Congratulations. You have stumbled upon a test.

This is testing pure odds. It is extremely unlikely you will have found this thread, especially in such an unlikely place. And yet, here you are. Whether you are looking at this thread years from now as someone who is curious, maybe right now as someone who is bored, or perhaps in the far future a moderator getting ready to delete some old posts, here you are.

Tell me, why are you here? Why did you come to this thread in particular? And, do you feel any kind of emotion for 'discovering' something with meaning in a place with little of it?

True, there is no reward for coming here. But, maybe that's what life is all about.

Sage replies, please (upper left hand corner of reply box). To keep the experiment running.

Okay, this is now my personal secret thread.

I doubt anyone will ever find this. This could become my diary.

Anyway, what is my ID now?

5 Name: Inuhakka !u4InuhakKA : 2013-12-28 22:38 ID:zwnV8f+b [Del]

>>4 Interesting...and yet I had permission to delete a post from when I had a different ID...yet apparently the same IP address...

Could it be a coincidence?

6 Name: Inuhakka !u4InuhakKA : 2013-12-28 22:46 ID:zwnV8f+b [Del]

>>5 I just tried deleting a post in an older thread from September, and it wouldn't let me.

Yet, I successfully deleted a post from a while ago in the same thread.

Coincidence? My IP just happened to be the same, but my ID wasn't? What exactly make the ID's?

Here we go.

I felt sad watching it go.

lel.

New hobby.

I go to really old threads that haven't been posted on in 2 or 3 years, and reply to them.

It makes me really happy.

I plan to infect all the boards soon.

I saw Evangelion 3.0 today.

I admit, I didn't really like it as much as I thought I would. I found the voice acting particularly awkward, especially from Nagisa. I was hoping for better. I also thought it would be subbed, so...yeah.

But, not bad. Still, obviously, this is apparently where he wanted to take the series all along, so, I guess I should like this more.

Well, actually, fuck Anno.

Someone else, called 'mummy boy', has been raiding the Food Board. From their name, it looks like they don't even know what they are doing, and probably just checked Sage thinking it was something else.

I have to take over all the boards...slowly...

I'll have to look elsewhere on the site, by making a thread in technology, about Quantum Physics, and what you think of the quantum model.

Seriously.

Call it gender identity or something. Gender is based on physical structure, not mindset. That's what gender fucking is. There's no reason to change it just because conflicts between mindset and physical structure are now more acceptable and have specific terms. Don't get me wrong, I think there is a whole range of mental identities, but why call it gender? Why not make another term? You've made this into a fight for gender equality when it is really just stupid.

There, flame me all you want.

There's no meaning or sense anywhere. Even meaning you create can vanish in an instant. So, nothing makes sense, and that is a truth at its core. Just me responding to this post is irrelevant, there is no meaning except that which I create for myself. In fact, this post really helped me realize that you can just create meaning from anything, which in turn makes meaning meaningless. Wait...

Puck knows. This is bad, considering he's also a member. I don't know how I could have gotten out of it, he suspected anyway. Now I feel like an idiot.

People are too emotional, and they try to read between the lines. They make people into the enemy they want to fight, but doesn't exist. This in turn fucks all kinds of things up, and in the end everyone is miserable.

Did I mention that people suck?

Have you ever thought something to yourself you think other people should hear? Do you want to chat with fellow Dollars members about the weather, or about how intelligent and unique you are? Are you high? If so, this is the thread for you!

The Random Thought Thread (RTT) is for all of your thoughts, feelings, emotions, braggings, stutters, outbursts, questions, concerns, comments, personal attacks, drunken ramblings, litigations, sexual advances, or emergency calls that don't really need their own thread.

It's all welcome here.

I am really sick. I got the weekend off, but I would have got most of it off anyway from calling in sick. It's not a good feeling.

I'm trying to get good scores on the Advance Wars: DS campaign missions, well, perfect scores, but it's really hard because my playstyle is not very 'technical' (IE, I lose a lot of units).

Side note, I think playing Advance Wars has made me better at chess. It's quite similar, if you look at it that way. Granted, it's like chess with super-powers, but if I turned all the powers off, played with Andy, etc, I think it would be very similar.

Not very fun, though.

