WHY ISN'T THERE ALREADY A THREAD FOR THIS?!

Kara no Kyoukai is based around a teenage girl named Ryougi Shiki, who possesses the 'Mystic Eyes of Death Perception', a supernatural ability that allows the user to see the "death" of everything in existence and kill the object by destroying its origin. It is a series of 7 movies that are based in the TYPE MOON universe (Fate/Stay Night, Tsukihime, Melty Blood, etc.) and was initially supposed to be a prelude to Tsukihime. Each and every one of these movies is amazing, but Mugen Rasen, movie 5, is by far my favorite. The animation is amazing, the characters are amazing, the story is amazing, and this anime is amazing. Give it a shot or I'll stab you (am i kidding?). Let me know what ya think! :)

There's a lot of awesome anime that don't have threads (yet).

Anyway, I've only watched the first movie of the series and I have to say I wasn't all that impressed. I know it's supposed to be one of the not so good ones (mainly because it starts in the middle of things and leaves the viewer very confused) and that the next ones only get better, but I haven't felt the need to watch any of the rest after finishing the first one.

I've heard positive reviews everywhere so I may get back to it, but at the moment I have other things on my list.

Yeah, i thought the same thing, in fact, I watched the first movie and wasn't completely sold, so i ended up putting it off for like 2 months. Eventually i finally got around to starting it back up again and man, it was worth it.

Suddenly, Anime is filled with interesting threads.

Mugen Rasen - Or Paradox Spiral, depending on your translation preference, by far left my speechless in amazement. I think at some point my mind just gave up and sat back going "ffffffffff-" for the rest of the movie.

To add some more detail onto Kara no Kyoukai, or Rakkyo - depending on your naming preference - This is the first series of novels that Nasu wrote, it held the initial character design for Tohno Shiki, who would later go on to be a much less awesome and wimpy counterpart to Ryougi Shiki who is to the fandom as Archer was to the fandom - Capable of turning the same gender homosexual out of pure awesome.

Looking closely allows the type-moon fans to catch alot of the early archetypes present in this series. From Touhsaka Rin in fate/stay-night, to Akiha Tohno in Tsukihime. It also gives a more tied together feel to the universe itself.

The story is told anachronistically, which I believe increases the feel of the movie... and more on that in a moment. Due to its story telling style, by watching them in the order released, you slowly find pieces of the puzzle falling into place - leading up to a finale that is simply breath taking.

Spoilers possibly ahead though:

---------
From the flashes shown to you during Paradox Spiral/Mugen Rasen, you see that Ryougi was able to view all sorts of times and places while she was confined by the monk.

Taking this into account, and realizing that technically Paradoz Spiral was the second to last installment - not counting the epilogue - You can then see that the entire story is actually Ryougi reliving these experiences haphazardly during her confinement as she's trying to escape.

Further more, I believe her confinement like that was what gave her third personality the grounding to completely awaken - and thus we learned in the Epilogue that she has the canon power to erase and rewrite reality at a whim - Since she is the ----.

----------
spoilers ending here.

Anyway, I can't praise this series enough. The fights, the visuals, the story line, its all quite amazing.

Well, ufotable did a pretty good job with this one, the only thing that makes me want to puke is that the 1080p Blu-Ray is an FUCKING UPSCALE with tons of filters, with the initial price of $300 for the whole box I kinda bet they could easily pull off the same shit as SHAFT did with Bakemonogatari (ie. redrawing everything from scratch), otherwise I have no complaints about the movie adaptation of the novels.
On a side note, ufotable is also doing Fate/zero this year, if they fuck it up like DEEN fucked up Fate/stay night then I am going there to kick their asses myself :>

If UFOtable draws Fate/Zero like they did Rakkyo, then I will become an avid followers of anything they put out.

Despite the fact that it's in a messed-up order and kind of hard to follow at first, it is an amazing series, and the artwork is superb! I mean, there were times when I wondered if it was a photograph of a room and not artwork haha xD. My fiance and I loved this series, and I'm surprised that it's related to Melty Blood and Tsukihime - Thanks for that bit of info!

