The Runaways was an American all-female rock band that was formed by Sandy West, drummer, and Joan Jett, rhythm guitarist, who introduced themselves to producer Kim Fowley. Fowley helped the girls find other members and in 1975, they started as a trio with lead singer, Micki Steele. They then added Lita Ford as lead guitarist. Steele was then fired from the group and replaced by bassist Peggy Foster. Soon after lead singer Cherie Currie was recruited and Jackie Fox replaced Foster on bass. Vicki Blue replaced Jackie Fox later on by the third studio album, but left the group in 1978 due to medical problems, so she was replaced by Laurie McAllister. They were signed to Mercury Records in 1976 and the group lasted until 1979 when they officially broke up.

After the Runaways broke up, each member went off to work on other bands (most notable is of course Joan Jett, who became very successful with her band The Blackhearts). There are also two films about the group.

Discography:
The Runaways (1976)
Queens of Noise (1977)
Live In Japan (1977)
After this album, Cherie Currie left the group to do a solo career, so Joan Jett did lead vocals from then on out (keep in mind though, Cherie Currie was not lead vocals on every song before her departure). Jackie Fox left the group, too and was replaced by Vicki Blue.
Waitin' for the Night (1977)
And Now...The Runaways (1978)

There are 8 compilation albums, but the most notable is "Flaming Schoolgirls" only because of it's two covers of Beatles songs. Strawberry Fields Forever and Here Comes the Sun

My favorite albums are the first and second one. Just super hardcore. That's all I can really say about it.

If you don't want to listen to the albums, check out these songs:
"Cherry Bomb"
"Blackmail"
"Born to be Bad"
"I Love Playin' with Fire"
"Wasted"
"Trash Can Murders"
"You're Too Possessive"

Nice thread.

I watched the movie about this band starring Kristen Stewart and Dakota Fanning. Pretty good flick, but didn't do much to get me interested in the band. I remember listening to a few tracks after just to see what some of the songs from the movie sounded like originally, but nothing really caught me.

There was a point at which I was listening to a handfull of Joan Jett and the Blackhearts songs, though.

Yeah, it was guitar hero
