and his previous ones (and it looks like it will be!) then I think it's safe to say the man is Miyazaki's spiritual successor.
