Admittingly, I am still a Narutard at heart. I even own 5 of the movies actually. I don't watch the anime anymore, though I continue to read the manga. And yes I know that Naruto has gone downhill, especially anime wise, but I can never hate it.

Oh man, I used to be a narutard. Bought the headband, and I wanted to style my hair like fucking Sasuke. Epic shit man. Epic shit.

But yeah, that was before I realized there were better shows out there.

Anyway, I used to like this show too.
Then I soon realized how crappy it was. The amount of shows that are better then this are literally endless. (Obviously)
My final straw was the Naruto Vs Sasuke fight.
Don't get me wrong, it was an epic fight, just way too many flashbacks. It's okay to have flashbacks in fights but not so many that it ruins the momentum of it.
It was pretty much a montage of repeating memories (And a desperate attempt to make you cry) then an actual fight.
If you removed all the flashbacks the fight would probably last about 40 seconds. (Obviously an Exaggeration)
Now you can like Naruto and all, I don't care. But I hate it when I add my opinion and I get bombarded by narutards trying to defend the series. This one socially awkward kid overheard me talking shit about Naruto and cursed me out at the top of his lungs and threatened to kill me. He even wanted to fight me after school. 0_o

I too was a raging narutard back in the day. Got the headbands(all of them), bought dvd's and mangas, dropkicked my sister out of the living room when it came on TV.

But alas, the show lost me around the time they decided to throw in several months worth of filler between the epic battle of Naruto Vs. Sasuke and Shippuden.

I still like it, but i'm not as into it like when I was younger. I mostly read the manga, the anime had too many flashbacks so I stopped watching it.

I still think Sasuke has stupid motives to destroy the village.

However it's my very first anime when I was like 10, and I share good memories with it, and still love it. So I am thinking of re-watching the anime next summer ^^

Ok, I like Naruto but I must admit the anime SUCKS. In my opinion the story is generally good, I don't read the manga so I can't say much about what's happening right now but I've read what appeared on the anime so far and I liked it. The problem with Naruto is the anime, it's like Pierrot doesn't give a fuck about it and just cares to keep releasing shit for stupid narutards to buy it. That's what I hate about it, ALL the fillers make you lose the track of the story, they're dull, stupid and clearly they don't "undestand" the characters or the plot at some aspects. Everytime I watch it (I lke to watch anime first, then read the manga) I feel like they're making fun of me or something, then again I sitll watch it xD. Oh well.
Finally I want to add that the chapter of this week was PERFECT, I loved it, one of the few good episodes in Naruto Shippuden by far.

...Whoa. Rather surprised there really wasn't a Naruto thread before this one. I think the only ones we had before were specific to a character, or just like one scene or something, and they had since been saged or deleted.

Anyway, on topic, I've only watched up to like episode 100ish. I stopped after finding other anime. It was fun while it lasted, but then, I was in middle school.

I was told by my friend that it starts to get good in shippuden, but I'm told otherwise by other people as well. It's not really my cup of tea anymore either way, though.

Any battle manga/anime could potentially be considered mainstream, and fillers are shit in all anime, not just Naruto (like the Bleach bounty arc, my god that made me want to shoot myself in the face). I was such a narutard before, that when I was in school each of my friends and I picked jutsu to use against each other in play fights. Rules were: if you can learn the hand signs by memory to do the jutsu, you could use it.

Oh man, I just remembered me and my friend Briana had a scale of who was the cutest guy character from Naruto. Itachi was the hottie superbomb for the both of us...

I have the first box set of Naruto shippuden and boxset 12 of the original naruto. Hell, I still have my Itachi headband!

A few of my guy friends still watch Naruto Shippuden, I don't watch Naruto anymore. I found out that there are even better animes out there. I have a feeling of respect towards it though, simply because it was my first anime that I knew was an anime and showed me the wonders of watching anime in Japanese with English subtitles. ^_^

I'm a fan, but Naruto has nothing against Bleach. My favorite characters are easily Namikaze Minato and Hatake Kakashi :D I still read the manga though, and OMG the last few episode

But no. I could careless about how much viewers Naruto would bring in. It'd only bring in viewers who want more shows like Naruto, thus because of the drastic raise in viewer base, they would go with what THOSE people wanted. In the end it'd be nothing but crap shows similar to Naruto.

