Humanity has declined - Over years and years of reduced birth rates, mankind is slowly becoming extinct. As a species, we simply weren't able to make the final cut and are now crawling slowly towards our own inevitable demise.

It seems, however, that humanity is not the only thing which is slowly fading. Most domesticated animals, and other earth life-forms in general aside from vegetation and overgrowth, are losing the ability to go on with their reproduction.

In short, the world ends not with a bang - But with the starving whimpers of an entire planet that knows it's dying, and struggles only to prolong its life.

This is the story of Jinrui.

Also there are fairies. They're like six inches tall and addicted to sweets, with access - supposedly - to amazing technology that has been lost and unknown to mankind.

-----------------

Now despite all of this - except the fairies - Jinrui is surprisingly cheery! The artwork is adorably upbeat and happy, the world is always bright and sunny and full of lovely nature, everything has a very comfortable feel to it. Even the voice acting is filled with carefree tones, and the only thing that's angsted in this show thus far was some bread!

The bread died later.

So Jinrui turned out to be nothing like what I thought it'd be - From the description, I assumed it would be a more serious fight for survival. What I got, however, was a somewhat light hearted slice of life regarding the end of the world - And I'm fine with this.

Because I'm not sure whether I should be amused or horrified by what I've watched.

Lurking just beneath this series' facade of being light hearted and carefree is a decisively depressing world that this series holds no punches making light of, and poking at. From cheery conversations regarding the end of human culture as we know it, to food running out, to educational conditioning to forcing happy thoughts, and even further beyond into manipulation of power and authority.... All of this in the first episode. Of light hearted and cheery slice-of-life.

This show ended with my expression caught rigidly in a shape torn between smiling and recoiling in horror, with equal parts laughter and groans of despair both trying to escape from my throat but not knowing which one was supposed to be there.

For the first time in a very long time, I don't know what the fuck I just watched - But by god I'm going to continue it.

I... will watch this. Soon.

If I torrent it, I don't have to wait for videos to buffer, I don't have to deal with ads, and the quality is so much better. So to answer you're question, yes I'm going to torrent this and no I am not some kind of stupid.

>Implying torrenting isn't free

People who slower, or unstable internets generally find it simpler to torrent a series to watch then have to buffer the damn thing VIA streaming. I personally can testify to say that streaming an episode of something can take almost three times as long as the episode itself would run - So for a 20 minute series, I'm looking at an hours worth of buffering.

Aside from that, Torrenting a series allows easy access at all times after it's done. No internet? on your PSP? on a laptop in the middle of fuck nowhere? power's out? It's there, and plays flawlessly. It's also much easier to share it with family and friends by way of USB/Micro SD.

And then even beyond that, Torrenting series allows access to the footage itself, which provides a large majority of the AMVs found on youtube that are produced before the DVD/BD gets released.

Beyond all of that....

Simulcasting sucks and is perpetually late and shitty.

Second episode of Jinrui came out. I finished it feeling much the same way I felt after the first.

The way it's perpetually tying together that light hearted cheeriness with horribly black humor is amazing.

Also, Watashi's hair. Oh god.

I only just discovered this a few weeks ago, but it was absolutely phenomenal. Like Aya kinda described, I'm not sure if I enjoyed it or was terrified of it, because the world and setting draw you in so much and the different moods balance so well. To be completely honest, it kinda reminded me of Adventure Time with its crazy post-apocalyptic silly surrealism. This is a must-watch. bump

Oh Jinrui, your existence to this day can only be described as a sickeningly sweet cyanide. So cheerful and happy, but with every bite I feel a little more of my soul die.

I still use it's ED for completely inappropriate things. Like fighting zombies, and waging war.

That picture is a screenshot from the opening of the show.
Not to mention Aya covered the juxtaposition between the cheery visuals and the dark undertones of the plot in the opening post.

I tried doing the OP's dance just now.
I think I threw out my back. That's a lot harder than it looks.

side note to self: nano.RIPE anime themes are a guilty pleasure of mine.
Gotta learn the guitar for the OP. Sounds fun to play.

but srsly guise if you try to do the dance you're gonna have a bad time.
