I don't care what Mesopotamia says, this is Gilgamesh' origin story.

Campione follows Godo Kusanagi, some painfully normal kid with a badass grandpa who gave him a tablet to return to an old friend named Lucretzia in some italian town.

No sweat, right? Except soon after getting there, he gets mugged at knife point by a blond girl, who then proceeds to pull a big ass sword out of a steel lion's mouth to do battle with a multi-story sized colossal God-boar out to fuck shit up.

Because he's a courageous protagonist, he runs to save her from certain doom and manages to succeed in a way that doesn't embarass him. To show her thanks, Erica Blandelli - the girl he saved - shows him the way to his grandfather's old friend, Lucretzia.

Lucretzia... turns out to be a perpetually young lascivious bombshell whose either out for random sexy thrills or just loves teasing people. She tells Godo to keep the tablet - which is actually an amazingly powerful grimoire capable of stealing away a god's authority to use it as your own.

Well, push comes to shove and a big ass super god-king gets revived by a little god kid who is apparently so badass that he goes around reviving god-kings for the hell of it just to kill them again. This guy is Verethragnas, the Victor. The strongest God, the Undefeated. He Who Makes Bricks Be Shat.

Veregthragnas is desperately searching for someone capable of defeating him, having never once known loss. So, he tries something interesting - Since he can never lose, he attempts to bet against himself. When an unstoppable force meets an immovable object... Somehow Godo appears on a bigass horse that's riding a hadouken out of a book, then becomes Gilgamesh from Fate/Stay Night and manages to get the girl in episode 1.

holy shit, Godo.

Interestingly though, due to a curse - Those who kill a god, retain that god's power. So Godo, the normal guy with a badass grandpa, just became the strongest god in existence, He Who Makes Bricks Be Shat.

The story continues from there.

------------

I was expecting... not what this series provided. I saw a normal guy, I saw a super-powered girl, I saw a plot device, I expected the usual formula of "guy sucks, girl kicks ass, somehow needs guy to kickass harder".

What I got was the guy immediately going balls to the wall in the first episode, ursurping the powers of the most badass god, and becoming motherfucking gilgamesh while sweeping the girl off her feet. Holy shit, where does this series even go from here?

Apparently there are 6 other people like him walking around being badass or something. It's going there, and by god I'm following it.

Damn this season's anime is good. I'm sorry japan, I didn't mean it when I thought anime was starting to suck due to the decline of quality series lately! I didn't know you were just saving it all for one big blow out!

Second episode happened... and Wow, that was a massive offscreen plot development.

I feel like I've missed an entire season between episodes 1 and 2. Suddenly ten days passed, he had met and fought the other Campione, and Erica was naked in bed.

Holy shit, Godo. You don't fuck around.

Still kind of sore about missing the other campione, but it did explain the Erica bit (which feels a bit forced, hopefully it'll become more natural as the series goes on).

The first episode left me with high hopes, the second episode left me unsure.

So, Campione continues to be awesome even when the other series are wrapping up their seasons. Godou has successfully kept up his streak of being a badass motherfucker full of swag capable of brazenly facing down gods and kicking their ass so hard that he gets a new harem member out of it.

But now? Oh no, he wouldn't stop at that. Godo is injecting his divine protection into all sorts of things, a feat that apparently acts as a major level up for his harem's combat capability.

Holy shit, Erika Blandelli. Did you just tell a god-weapon to go fuck itself?
