Mardock Scramble tells the story Rune Balot, a girl whose past is something best left unsaid. Circumstances have left her brother in prison, father in the hospital, and she herself as a young girl unable to study due to lack of parental permission.

With no family, no home, at the age of 15, Rune Balot sought shelter in whore houses. She became a prostitute to survive, became emotionless as she struggled to find out what "love" was.

And eventually, she was picked up by a wealthy man named Shell.

"The definition of Love is 'to give', love has rules. If you'll follow my rules, then I will love you."

Desperate to discover love, she accepts; becoming his personal toy. Yet after some time, even he betrays her - Abandons her - Having sex with her one final time before having her murdered in order to synthesize her body into a 'blue diamond' ring.

She dies never knowing love.

But then she gets better.

A forbidden technology only allowed in extreme cases like hers is utilized, reviving Rune Balot from death, bestowing her with unprecedentedly powerful and adept control over electronics.

She is then joined by a very proud golden mouse and a cooky scientist. They fight crime.

Or rather, she is their client - A dead girl, who has been revived in order to provide evidence towards solving the case against Shell regarding his criminal activities. Given power, and tempted by the possibility of finding a purpose, Rune Balot accepts life... And changes, for better or worse.

--------------------

Description aside, Mardock Scramble is... Amazing. It is being published as a movie trilogy - Of which only one has been released on DVD/subbed for viewing.

It's rare that I get into something and immediately I get drawn in. Rune Balot's story sounds stereotypically "oh no, I'm sad" - But it is pulled off amazingly well. Her character is very fulfilling to watch, and not once did I find myself sitting back going "god, this is dramatic".

Combat in this is pretty interesting. No punches get held when it comes to the brutal efficiency and animation that went into this - Sometimes it's literally flinch worthy.

The story held me from the beginning - Following Balot's life is... entrancing. She's not your cliche sad girl. Her personality is complex, she has flaws, and you can easily see the effect that her past has had on her to this day.

It's rare that a character's backstory is factored so deeply into their core personality. It's not just supplemental information about where she came from - This show takes great lengths to emphasize that her past is responsible for who and what she is today.

There's still a lot we don't know about the story - Though a manga format is fully available. However, there is much more to come... The first move is only the beginning of something I fully expect to be of epic proportions.

Fun Trivia: Mardock Scramble has egg themes in it.

Mardock Scramble... oh man how I can't wait for Second Combustion.

I thoroughly enjoyed everything about it... Also, control over technology? Sounds like the best power ever? Lets add in a golden mouse that wears overalls and complains about his tail. But the mouse is even better than that... I won't spoil anything... but I'd kill for that mouse... in a heartbeat.

Also, 'Dat final fight... fuck gravity, it means nothing.

I don't even like Amazing Grace, but damn.

This is off the soundtrack of Mardock Scramble. It shows up when you least expect it to, and when it does - It just hits you like a goddamn train. I legitimately dislike that song, but now... I've got that track downloaded.

>>6 Lolno... It stops there because it's going to be a movie trilogy... The Second Combustion should be translated within a few months. When it is, I'll most likely bump this thread with links~
