So today I was checking my mail and received an email from a Navy recruiter. He saw my resume posted online and wanted to offer me a chance to speak with him about possible enlistment. Unfortunately, due to medical reasons (and the fact that I'm transgender not helping) I had to decline. But it got me to thinking.
There are a lot of positions in not just the armed forces, but the civilian force (AmeriCorps, Coast Guard, US Forest Service, etc.) that someone like myself could be qualified for. Since I am interested in technology (my new major is Geographic Information Systems after all), I took a look at the AmeriCorps website.
See HereThey have a lot of opportunities, and you will get compensation for your services. And it ranges from a monthly stipend to being able to pay off student loans. However, volunteers must dedicate 10-12 months of service. Being in college, it's not available to me now, but when I graduate with my Bachelor's I am really considering it.
Anyway, this thread is to discuss the government service opportunities available; from the Army, Navy, Air Force and Marines; to the Coast Guard, AmeriCorps, Peace Corps (which do community service outside the US) and Forest Service (stuff like Volunteer Fire Brigade and Conservation Teams).
