Now, before I proceed further, I wish to mention something. age (the makers of this VN) can not do english for shit, so expect that 1) Americans will either rape your ears and/or massively overact and 2) The subs for said Americans will often not match what the voice says and make infinitely more sense.

Muv Luv and Muv Luv Alternative comprise a three-part story in which you follow events from the perspective of Takeshi Shirogane (Muv Luv is made up of two separate scenarios - Extra and Unlimited). In the first scenario, Shirogane wakes up one morning to find an unknown beautiful woman sleeping in his bed, and his next-door neighbor/childhood friend (who happens to have a bedroom and window directly across from Shirogane) looking extremely pissed. Stranger wakes up, says that she is the heiress to a very rich family and wishes to marry Shirogane. The rest of Extra essentially boils down to the stranger and the childhood friend battling it out for Shirogane's affection. Minor spoiler, but the stranger isn't really a stranger to Shirogane, he just doesn't remember her initially (why the fuck would she want to marry him if he was a random stranger? That spoiler is pretty damn obvious, so no bitching about it). This scenario is rather cliche in how it plays out, but it is worth playing through in order to continue, as well as being interesting enough to play through in its own right.

Complete both routes of Extra, and you automatically move on to Unlimited. Now, normally I would give a detailed explanation about this scenario, but doing so would be a major spoiler in every sense I can think of. Probably the only thing I can say is that almost every named character from Extra is present, with one notable exception.

Alternative is an EVEN BIGGER SPOILER in explaining anything, so all I can say is that it's Unlimited, but Shirogane has knowledge of what happened in the original Unlimited timeline. Of the three scenarios, this is the biggest tear-jerker so have some tissues available.

I know not explaining either of the last two scenarios may be a turn off to those of you reading, but the setup and payoff from going into those scenarios blind is worth it. Just push your way through the Extra scenario, even if lovey-dovey romance isn't your thing, as the next two scenarios are definitely worth it.

Finally, you will want to play the scenarios in order. Trying to play Alternate first will leave you VERY confused about what the fuck is going on. Trying to work everything out without the knowledge of how the other two scenarios played out is nigh-impossible.

Now, links. As Hongfire got busted, I can't give you a trusted torrent, so use the torrent AT YOUR OWN RISK. I will, however also provide a link to the erogedownload page if you are willing to download the files at a slower rate.

Just got through playing the trilogy. While extra was rather bland and predictable, it was well worth it to get to unlimited and alternative.

Alternative on it's own took me longer to read than extra and unlimited combined but it was so worth it.

I'm trying not to spoil anything in any of the games, but if you've not played the muv luv series yet I would highly recommend it if you can get passed the slow start.

I've only read Extra and Unlimited thus far, and I have to admit, they were both excellent in all the right ways. Takeru has three modes: Troll, exceedinly hilarious, or serious mode. I'm sure you can guess which of those modes is my favourite. ^_^

I can understand why a lot of people would dislike Extra, it is pretty much what you'd expect of a High School drama from the Japanese. Of course, going through all of the routes gives you a lot of fun when figuring out just who your classmates are.

Unlimited took an awesome twist on the world as well, I loved all the endings for it, they were amazing.

Even the 'bad' ending wasn't terrible... I think. XD