There are about 6500 introductions threads, and not everyone has even made one of them.

Over the years, I'd say we have acquired damn near 10 000 members. Sweet.

At the moment, I'd say less than 1 000 that goes on more than once a month, though.

Maybe even around 500. It'd be cool to know.

I've been doing research on Sejin/Taro Tanaka. They've been around since at least 2011, under Taro Tanaka, then changed somewhere along the line to Sejin. Very well-thought out posts, humble, etc. I would love to partake in more discussion, but he isn't a regular user, at least not posting.

I lol'd when Hatash called him a newfag that one time. Norbert wasn't even a troll, he was just being an asshole (big difference). Besides, Sejin's been here longer than him!

I was considering doing research on mummy boy, but it's 12:33 and I just did the shittiest close evar. No more pizza on Sun-Tues, that's for sure.

I hate the gender/sexuality movement right now, with a passion.
They are making terms for every possible attraction/physical/mental/spiritual situation possible. Just stop at straight, gay, bi, etc., the most common ones.

You would never do that for physical disorders, or even mental disorders. I have Asperger's Syndrome, but I'm not nearly the same person as another person who has the same syndrome. It's an umbrella term, but it's specific enough to describe fairly accurately what I am like. I don't have to create another sub-label if I have Asperger's, but more social, or if I have Tourettes, but without a vocal tic. Can't you just fucking say 'I am attracted to guys, I feel like a girl, I have a guy's body, I got a sex change' without creating some super-specific term for it?

The difference is, I want to inform people as simply as possible. I don't say I have a physical tic that is my way of dealing with exciting thoughts or feelings, I say I have fucking Tourettes. I know nobody gives a shit enough to actually learn what's going on with me, so I go simple. However, people now see no value in simplicity, and they want to talk about themselves. They really want to solidify their feelings and emotions as real, making new terms for them so they are legitimate. They can't realize what I realized, that no one gives a shit other than you, and you already know about yourself anyway.

Or, more likely, they are reaching to outside terms to discover something about themselves. They find comfort in knowing what they are feeling, because it's pretty damn confusing. I know I felt reasonably happy that there were other people like me, so I can imagine how that must feel for something as confusing as sexuality. Still, it's getting way out of control, and I am getting sick of people who will defend it to death.

70 Name: Inuhakka !u4InuhakKA : 2014-04-06 00:53 ID:ns1fOVZh [Del]

>>69 I was wrong, it's completely to legitimize it. It's like saying, 'I feel really uncomfortable most of the time'. That sounds lame, it doesn't sound serious at all, people won't take it seriously, etc. However, say, 'I have Asperger's Syndrome', and suddenly it is legitimate. Suddenly, you aren't just uncomfortable, you are in pain. People care. Well, lol, no people don't care. They care about not being made out as bigots disagreeing with something they don't really understand. They don't know if AS is really painful, so they aren't going to take that chance.

However, the gender movement fails horribly at trying to do this same thing because the new terms are being created mainly by people who are doing so not for the recognition of an actual circumstance, but for legitimizing their own feelings as something important and true. The new terms are not being legitimized, hell, even the most basic ones aren't. Aspergers never had a negative connotation like being gay did, so the entire movement is built on a faulty foundation which is undermined by years of bigotry and hatred. I guess that's the real reason it isn't taken as seriously.

Oh well.

Other news: apparently my colleague closed in around 0 minutes, so that sounds a little better than I would think he is. I definitely don't think Boss-man was confused, though. I'm not sure what happened, I'll have to find out some time.

I'll just check everything from now on.

In other news, I found that links to threads in Suggestions had been removed, but the 1...n-2, n-1, n summary was still visible. It looked like I could still reply, too. In the next hour, they were deleted. Either they get locked down, links deleted before deletion (to prevent access after deletion, that would be awkward), or it just took a while to kick in.
They've also cleaned out Random, like a lot. The first 200 or so threads were wiped out. Maybe mummy boy was promoted to a mod after all.
I think I'll have to retire RP soon. I'm not sure if I'll reveal it or not. Probably, but I'll have to find the right time to do so.

>>190 "She doesn't like company, she is a responsible one, she is strong, she can handle anything!

