I'm still learning how to play instruments, and one of my instructors is focusing on rhythms and sight reading. how long did it take you guys to get the hang of sight reading?

Imma drummer, I'd say it took about a year and a half to really get the hang of sight reading comfortably. I've been playing ~5 years now and I still have trouble (depending on the staff at least)

Im a clarinetist, guitarist and bassist. I cant read bass or guitar music but I can read clarinet music. I'd say (since I just started playing the clarinet) it took me 10 weeks. (I know the count cuz I'm a part of an ensemble.) Good luck!

I've been playing music since i was 5, i only really taught myself to sight read properly when i was 14, i would always rely on ear. I personally found that when i tried to learn pieces by myself without major help that my sight reading improved dramatically

I'm not a musician, nor have i played some instrument over years like others here did. I just recently started playing the Ocarina and for doing that i started to learn how to read sheet music.
