Set in a family restaurant in Hokkaido, the northern prefecture of Japan, 16 year old high school student Takanashi Souta works part-time along with his strange co-workers: Taneshima Poplar, a high school girl who's a year older than Souta and easily mistaken for an elementary/middle schooler, and Shirafuji Kyouko, the 28-year old store manager who doesn't bother to do any work at all.
Working!! is a slice-of-life anime about the employees of a family restaurant, Wagnaria. And... that's just about it for the story. There's not much plot (if there is any), and for the first few episodes, each scene practically has nothing to do with the next, filled with the most random conversations. The characters are introduced, and it's as if the 'plot' is being set up. For the second half of the anime, this is when the episodes seem more linear, giving each episode a solid story, instead of giving it just the random scenes we saw in the start. The story seems to start to focus on Inami's phobia of men and how Takanashi tries to help her overcome it. Despite the fact that it now has a story that it sticks to, it's still a very light-hearted, and never touches into anything deeper than comedy. The plot never moves, and even after the last episodes, nothing has changed between the characters. HOWEVER, I still thoroughly enjoyed myself. What I expected to be a filler show, turned out to be very entertaining. You should give this a shot, its worth it in my opinion. Also Season 2 is currently airing, and its pretty excellent so far.

Bump, because I just started watching season 2.
And I'm pleased to say...that its awesome. The production value went WAYYYYY up, much like everything this season. That is a good thing by the way, and it's just as funny, if not funnier, than the first season.

Fucking Christ, I just realized why this show struck such a cord with me.
My health class in school last year consisted of:
-A dorky kid with glasses that still collected dolls
-A short girl that whined a lot about her height
-A girl that looked like Inami but thankfully didn't have any random male punching sprees
-A teacher that never worked (Which worked for us)
-A person that, regardless, still clung around said teacher that never worked
-A really annoying girl who didn't always do work, but when she did, she failed miserably
-A kid with blond hair that smoked
-And a creepy-ass stalker that knew everyone's business
Granted it was a full size class, so there were a good 20 other normal people, but still. Jesus.
I almost can't take this show seriously now.
