World Politics (10)

I've always wanted to be a diplomat or
work in some diplomatic function, and I
was curious to know others' opinions on world
politics today.

A very wide topic you opened here ;)
Well, I'm not that interested in actually having a diplomatic job as you do, but I do believe that I can be described as sort of a critic. I'm interested in various anthropological fields; politics included.
So is there a specific topic you want to discuss? I'm curious about what I'll here from someone who aspires to become a diplomatic figure.

Generally what people's opinions are about what goes on in the world; for instance, the recent goverent shutdown in the U.S., or the most recent ( I was notified of it today) earthquake and predicted tsunami near Fukushima, Japan. As an aspiring anthropoligist, do you have any insight on things of this nature?

I`ve always been a neutral party for any problems that came up in my friend group, and I find it easy and beneficial to assist in "peace talks".

I hear that the Fukushima plants will be shut down. That'll be a blow for Japan's energy resources. When you look on how heavily populated Japan is; more people equals more energy consumption which means more demand for energy. Nuclear power plants are a great source of energy, but there is always that risk, and especially in an unstable environment like Japan's. Still, I guess they'll build new ones afterwards; no one can afford insufficient energy supplies.
Everyone says that we should switch to renewable sources, but it's not that simple, these engineers know their jobs; there is in fact quite a difference between energy distributed by renewable sources and conventional fossil fuels. Simply put, fossil fuels give us more energy per volume. And to switch to renewable and unconventional sources, we will need to change the structure of our society, it's not a simple quest of just switching to another fuel. Why isn't it? Because it's not only a question of fueling our cars and etc. right now, everything you're touching is made of oil.
There's a lot more to say about this, but people usually don't like to read long posts, so I'll leave it here :)
