STEINS GATE is a relatively new anime. It takes place in the same universe as Chaos Head. If you haven;t heard of the anime...well I'll just give you the generic summary (From ANN)
Rintaro Okabe is a self-proclaimed "mad scientist" who believes that an international scientific organization named SERN is conspiring to reshape the world according to its own interests. He and his friend Itaru Hashida inadvertently create a gadget able to send messages to the past. The discovery and experimentation of this instrument become the catalyst of fundamental alterations to the present. Okabe is the only one aware of these changes because he possesses a Reading Steiner, the ability to retain the memories from previous experienced timelines. Oblivious of the consequences of their actions, Rintaro and his friends end up creating modifications of grievous proportions. He must then try to find a way to return as close as possible to the original timeline in order to save his precious lab partners.
It's an amazing series and if you area fan feel free to discuss it in the comments :3

Ok the synopsis that I gave above is a bit confusing...so try this one:D The story of Steins;Gate takes place in Akihabara (in the same fictional universe as Chaos;Head) and is about a group of friends who have customized their microwave into a device that can send text messages to the past. As they perform different experiments, an organization named SERN who has been doing their own research on time travel tracks them down and now the characters have to find a way to avoid being captured by them.

Truthfully, I have no idea. However, lets try to keep the discussion from here on about the show. (I can't contribute, as I haven't seen it).

Because if you read the FAQ, this thread is vastly superior and can exist. Read it again for christ's sakes.

Oh, and contributing to the thread.

I liked it a lot, much more so than Chaos;Head, which is kinda, sorta, related to this. Actually, not really, it's a spiritual successor, but anyways.

Spoiler to those who haven't watched/read the visual novel:

Man, Mayuri dying constantly even when Okabe/HOUOUIN KYOUMA tries to save her... It's just too maddening... Just too damn sad.

But yeah, even with the sad parts of the anime, this show also has its funny parts. Hehe.

El Psy Congroo. Bitches.

Yeah it was much more well done than Chaos Head. One of my favorite things in the series is the great animation they use.

I thought Chaos;Head was rubbish. It started off well bit got really bad towards the end. Still, I think I'll give this a chance, it looks somewhat interesting. But then again, so did Chaos;Head, so I don't really expect anything amazing.

I never saw/read "Chaos;Head" but I'd say give "Steins;Gate" a go, it's on the other end of the spectrum. Not gonna lie, this was basically series of the year for me last year. Probably because I could connect so well with Okabe (I just had to cosplay as him). I'll likely snag the DVDs when I get the chance. What I saw of the dub was very solid, namely in the script.

13 Name: Balthizar : 2012-09-27 01:24 ID:OGApbKPC [Del]

I watched the first four episodes when they were dubbed, and they did an amazing job. I want to watch the rest of the series, but all the remaining episodes haven't been released online yet (even though the box set released yesterday). My question is this: should I watch the rest of the series subbed (which is great from what I hear), be patient and wait for a dubbed source to come out online (seeing that I've become so attached to the dubbed cast already), or fork over some cash and buy the box set? What do you guys think?

I loved Steins;Gate. It had really nice visuals, lovable characters and a great storyline that's quite original. I watched the first episode of robotics;notes the other day, and i just couldn't get into it like i did with Steins. Can anyone who is watching robotics;notes tell me that it gets better?

15 Name: El_Taco !QkB/SKbtqg : 2012-11-12 19:45 ID:XW2xoQF8 [Del]

>>13
I prefer the subtitles, I feel like the Japanese actors portray the characters better. In my opinion, it is superior to the dub (I can't get used to Okabe's English voice).

>>14
I agree. The problem with Robotics;Notes is that it doesn't leave you with much to agonize about at the end of an episode that makes you crave more like Steins;Gate. But honestly, I was pumped after the first episode with the reference to Chaos;Head. I thought it was so cool, and I really hope they at least hint why they put that reference in. So far, the story holds up. It's not amazing, but its not bad either. I am left with some questions that I hope they will answer. For the position you're in, I say that you should hold out on it a little longer. Maybe it'll get better soon, I don't know, but I feel like I haven't received a valid plot point for Robotics;Notes yet... we'll just have to wait and see.

Oh and Steins;Gate is my favorite Anime of all time!! I look up to Hououin Kyouma!!

Just watched two episodes of this last night/early morning. I was bored, and kept hearing a shit ton of people talking about this. On here, on other sites, and many times on my texting group.

