A Day of Silence (18)

1 Name: Rie : 2012-04-20 08:36 ID:4HBqV9NZ [Del]

So, as many of you may know today is the Day of Silence (at least in the mid-west of the US), a day where people remain silent the whole day and don't utter a word in symbolic protest for all gay/lesbian/bisexual people in the world that have been silenced due to bullying.

At my school, you were permitted to get all your teachers signatures in order to remain silent throughout the day (speaking when need for a presentation and the like). If you didn't want to do that but still protest gay bullying, then you wear purple, as I am currently doing.

So here's the questions for discussion:

•Would you remain silent? If so, why?
•If not, why not?
•Do you guys think staying silent is a good way to protest gay bullying?
•Did you participate/ will you?

If you didn't remain silent then that's fine by me, as I did not. I feel that my opinion on the matter is better expressed through my power of speach, probably due to my strong nature and mock trial experiances. I completely protest gay bullying, but I just don't feel my remaining silent will solve much, especially in my family.
But I wanna know what you guys think of it, so don't be shy!

(I honest to goodness hope I put this in the right spot)

I'd do this if it wasn't for the fact that my job requires me to run my mouth everyday.. I think it's a great thing that people want to band together and stop bullying. I don't have much to say about this.. I just thought I'd throw my 2 cents in.

I definitely wanted to do this, problem is, it's pretty impossible to stay quiet in my school, and knowing the teachers, they would try to suspend you for it or give you detention. -___-

I did it last year when I didn't have as many people asking for my help haha, but this year a lot of things have changed and I can't afford not to talk to these people.. Maybe better luck next year, or I'll try to find a way to pay respect to the people who are taking part in this. Idk, I'll see how things play out

Honestly, no. I'm all for gay rights, but this isn't going to accaomplish anything... Your effeort would be better used elsewhere.

I didn't know about it till about 4th hour. That's when I started my day of silence, although it was a bit late. After school we found out one of the biology teachers (one who refused to teach evolution cause it goes against her religion, even though she's required to teach it) got on one of my friend's rear ends and said that staying silent to protest LGBT bullying was illegal and all this other crap.
Personally, I think she just hates LGBT people.

BUT YEAH 8D I participated. Had fun with it. My best friend's gay, so yeah... o.o -Late.-

We do day of silences as school for a lot of things, abortion victims, LGBT bullying victims, stuff like that. I think it raises awareness for the issues going on, but im not sure it does anything to change it

Nice~! Yeah remaining silent isn't illegal, it's exercising one's freedoms of speach (or lack thereof lol).

I think it would be interesting not for the protesting but just to see what it is like to be mute. Otherwise I am afraid it would get in the way of my education so I could not really participate.

I participated. I have a lot of friends who did it too. I've stopped most of them from comitting suicide because of the bullying. And they've also helped me through the bullies. (Yeah...I'm part of the LGBT group....)