Nothing of this is remotely true, but then WHY everybody talks about me like this? And mostly, why everybody thinks to already know me so well?

Damn it, really. My parents, my family, my classmates, my ex friends, everybody knows that i had a nevrotic collapse and i tried to commit suicide many times, everybody knows that i can't hold panic, everybody knows it, but then why everybody acts as if i was completely ok?
As if my problems didn't exist at all?"

This made me cry for a while.
Change of plans, Coffee. Bear with me.

I have Asperger's Syndrome. I know this now, but I didn't know back then. I didn't know in grade school or elementary school. I knew I was different, though. I knew people didn't really understand me because I wasn't like them. All I ever wanted was someone to understand how I felt, what I felt, why I did what I did, everything. All they had to do was listen.

But, no one ever did that. Whether it was because they watched a movie, or read a book, they thought they understood me even when I didn't. They didn't think I wanted friends, they thought I wanted to be alone. They watched a fucking movie, and suddenly they thought they knew everything about me. When I tried to kill myself, no one understood why. All they had done for me over the years, and this is how I reacted? No one ever thought that maybe, not talking with anyone for the last 4 fucking years had any effect. They spoke at me, of course. They yelled at me, they lectured me, but they never once just sat down and talked to me. They never listened. They just didn't give a shit. The worst part was that they thought they were helping me. It didn't matter what I said or did, no one ever talked to me, or cared about what was happening. They just convinced themselves that they understood. I didn't know then, but that was the only thing worse than no one understanding what was happening.

The truth is Coffee, most people don't give a shit. They may want to help you, but not enough to find out what you need. They will do whatever it takes to make sure they feel like they are helping you, whether or not they actually are. Instead of taking some fucking time and talking to you, they'll convince themselves that you don't really want to talk, and it's best for you. That way, not only do they not have to do anything, they're helping you too! It's just easier for them that way. They don't want to have that nagging feeling that they are being pricks. They don't want to take the time to listen and understand.

If they understood you, they'd know. They'd know that you need help. You aren't the tough as nails girl every has made you out to be, you are a human being that needs other human beings to help her. It's just easier for them to think you're without flaw. But, Coffee, you can't change how they think. I want to so badly, I just want to find those people from back then in my life and just look in their eyes, and I want them to just see me. See me, understand that they're full of shit and I hate it. But, no matter what, those people that have forgotten about me by now will never care. They caused me so much pain, they never understood me, but they will never care. They'll never be able to take the time and understand me, and understand that all those years I was not happily playing be myself, but wallowing in my inability to make friends or get people to care, and thinking about the rest of my life as a poor, miserable old piece of shit, thinking about what would happen if I felt like this for the rest of my life. Most people just can't care anymore.

But Coffee, there are people that can do this. There are people like your brother, people like (believe it or not) me, people that can shove all that shit aside and listen. People that don't have to solve your problems for you so they can be happy, people that can just realize that shit is horrible and there's no quick fucking fix. People like your brother can just be there, they can help you by finding out what you actually need.

There's also you.
You are the only one in the world who understands what you've been through and what you're like.
If there's one thing, one single thing I've learned from the last 8 years, it's that you are the only person that will be with you for your whole life. You're the only sure thing in the world.

Now, with that said, I don't know how you'll think of this rant of mine. It's the first time I've stopped trying to be neutral and started saying what I think. I just want you to be happy, Coffee. I want you to know there is someone who understands even a small part of you. There's someone who cares. If you must doubt everything in the universe, do not ever doubt that.
I care about you and that will never change.

I think I have to configure the NAT for each switch. Thing is, I'm not sure exactly how to do that. I enabled it for the port all switches are coming off of, but for some reason that doesn't work. There aren't any guides I can find for a practical situation like that, meaning there's probably another, better way to do the same thing I don't know about when you don't have a simple situation.

YES!

I separated the Wifi, allowed access to the Internet, and did it all in 2 minutes! Fucking score!

I guess Barabi was right. All I had to do was search up how to set up NAT, and I should have realized that I did do it correctly. There weren't any fucking guides for across switches because switches don't have any ports! They literally just switch the port they're plugged into to! I just made 16 LAN ports, so nothing had to be configured for them. The only issue was server side. The server couldn't even ping the router it was wired directly into. That should have set off some big fucking lights, but instead I thought my NAT was broken.

