Hey all! As you could tell, I'm back to posting stuff on the BBS during my free time, Especially now amidst the coronavirus pandemic. If you know me well, you'd know that I make a lot of music threads because so many of you listen to Japanese music, I like to bring more diversity to the boards.

During my time in quarantine, I've been listening to a lot to King Krule and his latest album Man Alive! released in February of this year.

Archy Ivan Marshall/King Krule has gone by many monikers throughout his music career such as Zoo Kid, DJ JD Sports, Edgar the Beatmaker, Edgar the Breathtaker, Lankslacks and The Return of Pimp Shrimp.
His sound is a blend of Jazz fusion, post-punk, hip hop and indie rock,
and is currently a prominent artist in the Jazz Punk movement, which is a form of punk music that started in the 1980s.
Marshall was born in 24th of August 1994, in Southwark, London, England. Growing up Marshall shuffled between living with his mother and father and had many disciplinary issues such as continuously skipping school to the point where his father had to physically drag him. Marshall eventually was moved to a school for troubled children and was getting tested for various types of mental illnesses. He states that the tests took a toll on him that the doctors, counselors, and psychiatrists were wrong most of the time; that he hated everybody; and that he would hide in his room for hours. He refers to his mental health issues, such as depression and insomnia, in his lyrics.
It wasn't until he was accepted at Brit School to study art when he started to find his place. Between 2008 and 2011, he released two singles as "Zoo Kid". He created a genre of music called "Bluewave" and its form was realized in the mixtape entitled U.F.O.W.A.V.E. In July 2011, Marshall began playing under a new moniker, King Krule. He soon released several EPs, and his debut full-length album, 6 Feet Beneath the Moon, was released in 2013 to positive critical reception. His other albums include.
The Ooz (2017)
Live On The Moon (2018)
Man Alive! (2020)

Many describe his sound as an unusual transcendence and appropriation of contrasting genres.
Jason Lymangrover of Allmusic states that his songs are mainly in the form of ballads with major seventh chords, but by contrast there is also a "grittiness" to Archy's voice and persona, portraying him as "the type of kid who would be quick to throw a punch without asking questions."
It is said that his musical influences are derived from the likes of Elvis Presley, Josef K, Chet Baker, Fela Kuti, and J Dilla to name a few.

King Krule to me has a very eerie and hypnotizing sound at the same time. It's so unique and I love it. His gritty voice has so much emotion. I know it might not be everyone's cup of tea but give him a shot if you love post-punk, Jazz or Folk.
