I think it's awesome. They did a good job picking the voice actor. If only they could fix their pronunciation of japanese words...

Pronunciation can't be fixed when it comes to localization - same reason they still used Japanese honorifics instead of nicknames. The story did take place in Japan, after all.

There have been bad dubs, and there have been good dubs. In my opinion, this one lands itself on the "good dub" list, along with Baccano and Fullmetal Alchemist and others. Best cast I've seen - absolutely fantastic choices.

Of course, this will never change the minds of dub haters, because the japanese language is clearly superior to the english one, and dubbers are only out to destroy the hopes and dreams of fans everywhere - no gaijin voice actor even comes close to the skill and grace a true nihonjin performs with, regardless of similar or greater acting ability.

Crispin Freeman as Shizuo- we're done. It's a good dub.

I'm a very stubborn person when it comes to dubs vs. subs; I always watch subbed anime. I've heard some voice clips from the english dub, but I still don't like it that much...

So, I like the dub, but I was watching it today (actually I'm watching it right now) and I realized that they went with the Engrish name of "Nebra" instead of Nebula. They've destroyed the connection to Baccano! But otherwise a very enjoyable dub.

Sure they are good dubs...But since I watched anime in sub the Japanese voices are the ones I retaliate to the character so when watching dub it feels a bit weird

I usually do not tend to watch a lot of dubs anymore cause I find that most just dont come close to comparing to the original. But I have to say that I am actually quite happy with the Durarara english dub. I agree that they messed up on a few things but for the most part I was happy. Johnny as Izaya and Crispin as Shizuo both sound like really good choices to me~ ^.^

Crispin was awesome as Shizu-chan from what I've seen. JYB....idk. I still hear Vash when he talks...

Nah, I'm bringing this back from the dead to give my input. I watched the dub and absolutely adored it. I feel like literally every character's lines were absolutely perfect in regards to delivery, even minor characters. So what if the essence of Japanese culture (what the fanboys/girls scream about while wanking off to caricatures of the show) and a couple of mispronounciations here and there. All in all, it was one hell of a performance.

I tip my hat to Pat Seitz for the comical Simon Brezhnev, as well as the witty narrations in episode three. JYB was pure evil as Izaya, Crispin Freeman was as sarcastic as ever, and Michelle Ruff had just the right level of timidness and monotone (drawing from aspects of both her Yuki Nagato and Tsukasa Hiiragi roles). Kari Wahlgren did an excellent rendition of Celty, using the right amount of passion when needed, and the right amount of anger when needed ("WELL DON'T BRAG ABOUT IT!"). I could go on, but you get the idea.

Honestly i think this has the best dub cast out of any other, aniplex realy went out of there way to cast some near perfect roles. It was on par with the japanese cast imo.

I've been converting the anime and making it look like movies and stuff, so it's like. three episodes in one. and english and junk.

I used to have it ;-; but i don't anymore. I wish I still had it. But I heard it has been on Adult Swim where they have the english version now you check it out on their site.

personally i loved the dub. i thought all the VAs fit their characters really well, i'm really happy that it got such a quality cast as opposed to a lot of other animes out there. :)

I think the eng dub of durarara is amazing and on par with the jp dub

I love the dub. I think it's one of the best overall dubs I've ever heard, and I watch almost everything in dub, so I've heard A LOT lol. I really liked Johnny's Izaya. It seemed kinda reminiscent of his Hollow Ichigo voice, but added a bit of mischievousness, which seems to fit perfectly.

Sounded mostly like lelouch actually... Not a bug fan if bleach so not sure what ichigos hollow sounds like...

I thought the english dub was "alright", but I still prefer to watch it in Japanese; only if im to lazy to read or change the DVD settings to Japanese will I watch it in dub.

I loved the english dub, it's the reason I'm here now. I felt the anime ended too soon. I wonder what happens to everyone past the last episode.

I usually prefer subs, but this is the one of the few that I actually prefered the dubs. Don't know why.

I kinda feel like I'm being annoying by bringing this up again, but I might as well throw out my opinion.

I really liked Shizuo and Izaya's casting. I think those two were brilliant. Shinra was also well-cast, but that's because those three voice-actors in particular are ridiculously skilled and very good at throwing themselves into different characters.

