I CAN'T believe there isn't a thread for Starset already. Do you like rock? Do you like technology and space themes? Do you like music that follows a story? Then Starset is the band for you.
"Starset was formed in 2013 by Downplay vocalist Dustin Bates, who is also the band's lead singer, songwriter, and keyboardist. Bates' interest in astronomy was first fueled when acquiring his masters in electrical engineering as he studied at Ohio University. He completed research for the US Air Force and also taught at the International Space University. Bates created the fictional backstory for the band that forms the thematic basis for their music and multimedia. In the backstory, Starset was formed as part of a public outreach initiative by The Starset Society. The Society's aims were to alert the public about the contents of "the Message" the society obtained from a mysterious signal from space. Starset treats their backstory and The Starset Society as real in interviews, with few exceptions.
Due to the large number of styles, instruments, and influences of the band's work, many outlets, including AllMusic, Billboard, and Revolver all commonly label the band as "rock" or a "rock band". Bates informally describes the music as "cinematic rock". He elaborated further as to what he means by the self-prescribed label, saying it's "as if a hard-rock band did the soundtrack to an epic blockbuster movie...we're blending symphonics with electronics with riff-driven, baritone guitar hard rock."

As of today, Starset has 3 albums released : Transmissions [2014], Vessels [2017], and Divisions [2019].
Starset is one of my two favorite bands and I highly recommend them! There is not a single Starset song that I dislike.

You had me at Sigur Ros, I'll definitely give it a shot! I looove those types of bands.
P.S. Your description kind of reminds me of Abney Park, 'cuz they don't really fit into any genre, have a lot of different music, implement storytelling into songs and are one of the few bands that I find genuinely original. They have over 10 albums I think, give them a shot if you haven't already. Their shtick is steampunk/nomad/psychotic/cyberpunk stories
