1 Name: Naru : 2012-05-02 01:20 ID:lZl28Cf3 [Del]

I wanna hear some obscure animes that you watched :D stuff that you have to google to even know ^^
I'm gonna try by saying Aquairon or Blood+ (though thats sorta well know i think)

Apparently, Code Lyoko is obscure. I have yet to meet people outside of the Code Lyoko thread that have even heard of it. DX

4 Name: Crisis !JjfHYEcdHQ : 2012-05-02 12:47 ID:IPabaTYO [Del]

>>3 Really? It was really popular for a while.

5 Name: NaeBree !jAUXc1hruw : 2012-05-02 14:02 ID:SdQWtAwp [Del]

>>4 I know it was! Thats why im surpised nobody has heard of it. It is my favorite anime of all time, and having no friends who have even heard of it sucks.. And they're all major otaku, so they should at least recognize the title... :/

6 Name: Crisis !JjfHYEcdHQ : 2012-05-02 14:05 ID:IPabaTYO [Del]

>>5 For real? Wow... I mean they even have videogames for it...

7 Name: NaeBree !jAUXc1hruw : 2012-05-02 14:14 ID:SdQWtAwp [Del]

>>6 And i want those videogames so bad. :C They look pretty cool.

8 Name: Ayanavi : 2012-05-02 14:20 ID:qsqRlFya [Del]

Most people would consider anime to be of japanese or asian origin.

Code Lyoko would count as "obscure" because it's not technically anime - It comes from France. An "Otaku" would have no knowledge of it, simply because it's not oriental.

9 Name: Maru-Kai !FzZsxghPjA : 2012-05-02 14:41 ID:XJNZWy4K [Del]

Would "Yosuga no Sora" count?

Though if you haven't heard of it.....i'm just gonna say........incest.....yea.....

it has a pretty kick ass opening song though.

>>1 Blood +? It is more well known than alot of anime, other than the big 3.

And... I'm not exactly sure what obscure anime I've watched, I usually just keep up with current seasons.

11 Name: bang-bang : 2012-05-02 14:55 ID:SnYhkzud [Del]

I don't even know what op means by 'obscure'. I need some criteria here. Just 'you have to google it to know!' doesn't really mean anything:/

12 Name: NaeBree !GzCEh9dwXM : 2012-05-02 15:45 ID:ChP52o95 [Del]

>>11 Obscure. Why the fuck do you need an explanation? Obscure is obscure. The opposite of well known.

13 Name: bang-bang : 2012-05-02 15:58 ID:SnYhkzud [Del]

>>12 Oh come on. What's obscure to me might not be to you. Because we live in different places, spin in different circles. Obscure to who? Well known to who? It depends on country, probably age and maybe other things.

Like this, this thread is going to be full of 'I think this is obscure' and 'Nah, come on, that's not really obscure, everyone knows that!' kind of answers.

14 Name: NaeBree !GzCEh9dwXM : 2012-05-02 16:54 ID:ChP52o95 [Del]

>>13 Exactly. The point is putting down what you think are obscure animes.

There's been a trilogy of films, 5 albums of character songs, 4 video games, it's been licensed by Funimation project, god knows how many doujinshis, 6 manga series, and number 10 in Japanese 2009 anie rankings. Not obscure at all

Metantei Holmes. It's a really old Sherlock Holmes anime where the characters are anthropomorphic dogs. Six of the episodes were directed by Miyazaki, actually. That's partly what drew me into watching it ^^

21 Name: Mael !DoMiNUIT9I : 2012-05-02 23:43 ID:aPqKq725 [Del]

Obscure?
Cat Soup, Bartender, Black Heaven, Golden Boy, Katanagatari, Kara no Kyoukai, Mardock Scramble, Now and Then Here and There.

I could go on forever, listing things that I think deserve more attention. But that's it for now... Everything I listed is pretty awesome. Cat Soup is just...idk... really weird. Everything else is amazing, and needs more attention.

22 Name: Hibari : 2012-05-03 02:21 ID:FjJ9BE9y [Del]

Would anyone agree that akira kinda obscure?

23 Name: Mael !DoMiNUIT9I : 2012-05-03 14:23 ID:aPqKq725 [Del]

25 Name: Hibari : 2012-05-04 09:37 ID:5V0tPB71 [Del]

If Eden: it's an endless world! was a animd it would be very obscure.

26 Name: Hibari : 2012-05-04 09:38 ID:5V0tPB71 [Del]

Oop! Ment to say anime not animd.

27 Name: BarabiSama : 2012-05-04 11:21 ID:qhQF3ZIm [Del]

It seems like Serial Experiments Lain is a little more obscure :O

28 Name: Eneva : 2012-05-04 13:43 ID:P2lDwWpF [Del]

ok i dont know much if these are considered obscured or not but i thought id still put it on here because i have never seen anyone talking abour them. they are: Tatakau Shisho The Book of Bantorra, To Aru Majutsu no Index, Noir,Persona Trinity Soul,Seikimatsu Occult Gakuin, Freezing

>>30 Elfen Lied isn't obscure at all.

32 Name: Black!5L7V/xvR76 : 2012-05-06 00:21 ID:fv5y28oT [Del]

>>30
Actually, Elfen Lied is rather infamous.
If you simply google search "TV MAVSL"- Which is the show's rating, you get almost every page leading you to Elfen Lied. Not even kidding.
In case you're wondering, TV MAVSL means that the TV show is rated TV-MA, but has to have ADDITIONAL tags for EXTREME sections.
The extra "V" means it is unbelievably violent.
The extra "S" means it has a vast amount of nudity/ sex.
The extra "L" means it has a vast amount of language.
So yeah, it got all of those XD
Not even allowed to be aired uncut on U.S. television, fyi.
Actually, Adult Swim tried to air it a few years ago, but had to "chop so many parts of the video out that the entire episode was shortened to about 6 minutes." So yeah, you can tell they didn't run it.

