After the conclusion of the War, Aang and Zuko brought people from the four nations together and founded the United Republic, creating Republic City, a large "metropolis powered by steampunk-type technology" such as cars and motorcycles. Aang and Katara had three children, the youngest of which is Tenzin, who has been confirmed to be an Airbender. Meanwhile, Toph Bei Fong traveled extensively to teach Metalbending. After Aang's death, thenext Avatar, Korra, was born to the Southern Water Tribe.

At the present time, seventy years after the end of the War, Korra is a rebellious seventeen year-old girl. As the Avatar, she has already mastered Waterbending, Earthbending and Firebending. She will learn Airbending from Aang and Katara's son Tenzin. Tenzin himself is married; Pema is his wife. Jinora, a "bookworm", and Ikki, a "motor-mouth", are his daughters while Meelo, his youngest child, is his son.
The primary and only confirmed setting is Republic City. Anti-benders called "Equalists", who oppose the arts of bending, utilize techniques such as chi blocking to further their goals of revolution, led by Amon. Korra must fight rampant crime and the anti-bender revolt, assisted by two brothers, Mako, a Firebender, and Bolin, an Earthbender. She is also joined by her animal guide, Naga, and the Metalbending police force of Republic City, who are led by Toph's daughter.

I am excited for this. I have a penchant for being overly excited about a series' potential continuation after finishing what has already been completed in the series. I've been trying to keep myself mostly ignorant so that it would blindside me, and so I wouldn't spend large amounts of time trying to dig up information on it as if I would eventually find leaked media or something dumb.

I'm going to continue doing that - the being ignorant thing, I mean. Avatar was one of my favorite shows - it was executed masterfully, compared to the average western cartoon, or compared to the average story in general. And for that exact reason, after this post, I will refrain from talking about it any further because I'll end up raising my hopes too high to be satisfied by anything :|

Also, if you knew anything about the lore of the show, you would know that it isn't a spoiler that Aang is dead due to the fact that there is only ever one Avatar alive at a time. As this series is focused on a different Avatar after Aang's adventures, by logic Aang must be dead (derp :V).

I'm very excited about this actually, smees it's going to be really good. The only thing I'm not so happy about is the steampunk set up, although I like it, I will surely miss the antique asian world of the original series. It's a huge change but I think they won't mess it up.

in the Last Airbender, the creators had considered making Kataara and Zuko have a /thing/. I was wondering if thats why, in Korra, it seems like theyre having the main waterbender and main firebender have a /thing/?

So much love for Korra. It is easy to see how the artwork has gotten more advanced but still has the same "Avatar" style~ I am very excited for this series!!

Anyway, it was a great episode, but the creators said they wouldn't be doing anything outside of 'republic City', minus the start at the Southern Water Tribe. So if they do venture out of Republic City, I'll be glad. It'd just add in more details and whatnot to it.


Though what I'm waiting on, big time, is when she goes into her 'Avatar State', plus when she ACTUALLY gets to talk with her past lives. I just want to see who they choose to be the voice of older Aang.


I read that the guy who voiced Zuko, will be voicing another character, who is supposed to be related to Zuko, so this all will be interesting.


One more thing. Who thinks Tahno, leader of the Wolfbats in the Pro-Bending Tournament, may be a reoccurring, supporting character in the series?

He just acts, and looks too much like someone who may be returning. He now has a reason to be a supporting character, anyway, due to Korra and her crew, going after Amon, since he took his bending away from him.

There is this theory going around that Tarrlok and Amon are bothers, and Zuko killed their father for trying to overthrow/take over Republic City, because Aang couldn't kill him when he confronted the guy.

Seen quite a few comments about it.

Also it's a possibility, given non benders can still be born into a family of benders. (Amon being the non-bender)


Also for some reason another theory is that Tarrlok has Aang's body, and is Blood Bending it, because he was the only one able to Energy Bend. Which is obviously a stupid idea, and way too dark for a children's show. Let's not also forget, that this is 17 years AFTER he has died. The body would long since be rotted, and gone, basically.

Does anyone else find it annoying that the benders, Including the Badasses like Korra, Aang's son, and Tof,s Daughter are so defenseless against the Equalists? And the only bending I've seen so far is the boxing-Pro Bending Type. I wanna see a battle of epic proportions like the Aang vs. The Fire Lord one.

