The story revolves around Mahiro Fuwa, a teenager whose family was mysteriously murdered one year before and his friend Yoshino Takigawa. Mahiro is contacted by Hakase Kusaribe, the leader of the Kusaribe clan who was left stranded on an unknown desert island by her followers, and agrees to help Hakase in exchange of her help to find out the culprit for the death of his family. Upon learning of his friend's intentions, Yoshino joins him on his quest to stand against the Kusaribe clan who intends to awake the "Tree of Zetsuen" whose power can bring ruin to the entire world.

Several dialogues and plot elements in Zetsuen no Tempest pay homage to the works of William Shakespeare.

With its' great characters, surprisingly dark atmosphere, and epic fights, this is easily one of my favorite animes this year so far.

This has been one of my favorites of the past two seasons. Really surprised we had a thread for it, I guess it slipped under my radar. This is a fantastic show, guys. Very good writing and pace, I can't really find a flaw in it yet. bump

Eight months later...

Well, I watched this show - I thought it was really good! The storyline is really awesome (though I did think something was off about Aika's death the whole time), and so are the characters, so I'm kind of upset that there isn't a larger fanbase.

So, if any of you still look at this thread, who's your favorite character?

One of my top five fave :3 Different story plot besides all the others, a fresh new adventure twists so many twists and turns! Definitely recommend!!! :D Eeeehhh~ I love Yoshino ^.*

I feel like an idiot for not knowing that this was based off a play by Shakespeare (The Tempest). I didn't realize it until my English teacher was summarizing it. "Wow, that sounds really familia- OH."

Well, just to make it clear, it's based off TWO plays by Shakespeare. They continuously talk about the two plays. One is Hamlet, and the other is The tempest. each half of the show based off one of the plays. The second half is more Tempest, and gives us a great ending. I already did a thread for this, too, using the Japanese name, Zetsuen no tempest, and I really just gave my opinion of the show.

Also, is it just me or did anyone else who already watched the show like Yoshino a little better than Mahiro? Like the two are both awesome, but even though Yoshino isn't as action filled as Mahiro, I just seemed to unintentionally take a biased feeling towards Yoshino and he just became my favorite character.

Back to the show, the show easily makes it as one of my favorite anime shows ever. With many plot twists, one MAJOR that I didn't even really see coming, great characters, and doing an excellent job of changing the main story-line after the first main battle was resolved, the show continuously peaks the viewer's interest and influences them to keep watching to the last episode. Even the last episode keeps the viewer satisfied (in the cases of the majority of characters), yet doesn't (for just 2 of the characters in that the viewer does not know completely how/if the relationship between the 2 has changed or not).

Overall, the 24 episode show is definitely worth the watch and not a real let-down at all. It doesn't necessarily have to be watched on Crunchyroll, or at least, I didn't, just because Crunchyroll has ads, but if you just search it up, you'll definitely find other ad free sites that you can use to watch the show.

*Note: As of now, there has been no dub for the show, only sub, but I doubt many of you watch dub anyway, but if you do (like me), I'm just putting it out there.