TL:DR: Elfen Lied is infamous, not obscure. (not necessarily, anyway.)

33 Name: Apple !1C6JcPWEcg : 2012-05-06 06:05 ID:NsmLJWos [Del]

I think the most obscure one I watched is "Lain." Not really sure what's going on until the very end. But I enjoyed it - but serious "wtf" througout the series.

34 Name: Ayanavi : 2012-05-06 08:05 ID:KY3KpzBv [Del]

>>33

Are you implying you understand what was going on by the end of Lain?

Because if so, you should go rewatch it. There is so much going on that the things going on have things going on which go on while things go on around the things going on.

35 Name: Feral : 2012-05-06 09:10 ID:iBPwuIdP [Del]

>>34 I've been sitting here for an hour trying to make an inception joke out of that... I got nothin'.

Kino's Journey.

A very well put together anime that I had a lot of fun with. Don't really know how to explain it, though...

36 Name: BarabiSama!!C8QPa1Mt : 2012-05-06 19:03 ID:cfmORWM9 [Del]

>>34 This. I would rather bang my head against a wall than try to understand what the fuck just happened at any point in Lain.

In no particular order:
-Casshern Sins
-Monster
-Seirei no Moribito
-Ghost Hound
-Dennou Coil
-Noien
-Legend of the Galactic Heroes

38 Name: Hibari : 2012-05-07 09:54 ID:M1BH7ymj [Del]

Journey to the west. Can't remember if it's an anime or just a cartoon.

39 Name: Sejin !PKt//nzxc2 : 2012-07-17 21:19 ID:TM46nwWG [Del]

Koi Kaze. I guess you could say that it's about incest, but most of the time when I see/hear that word, it has more of a context of sexual relations than anything else, so I'm kinda hesitant to use it to describe Koi Kaze. Because this anime is far from being a hentai. I really like how they handled the material, rather maturely and thoughtfully and with little to no pandering and fan service.

40 Name: Em !1PZuOSuEBg : 2012-07-17 23:17 ID:gSUNfDD+ [Del]

>>3 Ooh! I used to watch that on CN! :D I remember it was really popular for a while, but then its fanbase kinda died off at my school... e.e

>>17 It's not quite obscure(in my eyes)... but it is a gem of an anime that is often overlooked. I would recommend it.

And a few from me...
~Toradora!
~Minami-Ke!
~Darker Than Black (Maybe?)
~Welcome To The N.H.K.
~Chrno Crusade/Chrono Crusade
~Umineko No Naku Koro Ni
~Higurashi No Naku Koro Ni

I could go on... but those are the ones I felt that were good enough to deserve a bit more attention. :3

41 Name: DN : 2012-07-18 16:06 ID:FmboGpCg [Del]

A really good one is Full Metal Panic! I REALLY enjoyed watching it. One of the best animes I have watched.

Highly recommend:
Hellsing
Umineko no naku koro ni
Higurashi no naku koro ni
Ookami Kakushi

43 Name: Rhalina : 2012-07-19 02:27 ID:VXF5c82K [Del]

I can only think of two that aren't too famous.
Claymore and Vampire Knight.

44 Name: watashi : 2012-07-19 03:19 ID:oGLSMNhy [Del]

>>43
Those two are top ranking in any anime site's "Most Watched". Or manga site's "Most Read"

I'd say Kuroshitsuji was on the down low, but not sure any more. Ano Hi Mita Hana no Namae wo Boku-tachi wa Mada Shiranai is pretty obscure too, in my opinion.

An old 80s Anime OVA that I like is California Crisis. It's kinda cheesy as it tries to copy 80s movies and the storyline is flawed, but I liked it! (I guess because I like 80s stuff anyways lol) The theme song is pretty cool! Streets are hot

Tono to Issho (translates to "My Lord and Me")
This can be watched on crunchyroll or on a couple other sites. Each episode is only 5 minutes. It's kind of like Hetalia in that it's history on crack, except this anime is solely about the Sengoku era of Japan. It's based off a 4-panel gag manga. It's a good series for a quick laugh. It's described as "largely based on famous historical figures saying silly things." It's only twelve episodes. Pretty entertaining if you're interested in samurai.

Elemental Gelade is pretty unknown.

I'd say Now and Then, Here and There, Bludgeoning Angel Dokuro-chan, Sekirei, and B Gata H Kei, two of which I'm embarrassed at having seen.

66 Name: Lonerface : 2013-01-10 07:39 ID:EEu2JLf6 [Del]

Another is the freakiest anime I have seen so far. That and Hellsing. They're more really blood and gore. But Another is more of a suspense thriller type whereas Hellsing is mostly fighting and creepy looking 'people'. If that's the kind of obscure you're looking for.

Nanatsuiro Drops is a pretty obscure anime. And very good, it's one of my favorites. :)

Oretachi ni Tsubasa wa Nai could be considered obscure. That's also a good series.

Gakuen Heaven is obscure, but be warned this is shounen-ai. It's light (meaning, nothing past kissing) but nonetheless, shounen-ai.

There's also Idolmaster: Xenoglossia, and Puchi Puri Yuushi (Petite Princess Yucie in English).

84 Name: ZZ-3000 : 2013-02-05 15:03 ID:jyrsozRO [Del]

Would Gankutsuou be considered obscure? It is a 2004 adaptation of the Count of Monte Cristo, except he it's set in a futuristic sci-fi setting where the count is a vampire from space 0.o

85 Name: xAxisx : 2013-02-05 23:30 ID:0Miwxprb [Del]

I'm not sure what's obscure to you but I suggest Sora No Woto and Angel Beats.
