I'll just copy and paste from Wikipedia: Yukio, known by his friends as "Koyuki", is a regular 14-year-old Japanese boy who enters junior high school with two childhood acquaintances. One is a pervert, and ironically the other is a highly sought after female student. Koyuki's boring life is changed when he saves an odd-looking dog, named Beck, from some kids. Beck's owner turns out to be an emerging rock musician, Ryūsuke Minami, who soon influences Koyuki to start playing the guitar, and even gives one to him. The story focuses on the trials and tribulations of their rock band named BECK, and Koyuki's relationships with the members of the band, in particular Ryûsuke Minami and his sister, Maho Minami.
With this anime, I highly recommend the dub, which is very good. Because it's focus is music, there is quite a bit of singing. And, at least for myself, the English singing (mostly by Justin Cook and Greg Ayres, who can sing like a mofo) was much nicer to my ears than the Japanese singers singing Engrish.
There was also a live-action film made, but I have yet to see it (I dunno if it's been subbed yet).

ANYWHO, I loved this series, and while you highly recommend the dub, I HIGHLY recommend the Japanese dub, mainly because dat engrish made it sooooo much funnier and more realistic. Also, I much preferred the singing in Japanese, for it was much easier to listen to IMO. Anyway I'm glad that the thread for this was nicely made, thanks Sejin.

I did watch the Japanese dub as well, and I think my favorite part of it was when Ryusuke and Maho were talking and they just kept saying 'fuck' so emphatically lol.
Do you know if anyone's done a decent sub of the live-action movie?

I loved this anime so much, it's so inspiring... I learned guitar because of this. anyways, there's a live action movie on this and i watched it the other day as well, the only thing I didn't like was that when koyuki sang in the movie they didn't let anyone hear his voice, i guess, they couldn't find a super good voice for the part so they just took it out all together and made it seem like it was super good that they had to mute everything (except the music) just to capture the moment.

Yes, I love this anime. The music is really good, because like Mael said, dat engrish. I wish someone made a second season with the rest of the manga, which is A LOT. About 20 volumes or so.

Well in this case, they are correct. There aren't many good music shows around, however this happens to falls into that small category. It did a wonderful job of getting me attached to the characters, interested in the plot-line, and by the end, loving the music. You should watch it Kao, but watch it in Japanese, for da Engrish. ;D

I watched Beck the beginming of this year and its one of the best anime I have seen, it also make you allmost want to pick up a guitar :3

I LOVE Beck Mongolian Chop Squad. Not only are the characters cool and fun, but the songs are awesome. :D "Moon on the Water", "Face", "Slip Out", "Like a Foojin", and "Spice of Life" are some of my favorites. I've yet to see the live action movie, out of curiosity.