I have a theory on who Amon is. One of Aang and Katara's Kids, Bumi, was the only one who was unable to bend an element. While both of the other kids were able to bend either water or air. This is why I think Bumi could be Amon, I imagine that he would be angry at least to some degree that he came from the Avatar and a master water bender and couldnt so much make a ripple in the water or a puff of air.

So. My friend had me watching this when I slept over (we went through all the currently released episodes), and I have to admit... It's not compared to the original Avatar. The main characters are all very unlikeable, IMO, even more so than the original's main characters (who were also slightly unlikeable). The story moves very fast, as well, which I'm not a huge fan of. I'll probably keep watching it to see if it gets better.

I don't consider Korra that much like Toph. They've both got smart mouths, but Toph wasn't as lovey and shit. Korra is also more obnoxious, in a way. While Toph was rude, Korra is loud, self-righteous, and egotistical, which Toph was not. (Although she could be loud at times, but still not as loud.)

I also didn't like that they brought romance in right off the bat. I always saw Avatar as an action series with some romance on the side. Even if it does end up more on the side as the story goes on, they still made it such a huge deal right at the beginning.

The romance is interesting for a while but then It gets to the point where I'm just waiting and waiting for some fight to randomly pop up. Korra should be in a pinch during fights, not in an Love triangle. Or square noting that Bolin had a thing for Korra. Still, the show is awesome and I wake up earlier on saturdays just to make sure I don't miss it ^^

Bump Freakin Bump! I'm a Obsessed with Avatar the Last Airbender let alone Legend of Korra! I have been a fan from the very beginning, It's an incredible series. But, I've been told that Legend of Korra is supposed to only be a mini series, and, the season finaly (spelling) is the next episode....I wish/hope they could make it longer!

After watching the finale I have to say that the Legend of Korra is really good. I thought the finale definitely had good surprises and I love what happens at the end (can't say since it is a pretty big spoiler). I can't wait for season 2 XD

Anyone else feel that the ending handle Amon poorly? He's built up to be this faceless badass, but he falls short in the end. Korra recovering her bending also seems a bit sudden to me.

Let's not forget, they keep saying "Season Finale" and not a "series finale".

When a series ends, they always say series finale. When a SEASON ends, they say a season finale.

I don't know where anyone got the idea that this was the end of the series. That would be a series finale, not a season finale. And yes, everywhere you look it up, it's licensed for 2 seasons - that has been the plan since its development.

It felt only a little rushed, primarily towards the very end - but they had to tie up that loose end, I suppose. They don't call it a finale without finalizing things. I personally don't really mind the pacing - if you're comparing to A:TLA, it's only going so much faster because it has no filler, and it's not a world-building story. We're already familiar with all the benders, and they all live in one integrated city; there's no need to spend an entire season exploring the cultures of different nations, which is largely what the previous series consisted of. They went straight to the plot in Korra, with hardly any buffer.

I'm unsure about your taste in things, but it sounds like you just want a bunch of Mary Sues without the flaws you listed. And with that in mind, I am curious what you mean by "it doesn't compare." I mean, I agree, they don't - they're very different series. A:TLA had a lot more silliness, since the main character was a 12 year old boy and the premise for much of the series was traipsing around the world. A:LoK is geared for a slightly older audience, so it has more drama and plot development all at once.

The characters aren't really perfect, and they're definitely more flawed than in A:TLA, but I find that it makes them more developed that way. The characters flaws of Team Aang were superficial at best, while those in Korra seem to have more real problems.

In any case, I just find it unfair to be comparing the series instead of taking it how it is. I know it's only natural to, though, so I can't complain outright.

Okay, all the rumors I have heard about korra says there's only going to be 24 or 26 episodes, does anyone know what the storyline of the show is going to be after the finale? Are they still going to have to go against the Equalists or is it going to be something different?

The only problem I have with show is that the season finale is that a little bit of it seems rushed. It's not their fault though, because they only had twelve episodes to work with but still. Maybe they should have focused less on the romance.

So I went on the Avatar wiki to check things out. Apparently, The Legend of Korra is slated for 52 episodes, 3 more seasons. The second season would air in 2013.