OMIGOD this is awesome! I'm officially a god-tier network wizard and there's nothing you can say about it.

Seriously, today was such bullshit, and all for some 2 minute solution. This happens every goddamn time I program anything, even in Python.

Seriously, though, this program is god-tier.

114 Name: Inuhakka !u4InuhakKA : 2014-06-05 19:27 ID:SMLjSvV2 [Del]

Barabi has got me thinking.
I haven't quite figured out an ideal system for teaching children. At first, my ideal was keeping them literally separated from each other for the first few years of their life, but I realized that was kind of rude.
Most of the problems I see are from parents rejecting their kid's curiosity. I think most kids go to their parents first to learn about something, and I think maybe the parents are given more opportunity than I originally thought to do right. However, it is really hard.
I guess only time will tell. I'll think about it more.

115 Name: Inuhakka !u4InuhakKA : 2014-06-05 23:51 ID:SMLjSvV2 [Del]

>>114 Think I got it figured out.

Ideally, pretty much what I thought before, that children should have no parents and they should learn literally everything on their own. However, children also can't differentiate between people's opinions very well, they tend to take what they learn from everywhere as equal truth. That's pretty much why a parent is there. A parent's job should be to speed the learning process so that they are ready to be independent by the time they're 18 or graduating high school or whatever. So, this means providing information that would normally take a long time to get. This would be subtleties rather than data, so teaching your kid about something you'd need experience to know. Other than that, they should be able to handle everything else.

However, regardless of what the parent ends up deciding, society should make an effort to accommodate them. How hard is it to curb language, really? There's a reason we don't have sex in public, either. It isn't the exact same reason, but it's along the right lines.

These guys don't seem to understand how difficult it is to raise a kid. Barabi said if you can't teach them everything, you shouldn't be a parent. Spoken like someone who has never had kids and will be just as surprised and shitty as everyone else when she does. Maybe just at first, but no one's perfect right off the bat.

And, does no one on this site understand that swearing makes you sound like an uncultured idiot? Sorry, but when I hear someone swear, it turns me right off and I don't want to speak to them anymore. They just don't understand the significance it has on someone's perception of you. I learned about that the good-old hard fashioned way. ;)
Seriously, though, don't swear when talking to your employer, even if they have sworn in front of you. Wait until they've sworn to you.

116 Name: Inuhakka !u4InuhakKA : 2014-06-06 12:15 ID:SMLjSvV2 [Del]

Same thing happened.

This is why I don't like speaking to people my age. Their thinking is you're wrong and they have to prove it, whereas my thinking is let's work together and find out what's right, because I certainly don't know. I can't do that on my own, I need other viewpoints.

They don't view it like that, though. No one here does.

I also hardly think you can determine how good or bad of a parent someone is going to be based on their opinions in an online debate. That's kinda/really rude.

120 Name: Inuhakka !u4InuhakKA : 2014-06-08 13:09 ID:SMLjSvV2 [Del]

>>119 That's true, but I'm not sure why it's rude to think that.

I just know a lot of people who thought they were prepared for children and got really shocked when it wasn't easy. They got better at it, of course, so I wouldn't consider them bad parents. That's what I was going for there, that everyone will be surprised the first time they raise a kid, not that everyone will be bad.

I also remember explicitly saying I think you would be good at parenting kids, but that might have been after you posted that.

You have to admit, assuming parents should teach their kids in the best way possible all the time does not exactly imply a complete knowledge of the difficulty of that task. I know that's not true for everyone that thinks that, but I seem to see a lot more kids that think that's true than parents.

123 Name: Inuhakka !u4InuhakKA : 2014-06-08 22:23 ID:SMLjSvV2 [Del]

After some research, I can safely say everything I thought about swearing in public was wrong.

While I thought the people that tell others not to swear around kids were doing it because they know that it's important to respect other people, they are doing it literally because that's what they want for their kids. It has nothing to do with general respect, it has to do with a very specific respect for their personal beliefs. So, it seems, Barabi was pretty much exactly correct. I thought most people had around the same beliefs about respecting people as I did, but that's a load of shit apparently.

