A 2012 Anime, Suuki-tte Ii m yo is a remarkable anime based on the same shojo manga. This follows the romance between the social outcast Mei Tachibana and the ridciously popular and handsome Yamoto Kuraswa. Bullied ever since she had been accused of killing the class pet in elementary, Mei has grown up for 16 years without friends. Scarred by the bullying, she determines never to have relationships with other people as they would only betray her in the end. Well this all changes when the supposedly "promiscuous" Yamato kisses her to save her from a stalker.

Very good anime based on one of the best shojo mangas lately. Although it is heavily filled with cliches, it tends to deconstruct or play on the best of them. The soundtracks not so much as spectacular as fits perfectly in every mood. Very nice anime. Good art. Stable Art. Definitely watch

>>10 You say that like it's a bad thing =_=

Most of the popular animes are shounen, meaning they're made for guys. But plenty of girls enjoy them, too. You don't see us refusing to watch them or in general belittling them simply because their target audiences is male, so don't try to do it for animes whose target audience is female. Either give a legitimate opinion on the anime or don't comment in its thread; go curl up in your little shounen threads where you feel safe, Steve, if you can't venture out into the world of shoujo without being rude.

>>10>>12 Seeing how theres such thing as Bronies and i watched a lot of sailor moon and powerpuff girls as a kid, i see no point in hating on an anime with a female target audience.

>>12 >>13 I'm not h8ing on it at all. I'm just wondering if its something only females will like or if its something both genders will like. So, again, no h8 intended.

>>14 Am I correct in assuming that your intention is to decide, at least in part based on whether this is a "for boys" or "for girls" anime, whether or not you'd like it? If so, why not just watch the first few episodes and decide for yourself after actually experiencing the show if you like it enough to keep watching?

Also, to say something more thread-specific, I haven't seen this show yet, but it's on my "anime to watch" list.

>>15 This. It's just wrong to decide whether or not you're going to watch something just by its target audience. At least take the description into consideration :I

>>1 As for the anime, I've yet to see it, but I was a fan of the manga for quite a while. It had pretty good characters and broke out of the shoujo manga stereotype in quite a few chapters. I'll probably watch the anime at some point.

Oh, I remember this.

Ehhhhhhh, just being honest here, I thought it was boring. Got about 3/4 through but never finished it. It's not necessarily that I didn't like it, it just didn't entertain me personally.

Got around to watching the first episode. They changed quite a bit from the manga, and it just didn't flow as well. The voice actors are overused (and Mei's voice actress just wasn't strong enough for her personality). The soundtrack is pretty good, but it doesn't fit the story. The art is above average for its genre but doesn't stand out in the grand scheme of anime art. All in all, it doesn't seem to be bad, but it could have been better and doesn't match up to its manga counterpart.

The websites I'm checking out to watch this are all in subs. Is there any site that has this in English dub or is this only in subs?

>>21 There's no dub yet.

23 Name: Steve : 2013-07-30 19:46 ID:tUKgBAQq [Del]

Ok, thx, that helps a lot. Subs it is then!

By the way, anybody that likes this will probably also like Kimi ni Todoke. I just checked the board archive and surprisingly couldn't find a thread for it.

hint hint guys, thread-making opportunity

Just watched the 1st episode. For being my 1st Slice of Life anime, its pretty cool. I'll keep watching it & see if I still feel that way.

>>24 thx for the recommendation.

>>24 Kimi ni Todoke was just your average shoujo :I
/nointentionofmakingthethread

I had a rant that compared their mangas but decided to just cut it and leave my tl;dr:

Suuki-tte Iimyo was not your average shoujo; Kimi ni Todoke was. Their fans aren't the same. It's like saying that all Naruto fans are going to be fans of Attack on Titan because they're both action shounen series :L

I'm not super familiar with shoujos (obviously, cause I'm male) but I found the two quite alike. That said, I'm only talking about the anime adaptions, since I haven't read either's manga. They gave off many of the same vibes to me. Sure, Kimi ni Todoke had more comedy whereas this was a little more serious, but the drama in them was played very similarly.

Dunno what else to say, Bambi. Just my opinion. I don't see how this is any greater than the other or vice versa.

28 Name: Steve : 2013-07-31 16:34 ID:tUKgBAQq [Del]

I said I'd never watch cheesy, soap-opera like, shows ever...
Turns out that Slice of life, mixed w/ romance, anime is the same thing... I'll make an exception for this.^^

>>27 One isn't greater than the other; they just cater to a different audience.

I admit - the thing about shoujo is that 3/4 of the series have the same story with different characters (which is why I don't read it for story but rather for the guilty pleasure of it). It's the little details that change what part of the shoujo community would be interested in them. I know some shoujo fans who were grossed out by Suukitte Iimyo because it went into taboo topics for shoujo (which I discussed on the manga thread). I think it's the uniqueness of that and the more realistic characters that made this stand out from the other 200 shoujos I've read (excluding the exceptionally good ones with unique stories and art like Kimi no Neiro or Princess Jellyfish).

Anyway, unless you read/watch a lot of it, it's hard to point out the differences and understand what fits into what subgenre of shoujo, so that reaction is understandable.
