"Sydney based alternative rock band I’m No Thief's self-titled album can only be described as a magnificent contribution to the Australian music scene. By fusing aspects of progressive, alternative and mainstream music, I’m No Thief have managed none less than to redefine the limits within which alternative music can make inroads into the Australian mainstream.
The technical aspects of progressive and alternative rock are a constant throughout the EP. Tracks such as ‘Our Last Night’ and ‘Beast and Beauty’ span the sonic spectrum from blasting riffs to intertwining counter melodies and on to phat, harmony filled choruses. However, far from being a distraction or even a turn off for mainstream audiences, the progression of each song has been executed so naturally as to allow even the most casual listener to connect effortlessly with each song.
The vocal melodies and harmonies strewn throughout this album are hauntingly well thought out. The layers of vocal harmonies during the choruses of ‘The End’ and ‘When You Say’ provide an impressive context from which the main vocal melody soars. The dark tone of this EP is clearly underpinned by a desire for progress rather than vague or distant anger. Combined with rolling rhythms and lyrical genius, the listener can’t but help feeling inspired by such tunes.
I’m No Thief caters to the mellow inside us with tracks such as ‘Run Away Fool’ and ‘No! I Need This’ which serve to complete the range of music on this album. From heavy and progressive to dark and driven to light and playful and back again, I’m No Thief has produced a 6-track delight that gives us a delicious taste of what is still to come from one of Sydney’s most promising new bands."
