26 years ago, in a third-year classroom of a middle school, there was a student named Misaki. As an honors student who was also good at sports, the charming girl was popular with her classmates. When she suddenly died, her classmates decided to carry on as if she was still alive until graduation. Then, in the spring of 1998, a boy named Sakakibara Kouichi transfers to that classroom, and he grows suspicious of the fearful atmosphere in that classroom. In particular, there is a beautiful, aloof girl named Mei Misaki who wears an eyepatch and is always alone drawing pictures.

Another is one of those rare things in common anime. Most series are coming of age stories, or harem stories... Another is a Horror genre.

Something happened 26 years ago that everyone in the town is traumatized over - Literally, I think it effects the entire town. For no good reason, the entire place looks like its been abandoned for decades.

The main character, Sakakibara Kouishi moves into the cursed class, meets lots of people, sees an abandoned desk, meets a dead girl, and then proceeds to- After a little prodding- do the most logical thing possible: Call everyone out on being creepy as fuck.

Well, turns out a game is being played. I'll refer to it as a game for lack of a better term; it has rules, after all.

If you follow the rules, everyone gets to live. This is good.

If you break the rules, then people will die every month in Class 3 of the 9th grade - Presumably until the year is over, or everyone is dead. This is not limited to the students, but to the student's friends... family... siblings... pets... You get the gist. They will all die in terrible, unforeseen and rare occurrences.

So you'd think that telling the new kid these rules would be important, right? Can't have him breaking a rule and everyone murdered in horrible ways, right?

WRONG

These dumb motherfuckers actively AVOID telling the new guy "Oh hey, you remember last monday? When you asked about the dead girl? Yeah, you broke a rule and now my dog died of having an entire entire chainsaw accidentally fall into it's anus, and then lightning strike its power cord and turning it on. inside."

They go so far as to pro-actively stop people from informing him how not to keep killing people by breaking rules.

So here's the gist. You just joined a game, whether you like it or not. If you break the rules, people die. What are the rules?

You don't get to know.

I find myself losing more and more sympathy for the classmates who die. Dumbfucks. But on the other hand, I'm becoming much more curious about Misaki Mei - There's some kind of history behind her, surrounding all of these events, She seems like she's just as much of a prisoner as the students are in all of this.

Well, this thread totally inspired me to watch this... THANKS AYA, now I have to sit through another show while its airing...

It's stupid how no one explained it to the new principle. If they just said something like "There's a curse in this class where if we don't follow certain rules we'll die, so could you please not send any new people to our class because we don't want anyone to die."

And also I think the reason why they can't tell him of the rules is because telling him the rules and telling him about Misaki would also be breaking the rules. So it would make sense that everyone already knew the rules prior to being in class 3-3 because if they spoke of it while they were in class 3 then they would die.

But then again why not just rid of class 3-3 for good (not the students, the classroom)

So your logic behind "don't tell him the rules!" is that telling him the rules will break them.

As opposed to him breaking them anyway, but being ignorant and breaking more of them repeatedly.

Because that makes perfect sense.

It would make sense in their heads, maybe.

You know - "maybe he won't break any of the rules, we shouldn't risk telling him and breaking one!"

But I haven't watched this, so I don't know how valid that would be.

Nah, everyone expects him to screw up from day 1. And I doubt telling him the rules is against the rules - In the manga, not so much the anime - Several characters try to tell him.

But then, suddenly, they have something more important to do. Or another student steps in like "No, don't do it."

"But they need to know!"

"No."

So I can assume there isn't actually a rule against telling him the rules, since so many people actively try to from time to time. But apparently they're happy getting killed off like flies, or they really needed to get home and catch their favorite soaps.

It just gets stranger and stranger...

I started watching Another yesterday. Omg. Why is it so creepy? O_O BUT omg why can't I stop watching? I watched all 7 episodes in one roll.

I'm absolutely hooked on this. The suspense, the mystery of who "Another" is, and the characters' interaction as well. I'm in love with this show. Can't wait for more!

This anime is just amazing! It always has me on the edge of my seat cause it has a bad habbit of leaving cliff hangers.

Bump from the dead. These deaths, they're entertaining, yet I'm on the verge of insanity from episode 3. Why do umbrellas have points anyway? Jeez.

The dead person really surprised me... The person didn't cross my mind as the extra.

This was fantastic. I didn't really understand why anyone would call it horror until those last 2 episodes came up. And holy shit, so much death. Those plots twists just kept coming and coming. I usually have a pretty good assumption of who the who is in whodunit stories, but this kept me guessing til the reveal. I didn't even have the slightest prediction it was ______.

I'm still trying to get over how fucking intense those last two episodes were. Holy shit.

Ah... Even if they were to explain the rules of the calamity, the calamity had already started taking place the month before Sakakibara even arrived so it really wouldn't have made any difference. And there are many rules about the calamity that nobody's sure about yet so they probably figured that if they just make him non-existent as well and carried on as usual everything would be fine. But even then, making people non-existent only had a 50-50 chance of working each year anyway.

This show was awesome though it felt like alot more people died than the series specified.

I'm happy Another is the first horror anime that I watched.

and the first OVA (episode 0) is sweet, it showed how cheerful Mei is when she's with her twin.

I was 12 when I watched and it didn't scare me AT ALL however, I'm not gonna lie and say that the umbrella scene didn't phase me but there was nothing overly scary to me. I am glad it was the first anime I watched because it was AMAZING!!!! I loved the plot and how the deaths weren't like a million in a few minutes but instead subtle KIND OF SPOILER ALERT until it got to the end, still great ending and i loved watching it.

Please no people saying about how I boasted about being 12 and not being scared by it because it un nerved even so. And nothing about my grammar either.

Like in episode five when that one kid was going to tell sakakibara what happened to misaki he had a heart attack before he could say anything. but I think only the people who (dont exist) can tell other people because misaki didnt die when she told sakakibara

I loved this one because by the last episode I thought I had it all figured out then huge plot twist was great!

I really liked watching this! I used to watch it at night and it seriously gave me the creeps. I usually hate watching horror stuff, but I wanted to know what would happen in the end.