>>238 I wouldnt say Korra's dark at all. The fight scenes (violence if you will) were just choreographed better with realistic movements in mind. There wasn't any blood and gore. The end of Amon dealt with a serious theme which not a lot of kids shows did but I appreciated that,they dont take their viewers for fools.

I was so happy to have finally saw the trailer for Book 2 when it came out. From what I heard of what people said about the first episode and what this new season will have, I just want to watch it already. At least September is only over a month away. Who else is excited to see Book 2: Spirits? I know I am.

I know I'm going to sound like a fan girl here, but can we please discuss the season 2 premiere of this awesome show? If we need to do spoiler warnings before talking about it, fine, just as long as we talk about it. Anyway, this is what I have to say about the first 2 episodes of season 2:

~SPOILER WARNING (aka Don't read if you have yet to see season 2 and don't want anything spoiled)~

Are we good? Okay. I'll begin. I actually thought it was pretty good. They definitely got some information out rather quickly though seeing as how this season is 14 episodes with a one hour special talking about the first Avatar, I guess I can't blame them. Does anyone feel like maybe Korra's dad and Tenzin decided for her to be trained in her home rather than travel because they felt it would be better for her emotional? After all, the other Avatars were basically forced to leave their homes, family, and friends in order to spend YEARS of training to master all four elements. Maybe it's just me, but oh well. The line that Katara said to Tenzin at the end of the episode just hit me right in the feels. I know it was brief, but it just had so much impact on me. I find Bolin and Eska's relationship to be funny. Her lines are just hilarious XD In all honesty, I hope that they do have something special planned for their relationship, like maybe Bolin will teach Eska to see the world differently or something. Also, notice that in the second episode, when Korra came back from that spiritual place in the South Pole, Desna and Eska went from emotionless to straight up mad when Bolin was happy to see her? And I guess it's safe to assume that Korra's (evil) uncle Unalaq is the villain of the series. I mean, those navy ships that they see when they get back at the end. There's no denying it, though I don't know of anyone that thought he wouldn't be a bad guy in the season. So while it may have felt rushed in some areas and maybe even weak in a few others, I still believe that this is a great set-up for what's to come. What do you guys think?

It seems as though my hopes of Bolin and Eska have been crushed with the recent episode. Oh well, at least everything else seems to be pretty good so far. I felt Korra was a little better in this episode. Still flawed, but better than in the first two episodes. I really liked the interaction between Tenzin and his siblings. I know people aren't too happy that Aang played favorites, but I think that scene shows us that just because you're a great character, that doesn't mean you won't have faults. I felt that each of them brought legitimate reasons to be upset and it just felt real.

I know this is really behind... Somehow I missed out on the first four episodes of season two...
Now I just gotta get caught up!

... On season one... this series was very good in its own right, but it is a spinoff. The ending of the Book 1 AIR was nowhere near as "avatar-ey" as the ending to WATER. Water book was EPIC, its themes were compelling, and the drama was great. AIR was, well, a little less profound, standard anime fare. I expected it to be a great deal darker than the original, and it was somewhat; but it was slow at all the wrong places. The world (the city) was not very well explored - the leaders were spineless, incompetent and unimportant; the big bads were really much too strong. Deus-ex-machina galore. The story escalated abruptly and it lacked the driving plot which made The Last Airbender so solid. It was much more mundane, much less fantastical. And so bureaucratical.
... It was very fun to watch, though inferior in almost all respects. A real pity... I know it was supposed to be a standalone project, but still...

I miss the originals. I missed the episodic plot, the new-character-and-character-development-per-episode formula; the romance which was far more secondary and less dramatic, the heartwarming scenes, the funny segments (Avatar almost, at times, ran in comedy skits). The villains weren't as fleshed out - and there were only 2 of them - both were self-important, arrogant asses with OP bending ability that made their battles irrelevant; the ending was UNDERWHELMING for many reasons...

Am I the only one that feels thus?

Legend of Korra is a mixed bag for me, I love it but it's no last airbender.
That being said there really is no replacing the first series, it's a very unique animal. It is very rare for me to find a "kids show" with a well written, well paced and with characters who were so enjoyable. There really is no replacing it, and thats because just about everything hit where it was supposed to hit. To come from that with a character who is almost the exact opposite of Aang, is very hard to swallow. Thats not to say Korra is a bad character, but I don't think she is the strongest in her cast.