I was going to finally get around to watching this series.
And then when I went to my anime folder to look for it, I remembered I only recovered 1, 3, 4, and 6 after one of my "good friends" decided to delete my entire anime folder at a LAN a few months back.

Time to start torrenting.

When I first watched these movies, my mind was blown. I'd seen a lot of anime at that point, some from every genre, and it all starts to pail in comparison to this piece of epicness. The music, the fighting, the blood, it all screams awesome! And for that alone, this is one of the only series I can give solid 10/10 scores to every single time.
Oh, and this was also my first real exposure to Yuki Kajiura, and I'll be damned if I don't cheer up when that name shows up connected to something now >.>

"Too late, She's already here"

Mmm, 'dat Shiki.
Easily the most OP character I've ever seen.
The animation in this show was perrrrfectly done. I loved Touko, and Mugen Rasen was easily one of the craziest mind-coasters I've ever experienced.

I got this on DVD and watched it recently and I was completely floored. I've only watched it once so far (minus the epilogue; I've watched that twice), and I don't completely understand some of it (yet), but it's easily already at the very top of my favorite anime, contending with a few others for the top spot. To say it's absolutely amazing is a huge understatement. It has literally everything I like in anime (with one exception--comedy, but trying to be truly comedic would have ruined it, so I don't hold that as a mark against it), and nothing that I dislike in anime.

Subs for Mirai Fukuin are out!!! Yaaaaay!!!!!

Well, it's actually just one sub, a fansub to be exact. Here's the link for anyone who's interested: http://animewaffles.tv/Android-Kara-no-Kyoukai-Mirai-Fukuin-Episode-1-English-Subbed-40269. Admittedly, there are a lot of grammatical errors and the guy who subbed it doesn't like to use periods, but that didn't distract me or hinder my experience of watching it at all. The subs capture the overall meaning and feel of the dialogue very well.

Extra chorus, which is a series of three shorts that aired along with Mirai Fukuin in theaters, has also been subbed by a different person. Here's the link to a Tumblr page that has links for both torrenting the subs and for watching it streaming online: http://karanokyoukaithings.tumblr.com/post/78074935074/mirai-fukuin-extra-chorus-english-sub. As far as I can tell, these subs are pretty damn good. I love how the subber uses different colors and fonts for the different characters, and even overlays them at one point during the second short (you'll understand why when you see it). Also, as noted on the Tumblr page I linked to, the subber tried to include the wordplays that don't translate into English by using color, which I thought was well done.

As for the movies themselves, extra chorus is thoroughly enjoyable and is really just a lot of fun to watch. I think Mirai Fukuin is yet another amazing addition to the series, and fits nicely into the timeline, wrapping up a few loose ends and giving a perfectly fitting send-off. I don't want to say any more for fear of spoiling anyone's viewing of it, so I'll just say that if you enjoyed the rest of the series you'll likely enjoy this installment. If you haven't seen the rest of the series, then go watch it, and then watch Mirai Fukuin + extra chorus. Now. You'll be glad you did.

I was initially under the impression that this was the end of the series, but I found out that there was some new written material that was handed out during screenings of Mirai Fukuin when it aired in Japan back in the fall, called Final Record (Shuumatsu Rokuon) - the Garden of Oblivion. Supposedly, it's a short story that expands on the central characters of Mirai Fukuin. I have no idea if this will be adapted into another film. The title gives the strong impression of being the final installment, but at this point there's really no way to know for sure.

Also, according to Wikipedia "A new film is in the works. It is the 10th installment of Kara no Kyoukai called Overlooking View 3D (空の境界 俯瞰風景 3D Kara no Kyoukai: Fukan Fuukei 3D)." Judging from the name, I wonder if this will be a 3D version of the first film, starting off 3D versions of the other films. However, again, there's no way to know at this point.

SHT has hit the fans in Movie 5! The fight scenes are damn awesome! This is really really a Must-watch anime. I'll definitely recommend to those Fate/Stay Night: UBW and Fate/zero fans. THEY MUST WATCH THIS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