Agreeing with Thiamor here. It's good to have variety, after all, to draw in the biggest crowd - and I wouldn't say no one enjoys Tenchi Muyo or Cowboy Bebop, either. The fact that they keep airing it is a testament to that, is it not?

If Bebop airs on Toonami though that's news to me. I always thought it was Adult Swim. And they don't give up on it for a reason - Bebop is a classic, and you'll find more people that really like it a lot the deeper into the anime subculture you go.

But more on topic, Naruto is kind of a gateway anime. It sees the most popularity here in the states, among people who are only somewhat into anime. It's one of the first ones they try to watch, and it follows all the tropes you'd expect out of typical anime. It's the most general shonen appeal, along with things like Bleach and, to a lesser extent due to its style, One Piece.

But it also sets people up to expect this generic style. It narrows their focus, and prevents them from looking into vastly different genres. That is, if they aren't quickly introduced to those other genres after acclimating to Naruto.

I think what was really special for me about naruto is that feeling of growing up with the characters. It first aired in America during my middle school year when i was around 12 (same age as Naruto and most of the other characters). Then shippuden comes out which adds the few years of training which has everyone growing older, i was in high school by this time and it really felt like when i was growing up with all the characters, that, and Naruto was what i watched after dragon ball Z zoids and what not on toonami.

I love Naruto Shippuden, but Naruto and Sasuke are so overpowered that they arn't in their friend's leagues anymore. Which shows how far hard work can get you and it's awesome, but I love a lot of the Naruto battles from when they are younger. Especially in the ark when they try to retrieve Sasuke.

ONE OF MY FAVE ANIME. Of course, there are some overused tropes here and there, but I just love its artwork and its story. So yeah. I was soooo sad when it ended.

The characters in the original series are a bit on the annoying side yes- same w/the early Shippuden episodes. However later on in the series it gets AMAZING! The characters get 1000x better, the storyline isnt based on Sasuke as much and Naruto becomes quite an admirable character tbh. Naruto is something you have to bare with and you'll be rewarded (at least I was). I need to read the rest of the Shippuden manga as I'm impatiently waiting for the next anime episode! It's definately one of my favourite animes :D

I think it was the best around the "get Sasuke back" arc or whatever it's called around episodes 100+ right up to and including the Sasuke vs Naruto fight. Part 2 never got as good as that for me. I think my favorite was the Sasuke vs Itachi fight, but everything after that seemed to drop in quality and I still haven't finished the Naruto manga after dropping it somewhere during the Shinobi War arc :T

Honorable mention to the Zabuza arc though. Looking back it kind of stands out as a lot more down to earth and emotionally poignant that basically everything that came after it.

I don't know if anyone still checks this thread. But I've been coming up with ideas for a story, a Fan-animation, I guess. I'm not that far inti the series, but j was wondering, is it possible for someone who has had a byakugan (or any dojutsu really) transfered to them from someone else, to have their chakra mess with or modify it. (specifically someone with sound ["wind" I guess, really] chakra getting the byakugan transfered to them. But their body changing ot into an eye that does not SEE 360° around, but "see soundwaves", in the same way that the byakugan sees visually. The "shindogan as I'd call it)

my own fan lore/canon -

I my self came up with my own dojutsu Kekkei genkai, for a "Naruto" RP, in which the dojutsu I came up with was a little bit like the "byakugan" is some ways but more like seeing chakra as a kind of aura around a person or maybe like seeing someone with infrared goggles on, which would also allow the user to see people hiding behind certain objects, and would also Increases the flow and control of all nature chakra.

Think I was calling it the Baikyuugan, the name is a little play words on the fact the dojutsu has 9 diagonal lines in pairs of 3 towards the pupil, the eye colour would be silvery/white with maybe a tint of blue.
