Description Thread For Each Board (15)

1 Name: Magnolia : 2013-05-05 04:21 ID:XnlkqC9O [Del]

Hold up a minute, okay, I know there is one on FAQ...

But what if we posted another, slightly detailed and exampled in every board. New people wouldnt get bombarded by negative comments or insults if we did it this way.
I know you're thinking, well why can't we just tell them to go read FAQ? Well if they didn't read it before, why would they now? And too many people get kind of nasty about it. I would think if we had it in there face the very first time they open a board, like so : http://dollars-bbs.org/news/res/1367745297.html

Maybe it would change things...

Especially for random and personal. If we had a description thread at the top giving examples of what is and isnt okay. it would categorize and introduce the major threads that are mostly used.

Like in Personal, you give the description, you give examples of what is and isn't personal, and then link to the Dating Problems thread, Coming Out Thread, Anonymous Letters, and Complaining.

And in Random you would give a description, examples of what to and not to consider as random, and then a list of the major threads such as LOL thread, the Random Thought, MFW thread, and also one of the threads used as a game.

Actually on your point about why they would read it now if they didn't before...well it's simple.

It's not that they don't want to read it, thus won't. It's the fact they are too lazy to actually read it. So why would they read your suggestion? Even if it's in their face (which the F.A.Q due to bumping already is.)

So in short, your idea is the exact same thing as the F.A.Q., though with yours it's split up, and with our current set up, they won't have to reload to a new page each time just to read a few helpful questions and answers. It's all orderly, in one location.

IE - Your idea, some offense intended (to get the point across) is useless.

Not counting the F.A.Q is RIGHT there when you type the password in. Thus it's normally the first thing people see. Even if many times we have to link others to it.

Yet on main, more important than FAQ, is the READ THIS BEFORE YOU DO ANYTHING ELSE. Thread. The doesn't just point out the faq, it points out all the other important threads on main. They wont read it cuz they're lazy, yeah, and then in a board they post something that doesnt belong and even argue about it belonging there.
If we had a READ THIS BEFORE YOU DO ANYTHING ELSE thread in each board highlighting the dos and donts of the board and it's main thread examples it'll keep newbie pollution down.

And also it'll keep older members from getting grouchy at the newer ones.
It can be a thread or an actual paragraph on the site in each board.

No. It won't.

It's more of a space and time waster than anything even remotely helpful. When everyone goes on Main when they log in, will see the important topics already. If they don't read stuff without being directed to it, your suggestion will get even worse reactions towards it.

It's not needed by any form.

Also the F.A.Q still is way more important than the "Read This" topic.

Lastly I've noticed you took it upon yourself to create the "Read this" topic for News.

So what's the point of this fucking topic, if you're going to still take it upon yourself to add it to each board? Get our opinion, then talk it over with Reltair before taking anything upon yourself for the rest of the community.

Dude... Why are you only just noticing. I gave you the link in the OP as an example of what it would look like.

I posted it here, in suggestions, to gain views from MORE THAN ONE PERSON if this should be done all over BBS or in certain tricky areas. I still think the "Read This" is more important than FAQ because it gets their attention better and labels all the important threads on main.

I get your opinion, thanks. I need more. So far the "Read This" thread in News is gaining success, but that's supposedly because the News section was turning into people's diary corner.

Yeah, I read your OP but for some reason never saw the link XD

Okay.

So far the one I placed in the News Board has a positive reception. It was bumpy at first, but now I think that outlining what belonged there has really lessened the clutter & the gossip threads and personal journal threads.

I'm asking permission for the same to be done in Missions board. The difference between the one in News however, is that Missions board will have an index of the most popular threads and the original threads that have faaaaaaaar too many duplicates after them.
