"Emilie Autumn Liddell (born on September 22, 1979), better known by her stage name Emilie Autumn, is an American singer-songwriter, poet, and violinist. Autumn draws influence for her music—the style of which she has alternatively labeled as "Victoriandustrial" and glam rock—from plays, novels, and history, particularly the Victorian era. Performing with her all-female backing band The Bloody Crumpets, Autumn incorporates elements of classical music, cabaret, electronica, and glam rock with theatrics, and burlesque."

I personally love Emilie Autumn's songs. Quite a few have left me in tears after the first time listening through. Some songs are fun, some are sad, some are angry - you go through a wave of emotions filtering through her albums. A lot of her inspiration comes from her own experiences, which I'll give a bit of a glimpse into here:

Despite being on birth control, Autumn got pregnant in 2004. Fearing the child would be born with her bipolar disorder, she chose to get an abortion. She attempted suicide shortly after and was institutionalized. During her institutionalization, none of her friends or family contacted her nor tried to get her out. She was not permitted to have contact with anyone other than other patients, doctors, and nurses whether it by by phone or in person. She realized that the modern asylums weren't that much different than the previous ones in that most of the women she met had no psychological problems and were only put in there by scornful relatives or husbands.

After being released, she had her cell block number tattoo'd on her arm and wrote her autobiography which was published in 2010. She continues to release albums and has gained a cult following; her fans are referred to as "plague rats," though the origin of that phrase is debated. She first started to get popular after a YouTuber (wingedzephyr) posted lyric videos of her songs, and his icon was plague rat related. Some believe that inspired it; others believe the icon itself as well as the future phrase was inspired by early poetry EA did.

Anyway, enough of the information. I love Emilie Autumn. She's probably one of my favorite alternative artists, and none of the other threads on here were giving her proper credit. She has one of the strongest and most versatile voices I've heard, even in her earlier albums.

I forgot to mention that a lot of her songs are satires.

Kind of like this little gem: Thank God I'm Pretty
