what are some anime that first got you into the stuff? what would you show someone who is curious about anime but hasn't seen much to any? but be careful how you spread the love.

First one that I really really liked was the first FMA anime. It was just amazing (and then the 2009 series was even more amazing, but that's not the point).

The first one that got me into watching anime online was Haruhi though, it introduced me to the idea of "this is awesome I have to watch all of it in one night".

i must admit tht i liek the horror animes more than any other ones... buut i guess in terms of shoujo... kobato and air were good ones~ cute but not overly cute to the point where it makes u want ta puke (~=3=)~

my first anime was when i was really young somewhere around 7 years of age or younger: yu yu hakusho, doraemon, mojakou, monster rancher, the sound of music, case closed, lupin III, sailor moon, dragonball, gundam, and there's a ton more i cant remember.

Well, when I was really young, I loved anime. Stuff like Pokemon, Digimon, Sailor Moon, Yugioh, Beyblade, Dragonball, Dragonball Z, Shaman King, et cetera..
I watched it constantly up until the 6th grade, then kind of phased out, because I had only ever known anime for 'kids shows', and I felt that I wasn't a kid anymore I guess (although I would still try to catch FMA and Death Note when it was airing on YTV).
But the show that I guess got me back into anime, and into downloading shows, following subgroups, and all the stuff that comes with it now would be NGE.

TL;DR
I watched a bunch of anime as a kid, but Evangelion is what really got me into it.

When I was a kid I would watch Dragonball Z, Pokemon, Digimon, Yu-Gi-Oh!, Sailor Moon, Yu Yu Hakusho, and Rurouni Kenshin.

Nothing really caught me until I watched FSN.
Since then, I've been hooked.

Mine was Pokemon and Conan-Cased Closed, but I didn't really get "into" anime until I was older and watched Fullmetal Alchemist and Miyazaki's movies. Yeah, I was a little late.

I think the first i time ever saw anime was when i was in the UAE when I was 6 years old and it was an English dubbed version of dragon ball. I didn't understand it because I only spoke tagalog at that time but i was instantly hooked. I would sit there and watch it having no idea what was going on and my mom would translate it for me. Years later, when I immigrated to America, I was visiting a friend's house early in the morning and he was like."DUDE POKEMOM is about to start!"

I watched it with him and I have been hooked on anime ever since...

I went from Pokemom to Digimon to Gundam Wing, to Sailor Moon, to Zoids, to Tenchi Muyo, to Yu Yu Haku Show, to Trigun...etc etc etc and oh yeah to DURARARA :D

My first anime that REALLY got me hooked would have to be the Crayon Shin Chan series, freakin laughed my ass of as a kid watchin that!!! XD