Thus, I decided to give it a try.

From what I've seen, it's pretty good, but hopefully they don't 'run and overuse' the comical elements in it, and has enough action in a sense, in the series to counter-balance the comedy/over-acting (which is funny) in it.

So far it's pretty fun to watch.

Chaos;Head, Steins;Gate, and Robotics;Notes are all said to take place within the same universe just on different 'world lines' (for more information on 'world lines' watch steins;gate).
They all have the same basic theme of, 'nerds get in way over their head, pull through somehow, thus saving the world'
They don't relate to each other in any significant way, so they can be watched independently from one another. Chaos;Head is considered to be the weakest of the three.

There was talk of another continuation of Steins; Gate after the movie because of how well that series alone did. Same universe, obviously. Same characters. Same story, just continued.

Well the definition of the term 'season' could easily be debated, I looked at all 20+ episodes as the same season, as they all aired in succession. The use of the word 'season' comes from the fact that shows are spaced to air around spring, summer, fall, and winter. making a ~12 episode 'season' as aired once per week. So I suppose that as 22/24/26 episode show could be called 2 seasons, in this case airing from the start of summer to the end of fall.

None the less I await any future productions with bated breath

though i myself would love it to have another season, but in my personal opinion it looks like impossible...the story for me feels completed and i don't like any half ass continuation...

The new movie is actually a continuation from the end of the series, though. Meaning they may possibly (and from what I heard, most likely) will have another season added onto it.

I just finished watching Steins;Gate last night. From the descriptions I'd read before watching it, I expected it to start off faster than it did, but in hindsight I like that they took their time in those first several episodes to set things up well. Because of that, when it got (MUCH!) more serious about halfway in, it didn't feel forced at all.

Many times, when I watch a series that has emotional moments, even if I become invested in them, they don't really get me to feel the full weight of the scenes. In that regard, Steins;Gate did VERY well with the emotional scenes. I was REALLY pulled into them and felt the full weight of what the characters were going through.

In addition, I freakin' loved the characters. I always enjoy when a show does character bantering back and forth well (a la Holo and Lawrence in Spice and Wolf), so having that between the various characters was enjoyable and entertaining to watch.

I'm really glad this show didn't have any of that love triangle wishy-washy male lead stuff. Being based off a visual novel with several female characters, I could see it easily going that route. And I am SO glad it didn't.

I was expecting good things from Steins;Gate going in, because I'd heard that it was generally considered to be pretty good, but it far exceeded my expectations.

I'm glad I'm not the only one that feels Robotics;Notes wasn't as engaging...personally, I'd put that one as the weak link in the trilogy. I was privileged to see Steins;Gate first (to this day one of my favorites), and where Chäos;HEAd was extremely confusing and dry, I liked the concept behind it.

Also, this happened here once, and this seems the appropriate place to share...

--SPOILERS--

Can we talk about that episode (I think it's 19) when Okabe confronts Moeka? I think it's one of the best episodes in the show, if one of the hardest to watch. I think it's a fascinating view of a side of Okabe that we don't see elsewhere. He is a lot rougher with her than he needs to be, and while it's totally understandable, it's interesting to see that darker side of Okabe. It would have been easy for the writers to have him forgive her (it would have been very stereotypical-anime-hero of him to be kind even to his enemies) but I think it is so much better that they don't. He's pretty horrific to Moeka, and it makes me cringe to watch it, but it's one of the moments that the show that makes him seem like a real person.

What's everyone else's feelings on this?

--SPOILERS--

holy shit yes i loved that episode. honestly i just liked okabe more and more since the "mayushi rescue arc". before he was just likeable as a funny dude – hyououin kyouma! but the series got dark and gritty and dived right into everybody's character. watching okabe suffer and cry was one hell of an experience, then watching him, after having to go through all that, relentlessly insult moeka then smack the fuck outta her was discomforting yet so satisfying. steins;gate did a really good job in that, making every character human in the end, and no matter what happened you felt empathy for every single one.

but for real though, (in the episode after) that scene where braun shoots himself then it cuts to his daughter with breakfast laid out just absolutely killed me

>>86 I KNOW! That episode was so gut-wrenching. And, I totally agree with you about the characters. It's quite possible to dislike Okabe, he's not some generic likable hero. He has moments of weakness, and he has moments where he really isn't a nice guy at all. But, that makes him more human like you said. I love it.

I have to rewatch this show sometime. It was so full of emotion, and I wasn't expecting it at all.
