Anime Reviewers (1)

1 Name: Sejin !PKt//nzxc2 : 2012-07-18 03:12 ID:TM46nwWG [Del]

So, there are a couple people I've found online who do video reviews of anime, and sometimes other related projects that I really enjoy watching. Personally, I just like hearing others' opinions about things. So I figured I could start a thread where those of us who watch anime reviews, or even make our own, can share links to the reviewers' websites, and maybe give some description of the kind of work they do. So, I'll start.

The two whose reviews I follow are JesuOtaku and Arkada.

JesuOtaku is part of ThatGuyWithTheGlasses (which is also home to the Nostalgia Critic, who is awesome), and her section on the site can be found here: http://thatguywiththeglasses.com/videolinks/ir/jo.

She does very well thought out reviews on anime, in more of a critiquing style as opposed to just what she thinks of it on a personal opinion basis (although, she does have some of that, which I don't think is a bad thing). From what I can tell, I think she may have gone/may be going to film school, and she takes what to me seems like a more scholarly approach to her reviews, which I really, really like. She also does various countdowns from time to time and has done a little bit on a very in-depth review series she calls "in-betweens", for Trigun. She also has "Specials" like a month (or three lol) of Miyazaki, which is still ongoing, where she's reviewing all of the Studio Ghibli films and she's started reviewing some of the films that have come out in theaters this summer, and other stuff. And she's also doing a Fruits Basket Radio Drama, which I have not watched/listened to (whichever is applicable; probably listening as opposed to watching, but I'm tired, so eh... >.<).

The other reviewer whose work I follow, though admittedly not nearly as closely, is Arkada, whose website can be found at: http://www.glassreflection.net/. His reviews (called Glass Reflection) seem to be a bit less critique-heavy as far as style goes. He also has many text reviews of anime on his website that he doesn't have video reviews for. One of the things he does that I particularly like, which he calls First Reaction, is giving somewhat preliminary reviews and impressions for new anime that came out in Japan in a particular season. For example, for Spring 2012 he did Mysterious Girlfriend X, Hyouka, Space Brothers, Jormungand, and several others. I also just noticed that he's following Binbougami Ga for Summer 2012, which I saw the thread for on here that sounded very interesting.

He also started a section on his website some time ago now called the Anime Dealer's Room, where he talks about internet deals on anime, and also just some general tips for buying anime, or buying anime at a convention, stuff like that. It can be very helpful if you don't have much money to spend on anime, or just like finding the best deals you can in general.

So, those are my two. I hope this thread elicits lots of sharing of reviewers. :)