It's the same thing with sex. Apparently if you just ignore it and never let kids watch it, they'll never want to do it when they grow up and they never will.

Same thing with suicide, too. Apparently if you talk about it, you are encouraging it. Very stupid shit, and entirely personal opinion being forced on people through stigmatization.

Well.
That's the last time I go into a debate without some groundwork.
The worst part is I agree with her method of parenting, but strongly disagree with her method of public conduct.

Ghost in the Shell was really great.

The animation was really spotty at times, and also hugely varied (the Major never looked the same in two episodes), but the story was really well detailed. I also like how they didn't fall into the trap of 'leaving the viewers to decide' and using that as an excuse to not make up anything decent. They provided a good range of material that was explicit and implicit, and from there it was possible to believe more than one thing about each character.

The technology is extremely impressive. As a Computer Science major I was constantly checking the science for mistakes (like I always do) and only found a couple. The biggest problem was the 'surfing the net' bit. I thought it was a bit too flashy and less realistic. It seemed to play on the concept most people have of the Internet, which is almost completely made up by the movies. It's a massive mesh of cables rather than a single place or circuit.

That being said, it is possible that all of that was simply a program that she actually wrote or was provided that simulated what the wires would be like, etc, and also graphically simulated all of the connections, circuits, etc. However, there was zero explanation of what that display actually was, so that was my biggest problem.

Honestly, it's one of if not my favorite show. If the animation was always good, it would be 10/10 easily. The laughing man stuff was top-tier story-building/plot-twisting. The second season got pretty obscure, but if you took the time to learn what you were hearing it made sense after 2+ runs through it.

Hm.
Can't say I agree there.

Communication is two way, people often forget. I don't make jokes about Christianity around Christians, it's common sense. Even if I think they are over-sensitive, making those kinds of comments against religion puts me in the wrong. It really doesn't matter how unreasonable I perceive their beliefs to be, it is a failure of communication and that is on both of us.

If you even mentioned a Holocaust joke, no matter what day it was, she'd flip shit and say that you have no mind to pay to anyone but yourself, etc. It went on and on. It's like, damn. I'm part Polish too, and I lost more ancestors to the Holocaust than you did. What makes you so damn special that I can't make a joke about it around you when you didn't even realize you had ancestors there until a few months ago?

Etc. I don't think their reasons are always justified for being against those jokes.

>>145 I understand what your frustration is from. I have a similar tale, except the person I know found out she had Native American heritage. She started flaunting it, calling people out whenever they talked about it and didn't have all the facts right, etc. I got really annoyed because she was using their entire culture as a tool in conversation to prop herself up. Contrary to what she thought she was doing, it was the biggest sign of disrespect she could possibly have done.

The reason I get antsy about Holocaust jokes is because it promotes a culture of indifference to violence and suffering. I understand that making jokes doesn't prove you don't know anything about the Holocaust, but it does mean you are disregarding years of pain, suffering, and brutal, horrible mass murder. If you didn't, none of those jokes would be funny. Every time you told a joke, you would just think of all the bodies, all the madness and brutality, and the jokes wouldn't be funny.

I'm sure you can understand why I get very angry when people willfully ignore something like the Holocaust. I know telling jokes doesn't prove total ignorance of the subject, but it doesn't exactly help prove any understanding of it, either.

I also have a problem when people say them around people they don't know are comfortable with them. Like I said before, even if you think they are being too sensitive, if you tell jokes you know upset them, you are at fault. I will not say this and pretend I don't constantly do this because I believe people are too sensitive, but take this from someone who has learned this the hard way.

147 Name: Inuhakka !u4InuhakKA : 2014-06-26 00:08 ID:slvgBBtA [Del]

>>146 I should also add my view doesn't work in all contexts. If we had to take 10 seconds every time a person in the world died to remember them or feel sad about it, we'd literally never do anything but wait around thinking. We do have to disregard a lot of pain that happens in the world, frankly because there is a lot of it and just sitting thinking about it accomplishes very little.

In the case of the Holocaust and other bigger tragedies, I believe there is a benefit to thinking about them. This is an event in history that may be repeated if we don't take it seriously. We do have to be indifferent to a lot of pain and death in the world, but I believe there is a reasonable point at which we can start to take things seriously.

