The rules of alchemy state that to gain something, one must lose something of equal value. Alchemy is the process of taking apart and reconstructing an object into a different entity, with the rules of alchemy to govern this procedure. However, there exists an object that can bring any alchemist above these rules, the object known as the Philosopher's Stone. The young Edward Elric is a particularly talented alchemist who through an accident years back lost his younger brother Alphonse and one of his legs. Sacrificing one of his arms as well, he used alchemy to bind his brother's soul to a suit of armor. This lead to the beginning of their journey to restore their bodies, in search for the legendary Philosopher's Stone.

Here we go, ladies and gentlemen, one of the most over-hyped shows of the 21st Century.
Sorry, to start off with a bit of an insult, however this show was so hyped up to me that people were physically hurt by the fact that I had not seen it. So when I finally got around to it (Some years later), it didn't live up to the hype. Now, its re-make however, was amazing.

Full Metal Alchemist Brotherhood

Ha! and the Brotherhood thread is basically some guy spazzing. Excuse me while I let my spite flow.

Buy anyway, if you're talking hype and disappointment, it was basically the other way around for me.

Not that I didn't go into BH really willing to love it and I actually did enjoy it hella much, but after I let the dust settle and drew the line, there was only one that really got me in all the right ways. Maybe if I would have watched them the other way around, things would be reversed, who even knows.

But for now I'm on the FMA1 side, even though there's not many of us left. Because no matter ow popular this show used to be a few years ago, now it's hardly as relevant in the anime world as it used to be. Not that people are getting the bad part of the deal by watching BH, not at all, it just pains me to see how so many believe this version has absolutely nothing to offer simply because it isn't 'the original'.

Full Metal Alchemist really is an incredible anime. The story is great, the characters are great, and the drama and emotion put into it is really amazing. It definitely is one of my favorite animes. Truth be told, I consider the original series better than Brotherhood. I think Brotherhood was okay and although the animation and action were better than the original, I just don't feel the same emotion as I did with the first series.

I remember watching the first one when I was 10.... and then Brotherhood when I'm now 17... I would probably watch the first one again b/c I'll probably have another opinion on it. But it still doesn't change the fact that I liked FMA when I first watched it at 10 years old and then also liked Brotherhood when I first watched it at 17. So I probably like them equally right now. All I can say is I'm a sucker for good plots.... and the two were one of those that top my anime chart.

I personally like the first one better, but both did get me pretty emotional especially at Hues' funeral. Although I did like the fact that it wasn't exactly the same, like with the fighting so that I got to watch a whole different fight almost. I like them both a lot! :3

Seven-Deadly Sins were in it too. Sloth, Wrath, Envy, Greed, Pride, Gluttony and Lust in Fullmetal Alchemist may look also different in Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood.

I liked the original better. It felt like it was an unpredictable story and could go from good to complete shit storm in no time, just like how it does in real life kinda.

Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood is a fucking A! I didn't star crying at the end of episode 65 or 64 in 2009 and 2010. But Fullmetal Alchemist on 2003? Too much episodes but this one's better.

"How are ya, Fullmetal pipsqueak?"

I loved both to be honest. I liked that the 2003 version took a completely different route from the manga sort of like an alternate timeline or "What if" story line. The Brotherhood saga is also great because it sticks pretty closely to the manga with it's own little pieces here and there. :)

Fullmetal and Brotherhood are classics which I would highly recommend. It may sound cheesy, but those animes taught me things that I still put in use today. It also helped me deal with my fear of death and learn to start accepting it.
I think that the original was great considering they didn't know where Hiromu Arakawa (author of the manga) intended it to go, and the ending was great.
However I like Brotherhood a little more and I think it definitely did the manga justice.

I just finished FMA. I really thought that FMA Brotherhood was a sequel. I want to know what happen to Ed and Al. Sigh~ at least it was worth the watch. I don't think I watch Brotherhood any time soon. It won't be fun to have both end up mashing and messing the plot in my head.

Brotherhood is the better version since it's the actual, true plot. Plus you'll not get the plot mashed into your head, confusing you. The plots are so widely, vastly differing, that it'd impossible to get confused by watching both.

It'd be*

>>40 I tried watching it, and yeah it didn't mess up, it differs alot. But I not use seeing the character that are supposed to be dead, alive and kicking.

This anime was truly amazing, fullmetal alchemist was good, then there is the brotherhood one which was way more awesome cause it was base on the manga as to where the first one was not

I will continue to be frustrated about '03 vs. Brotherhood arguments until my 100th birthday.

yeah. I remember the first time I watch fullmetal alchemist. it was good but the ending left more to desire or should I say disappointing. when I read the manga, I was so surprise on how different it was compared the first anime. It was so much better and satisfying. it is great that Brotherhood was finaly created.
