Suisei no Gargantua, or in English: Gargantia on the Verdurous Planet.
Episode 1 link: http://www.animeplus.tv/suisei-no-gargantia-episode-1

In the future, the Galactic Alliance of Humankind seeks to continue it's expansion outward throughout the galaxy and beyond. The monument to their success, the Avalon, is the pinnacle of all of their achievements. It is said to be by far the greatest city ever to exist, and to go to such a place is treated as the greatest privilege. To hold this capitol, they have built great machines of war, both on large scale and small. They have but one major enemy: the Hideauze.

The Hideauze are flower-like creatures who halt the human's progress, engaging them in large scale fights with their own machines of war. While one side seeks to destroy the other, both cannot advance while the other remains. While the home world of the Hideauze is relatively small, they have an enormous cruiser guarding it, with weapons strong enough to obliterate those who attempt to come near.

Enter Ensign Ledo. A soldier of the Alliance, he, like his fellow comrades, are trained to fight in those machines of war. The one he particularly pilots is named Chamber, a mecha-like machine armed with several combat capabilities. However, soldiers are put in deep sleep until needed for combat, not knowing anything outside of the battle itself. They know no families, no comfort, and not the pleasantries of ordinary life. Given extended service, units are given permission to visit the Avalon if they have excelled in their duty, if only for a brief time.

As the final attack on the Hideauze commences, something goes terribly wrong, and leaves Ledo separated from his fellow soldiers in a crash. Awakening on a strange planet after months of cryo, he must find out where he is, and how he may return to the alliance.

However, something is amiss. Instead of a hostile alien planet or a barren wasteland, Ledo finds himself in a place inhabited by what seem to be other humans, speaking some strange foreign language. They seem to be scavengers, more or less, who attempt to discover the machine brought to them that Ledo rides in.

It is diagnosed by Chamber that this planet is not as foreign as it seems, as it's records match that of old. The natural air, water, and sunlight point only to one planet in particular:
Earth.
Abandoned as mankind took to beyond the skies, the planet still sustains life, despite expectations.

Will Ledo be able to travel back to the Alliance? Or will he be trapped on Earth indefinitely? But perhaps more importantly:
What has happened in the past months that Ledo had been asleep?

Since this anime was only released subbed last Saturday and there's only one episode so far, it proves to be immensely promising. Not only does the orchestra and music resonate with the immensity of the scene, but the animation is fantastic.

I can't really say much more than that, given there's only one episode so far, but I've noticed it has portions of mecha, (potential) romance, action, and what seems to be a setup for a dose of tragedy. (Of course, some of this is speculation)
Still, I'd recommend at least watching the first (and currently, only) episode. A new one should come out once a week.

//Side note: Hopefully someone will upload a HQ version soon, this looks like it would be even more incredible in a better format.

I didn't like the battle scene, found it boring. The music wasn't all that great. But i liked the second half of the episode.

Mind elaborating a bit more? I thought episode 2 was fine.

Two episodes in at the moment...I think that means I'm caught up. Okay, so pros and cons:

Pros:
-Tons of potential with the setting
-Consistent plot points so far between the language barrier and the history of the two races
-Acceptable animation value
-Decent character interaction/dialogue writing

Cons:
-Worried about the pacing. 12 episodes seems short.
-I like the color palette they used but the blushing cheeks don't look good on the characters imo. Waiting to see if this is the popular opinion as well but it just doesn't look good. meh.
-Lack of personality and character development. Sometimes these anime have the habit of establishing the scenario and setting beforehand, and that's fine and all, but the main characters are still pretty bare-boned, and the supporting cast doesn't have much to say for itself two episodes in.

This has so much promise and potential though, I'll be eagerly anticipating new episodes all season.

...I just noticed we have a typo in the thread title. This may mislead people and cause dupes. What action do you guys wanna take on that?

I'm loving this show so far. It's going to be interesting to see what the Urobutcher does with this series.

Eh, it's a 'u' instead of an 'i', I really wouldn't worry about it much.

About the 12 episode pacing though, I doubt it's going to disappoint. The guy writing it was the original creator of a lot of the fate/ zero series, so I really doubt he's going to let anyone down.

dat fanservice episode

I seriously wonder about the pacing of this show, but if it isn't going to have a big "WHAM" plot moment at the end and it instead decides to continue this cheerful carefree slice-of-life tone, I feel I can't really complain. It's been uneventful so far (5 episodes in), but the real drive in this show is seeing the contrast between Ledo's previous lifestyle with the Alliance (I won't spoil some of his quotes but believe me, they can get really grim) and his current lifestyle on Gargantia. The vibrant art and carefully chosen color palette really help to provide a suitable contrast to Ledo's lifestyles which creates a convincingly lighthearted atmosphere aboard the fleet. It doesn't hurt that said art is extremely eye-appealing and the animation isn't mediocre. Since Black didn't post a picture of Gargantia's glorious art in his OP, I want to provide a sample platter of it now.

Just look at it.
Look at it.
hhnnnnnnnnggggggg

Gargantia does have a few flaws and the occasional uninteresting moment, but it hasn't terribly fucked itself up yet. It's visually rewarding and simple on the surface but...well it might not be so simple later. We'll see. Probably my 3rd favorite show of the spring 2013 season, definitely worth checking out at this point.

I really liked this anime. I don't really like mecha animes, but I'm happy that the whole main story wasn't about mecha robots fighting with eachother.

I heard there will be an OVA at the 28th of August in 2013. Can't wait for it :D Nice anime!

Yes I've seen lik 9 episodes before of this anime, but somewhere it made me lost interest and go down hill :/
Should I continue watching it? I mean I kinda want to give it another chance...

It ended pretty well. I'd say just finish it off. If you weren't pleased with the low-keyness and fanservice that the first half (particularly eps 4-6) had, episodes 9-13 should be fine. The fanservice ended and the plot got cranking, if the lack of that was what made you stop watching.

I agree about the pacing in the middle episodes, I was feeling the same concerns but it finished well. By the way Suigita recieved a Newtype award for his voice acting of Chamber.

I kind of liked where it was going before the last bit, although it was a good plot tool, I felt like it kind of just came out of nowhere and threw a bit of a wrench in what they were heading towards. Curious to see where it'll go from here though. It's still a rather unique story regardless, so fairly hopeful.