If people tell Holocaust jokes around me, I'm not going to freak out on them. I probably won't correct them or tell them any of my thoughts on it. I may tell them I don't find them funny, but most likely I just won't laugh. That's usually all it takes. If I never laugh at those jokes, they'll stop being told around me. I like to be respectful even when I am trying to tell someone I think they are doing something wrong.

holy;shit.

Is it bad that the best part of my trip was finishing that show?
Nah.

But, seriously, I think they slacked a bit with the world lines. If it always splits into two lines, why does Okabe always go into the changed line? And, if all the lines end up in the same place, (ie, Alpha, Beta, Steins;Gate) what exactly is changing from Alpha to Beta? Do all the Alpha lines get destroyed when going to Beta? It seemed like for the entire show, it was just Okabe finding the line he liked best, rather than actually saving the world or making a new, peaceful line (ie, Steins;Gate).

Also, in the Beta Line (the first time) Okabe had already traveled back in time, as evident by Kurisu's question of 'What were you about to tell me?' Doesn't that mean Okabe had already traveled through the Alpha Line, done all that shit, then came back the the Beta? If he did erase the Beta, screw around in the Alpha, then recreate the Beta, how does his future self still exist if that hasn't even happened yet? I thought it set a new world line running, and if that were true it would wipe the entire future clean. So, I conclude he must be simply moving between lines rather than creating them.

Well, there was that thing where he got a message but couldn't read it the first time. Only after he went back in time, then forward in time again could he read his future message. It's possible the future message was only previously recorded, but then who sent it at that time and why could he read it? I assumed his future self sent it back, and only after his phone had been used for the countless activities in the Alpha line could the message be read on his phone. However, I still don't know how his future self can still exist if he just created the Beta line after passing the 1% divergence number.

Also, why doesn't sending your consciousness back in time significantly change it? They said the line only splits if something big happens, like when they sent the message making whats-his/her-face a girl. They then said sending the mind back doesn't change much. That would be true, if Okabe did similar things to what he did originally. However, he didn't. He did vastly different things which would greatly affect the future and yet not once during that escapade did the line split. He just kept going back and back, only when he sent mail back in time.

I must not understand how the lines work. I thought they said they split every time something changes, but that doesn't make sense when Okabe constantly follows the on that changes the most.
However, you can sort of just treat it like the world itself is changing, and ignore all the lines bits. I don't really think the lines make sense or are treated well during the show. I think if you just assume there is one world that is being changed, and the D-number is how different the eventual outcome of that one world is, it makes a lot more sense.

Also, been thinking about cyberbullying and suicides. I'm really torn. On the one hand, it is something that you can easily avoid. The only way you can get targeted is if you go on social media where stuff is personalized. If you just don't go on tumblr., Facebook, etc, there's really no way you can be affected.

However, social media is something a lot of people use a lot of the time. It's like asking someone to stop crossing the street because someone might run them over. The result is different (life and death vs. triggering some kind of emotional meltdown), but the expectation of harm is the same. Many, many people are hit and killed by cars every year. There is a high risk of dying while crossing the street. Yet, people don't blame the victim of a hit-and-run for walking on the street as intended. They would however blame the victim of cyberbullying for continuing to use that service even though they know people may target them. So, drivers that make a mistake while trying to do right are blamed more than people who are intentionally attempt to harm someone with the express knowledge it may result in death. That just seems a little off to me.

I think people expect too much of every person on the Internet. If you can't deal with ridiculous harassment, don't use any social media? That's just stupid. Most of the stuff said online would be considered a criminal offense if said in person, yet it is not considered that on the Internet because people like to use it as their personal playing ground. They don't want to act kind, that takes too much effort, so they make up these ridiculous standards that only apply online.

They would probably say when a person is hit by a car, they have no control over whether they live or die, but a person being bullied online has full control and everything that happens is therefore their fault. It's really nice to assume that, because then you don't feel guilty anymore and you know that it's ridiculous that people would kill themselves over cyberbullying.

And yet it continues to happen, and will continue to happen, despite how ridiculous anyone may think it is.
Assuming it won't happen because it shouldn't according to your own views, and doing nothing about it because of that is stupid.

