I'm surprised there is so much talk about this show, but nobody has bothered to even post a review about it. Wait...I'm not surprised.

Okazaki Tomoya is a delinquent who finds life dull and believes he'll never amount to anything. Along with his friend Sunohara, he skips school and plans to waste his high school days away.

One day while walking to school, Tomoya passes a young girl muttering quietly to herself. Without warning she exclaims "Anpan!" (a popular Japanese food) which catches Tomoya's attention. He soon discovers the girl's name is Furukawa Nagisa and that she exclaims things she likes in order to motivate herself. Nagisa claims they are now friends, but Tomoya walks away passing the encounter off as nothing.

However, Tomoya finds he is noticing Nagisa more and more around school. Eventually he concedes and befriends her. Tomoya learns Nagisa has been held back a year due to a severe illness and that her dream is to revive the school's drama club. Claiming he has nothing better to do, he decides to help her achieve this goal along with the help of four other girls.

Clannad A/S

As Tomoya spends more time with the girls, he learns more about them and their problems. As he attempts to help each girl overcome her respective obstacle, he begins to realise life isn't as dull as he once thought.

Events in After Story take place immediately after the first season, following Tomoya's final semester of high school. After declaring his love to Nagisa, they begin to have a close relationship. Their life together will be faced with unexpected challenges, as the truth behind the illusionary world and the city's legend come to light.

This Show is hands down the most tear-jerking show I have ever watched. Not so much Clannad, but After Story made my heart sink sooooo lowwww. The build up from Clannad got me emotionally attached to the characters, in a way I didn't think was possible. Then when After Story came around, I felt like the creator wanted me to feel dead inside. But all in all, this was indeed, as IZU's post unanimously agreed upon, one of the most touching anime's of all time. Still, I'm still surprised at how much the show differed from my initial expectations going into it (with no information whatsoever). Opening credits made it seem like another harem-shit series, but the first episode won me over as being anything but.

Also, those scenes where Fuko shows up unexpectedly? They occur in the VN after you trigger certain flags by completing Fuko's route. Seriously, with all the bizarre stuff.

Finally, for people on both extremes of the dub v sub debate, Clannad exists in both. Personally, as someone who enjoys both dubs and subs I found the sub to be higher quality, but the dub is watchable and isn't horrible with translating the puns. Or, at least the dub episodes I watched weren't.

Clannad, and Cannad: After Story, are the only anime my mother's ever watched with me (She dislikes anime in general rather alot), but she admitted that she did like them and might watch another anime like that if I found one.

Clannad, both in it's Visual Novel and Anime incarntaions, caused me to become quite spellbound and overall catches me up in the emotion of the storyline every time I've watched it.

If you haven't gotten around to watching it quiet yet, I do reccomend you give it a shot when you have some free time.

Such a good show. manly tears were shed towards the end.

i will never get over the after story. it made me cry until i flooded the streets. Clannad is definitely the best anime i've ever seen. the masterpiece changed my life completely and is the only series i watched that moved me to such high levels. i loved the plot, the characters, the animation, the music, and everything else.

This anime. It changed my life.
It's gotta be my absolute favorite, and I've seen my fair share of great ones. This one takes the gold. I love it subbed or dubbed. The voices don't even matter, the storyline is so amazing. It's not often I say that. It's the first anime to ever make me cry; I'm a tough cookie, so kudos to Clannad <3

Tomoya. ALL MEN should be like Tomoya. I would MARRY Tomoya if I could. His looks, while appealing, aren't what gets to me. It's how down-to-earth he is, how honest and devoted to Nagisa and Ushio. Just...asfgsakhfgsakh. No words. Fantastic anime.

Only 5 eps into afterstory and my only question is is there only one season of both? Netflix does a bad job of having everything.
Also for anyone who watched the dubbed, is it just me or did at least 3 voices change from original to afterstory

This anime gave me a goal in life because like Tomoya, I see no joy in life. I felt no need to focus on school, hated going home and just repeated it over and over again. After I finished this story, I found a goal in life: To find my true love and have a family. It'll be difficult in this culture of lust over love but I won't enjoy life until I do.

I have a question though. Who is the real main, main character? Is it Tomoya for its his point of view that the anime focuses on tremendously, or is it Nagisa for the anime circles around her.

Watched this all in 2 days and have never cried so much in my life. Humor was great as well.

Clannad was great fun. Clannad After Story was the most dramatic tragedy i've ever experienced. Clannad is not an anime you'd want to rewatch.

This was the first anime I ever watched with subs and to this day still one of my favorites.

love this anime. I almost never cry, but I cried a lot in After Story (watched it all in 1 day).

The First series is ok and is more of a generic set up for After Story which is an emotional baseball bat to the stomach. What everyone is saying is true , this one will make you cry ALOT.

Its impressive how this series handled serious subject matter it did. This is what slice of life needs to be more like.

And because no comment section is complete without it I must recommend Ano Hana to anyone who loved Clannad. Everyone who likes Ano Hana recommended Clannad and it met all my expectations so if you haven't , try checking out Ano Hana. You get the same crying and friendships and beautiful music all in 11 episodes.

Oh, how I loved watching this anime. Has to be my favorite ever, simply because of how emotionally impactful it was.

The visual novel it's based off of is just as awesome and sad. I highly suggest getting it if you can.

Fun fact: Clannad (and quite a few other Key works) follow a format devised by Key called a nakige, or crying story. The idea is to make the reader emotionally attatched to the characters through comedy in the first portion; after that, they then make the reader respect the characters by having them do something honest and inspiring. They do all of this buildup in order to make the tragic ending sooo much more saddening.

Of course, the more tragic the story, the more powerful the catharsis. Which is why, the first time you watch this, you'll cry at the end of After Story because you're so happy.

If you haven't watched Clannad and Clannad After Story, do it now. It's 49 episodes that you'll never forget, ever.

Seriously, the only show to EVER make me cry.

I couldn't make it past episode 10. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure I would cry as well, and that the story is great. But those eyes. The size of the moon, and their mouths... So small.
Face design basically killed it for me.

So uhhh... I kind of cheated, and read an episode guide. I'm kind of glad I did. That kind of depressing story would mess up my thought process, and I wouldn't be able to think about happy things for quite a while.

This is a frigging masterpiece. I love it. Daisuke. Some shows are epic, some are cool, or entertaining, while others just have a great plot. In my professional opinion, I'd say Clannad is just f*ucking beautiful. Amen

While I was watching After story my eyes were really wet for some reason I do not understand.

This anime is a freaking emotional roller-coaster. One minute I'm laughing my head off, then I'm crying rivers, then I'm laughing again as if nothing sad ever happened.

This anime is fucking boring.

And just not good in general, too.

Is there anything, live action, korean drama, anime, TV show, movie, or whatever that is better than Clannad? I'm not talking about shows like Code geass or Baccano cuz they're a completely different genre. I'm trying to fill Clannad's void so I need any type of film that has a similar if not greater emotional impact than Clannad