Ah... but that aside, a few of the voices grew on me. The VAs really seemed to grow into their roles as the series went on. By the middle, the dub was doing really well.

But otherwise, dub vs sub doesn't really matter. Some series are better dubbed and others are better subbed. I prefer Eureka seveN dubbed, but I can't even imagine watching Law of Ueki dubbed

Ew, ew, ew. Everytime I hear the english dubs, I wanna tear my ears off of my head. They were all so horrible, they only ones I found bearable was Izaya's, and that's only because I was used to hearing the voice actor in Haruhi.

That said, I really like the dub but prefer the sub simply because it's what I started watching first and I relate the characters with the original voice actors.

Just finished it. In dub. I LOVED the cast. Steve Blum, Crispin Freeman, Johnny Bosch, AND Yuri Lowenthal? YES. So well done. Such a collage of sexilicious voices ;] I'd have to say Izaya is my favorite character. Even when he was a complete douche....aka, all the time. I'm not the fangirl that wants Shizaya action. I'd like Orihara all to myself ;) a rather unique villain, though in the end I found myself attached to almost every character. I had NO IDEA what was going on when I first started watching...but it all worked out :) overall, I'd give it five stars.

Dararara = a epic win

Johnny Yong Bosch, Yuri Lowenthal, Kari Whalgren, Crispin Freeman, and (even if he's a minor character) Spike Spencer. With those five VAs in it, a dub instantly loses any and all chance of suckitude.

Am I the only one who hated that you could instantly tell who EVERYONE'S voice was? :/ The only voice I didn't know was Kida's but that's because that VA is fairly new and hasn't done much else.

I adore dubs but I felt Durarara's was... lacking.

You have it all wrong.

They pick "famous" voice actors here because voice acting is in low demand, and low supply, in the anime dubbing community. You pretty much know who all the anime dubbers are in America compared to in Japan, where the source content is actually made and in high demand.
And even with that in mind, it's insulting to say that casting directors in the dubbing companies don't try their best to find fitting voices. Even in Japan, sometimes famous voice actors will get priority over no-name actors. No matter what part of the world you're in, that's just how business works.

Its actually better than the sub but only in some parts. Ive always loved Shinras VA (cant remember his name) and the same with mikado but if there is one part of the dub i really REALLY HATE its Izaya. FUCK YOU JOHNNY let me repeat FUCK OFF JYB get out NOW! but besides that its pretty good.

for me i prefer understanding what they are saying, thats why i dont like watching anime in its proprer language.

to be honest, my only complaint about the english dubbing of Durarara is that they didn't manage to get the same voice actors for Issac and Miria as the ones in Baccano!

I prefer dubs so that I can actually understand what the people are saying. Subs are fine, but if it's dubbed, I prefer it. If it's not dubbed, I'll watch it in subs. That's what I did with Tales of the Abyss.(Still wish they dubbed it, Jade's english voice actor makes everything more hilarious.)

I agree. The dub team did a very good job. Izaya, Shizuo, Mikado, and even Walker and Erika, and more. And I also prefer dub over sub. When I'm checking an anime at anime planet, I always see to it that there's an english dubbed on the anime that I'm checking before I go search the download links for it.

And I also love Isaac and Miria's dubbers in Baccano! Also Firo's dubber, suits him great. My favorite part on Baccano! is the part where Isaac and Miria is lining up dominoes, then Firo comes. Makes my day. :DD

I hope they make a season 2. I loved watching izaya make trouble for everyone.

Man this anime get's more interesting towards the end. I'm currently at ep22. I wonder what will happen to Anri, Mikado and Masaoumi. The guys in the Yellow Scars are just asking for Shizo to go after Masaouni. How dare they stab him. Izaya well I'll just have to sit back and watch the events just like you.

Oh gosh, this is my favorite anime by far! And I agree, sometimes their syllable pronunciation is slightly off, and Darrel Guilbeau (Mikado's voice actor), however awesome he may be, still struggles to say his own character's name, "Ryugamine." Although the story and beauty of the art greatly makes up for it...this is an amazing show.

I think that original japanese audio is still the best. I treasure Kida's voice & how playful it is. But of course, not all prefer the original audio. So I guess the dubbed version is not that bad.

Between the manga and anime, which is a closer adaption of the LN? I know that the anime made Mikado, well, nicer, and that the second arc was kind of botched. What about the manga?