>we actually had to request board descriptions at the top of each thread from the Admin himself

Implying that's not reasonable.
Well, if everyone would like sit around complaining people should just know how to find out how to use the site correctly and watch them not over and over and over again, fine.

I just think it's a little odd a member knows how to make a thread before they know how to make a thread correctly, and also that no one seems to think that's an issue.

We're asking them to find information they don't know exists without being asked. And, most people seem to think that's reasonable. Sure, if the Read This If You're New thread is right at the top of the page, it's their choice not to read it. But, guess what else is at the top of the page? The Create new thread button, often times above the RTIYN. Removing that would make creating threads more inconvenient, which apparently is a big problem, even though the number of legitimate threads created on the site is less than 5 a day, and definitely not by the same person.

Well, I'll continue to sweep like I do, and hope others follow suit. Already I've started seeing thank you's and please's, so maybe things will turn out a little better.

I have a feeling DRRR!! season 2 will wreck this site.

I think I should use this site to secure a more permanent means of communication between Puck and I. Right now, it's kind of sketchy. 20 minutes a day should be good.

After what Doug said, I've started thinking the same thing. However, I've seen many, many new users that essentially say they aren't going to post at all because they are afraid of breaking the rules. That would be okay, if we had more than 50 regular members on the site. I think we should encourage posting, but not making new threads. It's a bit weird that it's actually easier to make a new thread than it is to reply to one. That's not entirely this site, it's a common property of many BBS's and forums. I don't understand why.

Either way, that makes me a little happy somehow. I still remember just discovering this site a little over a year ago (that was the anniversary, by the way), and I can remember thinking, "Wow, those people are so cool! I want to be one of them!". Now, I think I'm at least partially recognizable.

Also, why do I have a feminine writing style? I've been wondering this for a while, and I really can't figure out why. I don't know a thing about writing styles in the first place, though.

As for the polite responses, I seem to get pretty good responses when I do it. At first, I went all out. I basically gave them a tutorial of the site when they first posted. I think people are more likely to simply leave the site when they get raged at, I'm not sure they learn anything at all. A good example the first time I made a thread. If Sleepology had just decided he was having a bad day or he had something bad for lunch, and had raged at me like he sometimes does, I might never have stayed here.

Anyway, I should do what I do on Main in Intro, to prevent an issue rather than simply dealing with it. I think you have the right idea about Intro.

I'm not really sure about Chrome. He's said before he's leaving the site and/or taking extended breaks, but that never seems to happen, thankfully. This time seems more serious.

As for what to do, you've done what you can do. This is the same thing that happened with Coffee and me. I got really emotionally invested in it, and was really unhappy for a couple of weeks as I constantly thought about her condition. I cried more in those days than in the last couple of years. At the end of the day, that didn't help her at all, so there's really no point. I'm sure she'd feel a little better knowing someone cared, but all I can do to make her know that is doing what you just did: talking to her. We can't really do anything other than that.

Everything I say to cheer people up on this site is garbage. To me, it seems like thoughtless trash. But, that is the sort of thing most people like to hear when they are feeling very bad. So, since I don't know how I'd like to hear it, I'm not very good at it either.

I'm sure they appreciate the response regardless, though, unless it was really, really bad.

>>196 Ah, yeah. I was wrapping some food in plastic wrap, but I had to use a big-ass sheet to wrap the whole thing. When I pulled it all out, it kept crinkling up at the edges and did not cover the whole thing. When I tried to unwrap it, it kept getting worse. I cannot deal with that sort of stuff. I freaked out and kept doing it over and over again; every time it contracted I would rip the whole thing off, squeeze it into a ball, and throw it away. I was screeching, crying, and 'carrying on', as it were. I'm lucky no one happened to walk in, I would have a boatload of explaining to do.

This has never happened at work before, though. It happens at home all the time, I freak out at little stuff like that because I've never been able to deal with it. But, I've always felt embarrassed enough to snap out of it when I'm in public, I guess.

To an onlooker, it would look like a childish tantrum. I guess essentially that's what it is. To be honest, I'm now having trouble distinguishing whether or not ASD has anything to do with this, or whether this is me not growing up or otherwise maturing as a person.