In all honesty, I'd rather wait until Korra is finished to compare it to the original series, but even then that's kind of hard. The reason why I say it's hard is because I think that Legend of Korra is very good in its own right. While my opinion is subject to change and this is only speaking for what's been released so far, I'm going to be the first one to say it: I love Legend of Korra as much as I do ATLA. Yes, the plot does feel rushed and some of the characters don't appear to have gotten a lot of development but here's why I think it's a great show. The characters are very relatable and when they feel something you understand where it is they're coming from. Even if you don't like some of the characters, you're bound to know someone like that character or maybe you're going through something similar in the show. When Korra experiences fear for the first time, you can see why she does because all she's ever been used to is being physically strong and has never faced a real threat she couldn't handle. Mako, while it's true that he can come off as a jerk, he does act like a typical teenage boy when it comes to girls. On one hand, Korra was someone he felt a little more comfortable around while on the other Asami was more attractive to him and they were able to relate to one another when it came to losing their moms. Bolin, he's just an all-around sweetheart that tries to keep a more optimistic outlook on things. While it does have him come off as just a typical comedic relief character, he still faced his own problems especially, when you really think about it, there isn't much for him to do and he just wants to fit in. Asami, a character that many people consider to not have been fleshed out much was the one making the one of the biggest and hardest decisions of her life: standing up for what's right even if that meant going against her own father. I could go on and on about the other characters, though if I do, I'll just make another post dealing with them. Overall, I think that Korra is, so far, just as good as the original.

I think it's time I talked about the recent episodes. I'll start off with The Sting as that one has yet to be brought up in this thread. I won't spoil what happens, but let's just say there's a huge character revelation with Varrick. I like Varrick. He's funny and has shown to stand up for what he believes in. He might come off as too eccentric, but he's an all-around nice guy. But then episode 6 happened.......

Let's move along to the episodes that we were all waiting for: Beginnings Parts 1 and 2. Is it sad for me to say that I was kind of disappointed with this one hour special? Don't get me wrong, I still like it for what it is and it is a really good back story as to how the first Avatar came to be along with some really nice art work. The characters weren't even bad and it does serve its purpose for being a part of Book 2. I just thought it was too rushed. I think they could have taken more time to develop Wan along with the world he was living in. While I did feel sad at one scene that was near the end of the special, everything else felt like it was in a hurry. Even the time span in which Wan has to save the world feels a bit hurried. Some of the scenes that should have had a big impact on me didn't. Truthfully, those weren't the best episodes in Book 2 or even in Korra as a whole. This wouldn't be a problem if it weren't for the fact that we're talking about the story of the first Avatar. At minimum, these should have been my favorite Book 2 episodes. Sadly, they weren't. I still like these episodes, but they are pretty disappointing when you think about the hype surrounding them.

Yo like I stopped caring a while ago so...

Question... Does anyone else ship Korra and Tahno? I know Tahno didn't have all the much screen time (I am hoping he returns) but something about the ship is more likable in my opinion then Mako and Korra. I started shipping Mako and Korra but I stopped because there just wasn't anything there. I feel like the writers just rushed the romance with them and I thought it was weird that right after they met they start dating. Also I feel like there is much character development in the show in general except for characters like Asami, because you see her background and also how she was basically betrayed by her father. Gotta admit,The ending really shocked me in that one..When the Spirit Cannon blew up I was thinking 'OMG THEY NUKED REPUBLIC CITY!' Then it sucks back in like the Freya on Code Geass, and finally, it became a portal! I mean...wow..just wow. Does this mean a super nuke would create a new spirit portal?(Aang already showed he can make atomic clouds by just hitting the ground hard in the desert...so super nuke,not regular..)

Ok so, I've never watched Legend of Korra but I love Avatar the last airbender, I'm almost finishing rewatching it, and very soon LoK is coming to Netflix but I don't know why, I don't feel very confident about it, I just have that feeling, like, is it good? As good as the last airbender? I know that I cannot expect that it's going to be as good as it but to all of those who have watched it can please tell me if it's decent or if it's enjoyable?