This is a big deal. Normally this has been confined to my own house. If it starts happening outside, that will cause more issues. I might need to start looking for some additional help. The only problem is, it doesn't happen regularly, it all depends on the circumstance.

198 Name: BarabiSama !!C8QPa1Mt : 2014-07-31 20:59 ID:C2Zsd11g [Del]

I'm pretty sure the only reason Thiamor is throwing a fit about Xephlrek is because Xeph is replacing him as, "that one bitch nobody likes but has to listen to because he doesn't break enough rules to be banned." Thia is clearly very threatened by this potential loss of his position.

>>197 OH. That. My mom and one of my friends do the same thing. Gotta admit, it's pretty scary when you're an onlooker and don't really know what to do other than to let them get it all out (and not comment on it afterwards so as to not embarrass them). I'm sure it different between people, but for them, it seems like a mix between anxiety, impatience, and usually holding their emotions in otherwise. It just kinda comes all out every now and again in fits like that.

199 Name: Inuhakka !u4InuhakKA : 2014-07-31 22:52 ID:2mojk+aI [Del]

>>198 You know what, I like Xephlrek loads more than Thiamor. Thiamor is a dick to newbies because they are newbies, and doesn't even bother to do research to make sure they are newbies before he says something stupid. At least Xephlrek is not a dick as often. Although, I strongly disagree with his stance on feminism, obviously.
He still hasn't taught me his hacks yet.

Also, they both have terrible phrasing. I don't if it's because English is their second language, but Thiamor in particular says things in a terrible, confusing way, and while Xephlrek does it less often I still see it.

As for the real reason, I think he's just as terrible at perceiving communication as delivering it.

Also, someone put me on their favorites list. I think this is my first one.

And, I have done some more research and I think ASD is a big contributor. In more severe cases, the same thing happens with more frequency. I can't really explain why it makes me so angry and scared. The best way to put it is a total loss of control of my environment. This is very, very upsetting to me. I can deal with changes I can't control, but when I can't even control my own hands or what I'm trying to do, it's very upsetting and I freak out. Whether that is contained to my mind or not is dependent mainly on my circumstances, eg. in public or at work. Fear can sometimes hold those freak outs in place.

It's stuff like this that make me want to hit people that say "It's a gift!"

Thanks for hijacking this thread, Barabi. :)

Okay, I have a question about this quotation punctuation shit. When you are finishing a sentence with a quote, where does the punctuation for the quote go? I was originally taught that it goes outside the quotes, like "...the end"!, but that looks stupid and makes no sense to me.

207 Name: BarabiSama !!C8QPa1Mt : 2014-08-04 11:02 ID:C2Zsd11g [Del]

>>206 Not sure what kind of quotes you mean, but if it's dialogue or a specific quote, then the end punctuation is always inside the quotes.

She shouted, "Blah blah blah!"
"Blah blah blah," she shouted.

^ Ditch the punctuation when the sentence continues after the dialogue and replace it with a comma, unless it's a question. v

"Blah blah blah?" she asked.

However, there are mixed rules about when you're using quotes for emphasis. It's usually taught in schools that the punctuation still goes inside, but most of the grammar books I've read have different rules on it.

That girl thinks she's so "perfect." (public education)
That girl thinks she's so, "perfect." (book one)
That girl thinks she's so "perfect". (book two)

When in doubt, just put the punctuation inside the quotes.

208 Name: Inuhakka !SySTEMicAk : 2014-08-04 20:04 ID:vEo9dp+e [Del]

>>207 It's when there's a sentence afterwards, that's when it gets tricky. It does look kind of awkward going from an end quote into a sentence, like:

She said, "Go here!" So, I did.

That just looks awkward between the sentences. There's no clear end.

She said, "Go here"! So, I did.

This makes the sentences separated better, but then the exclamation point is part of the quote so that doesn't make sense.

She said, "Go here!". So, I did.

This one makes the most sense to me, but all my teachers say there should only be one punctuation mark and say the second one is correct. In your last case, I would think the last one makes sense. The period doesn't add anything to the quote, eg. it's not really part of the quote, whereas a question mark would be because it can change the whole quote.

Honestly, I don't know if most people care about that, and if they didn't neither would I. I don't want to end up looking like I don't know English if they do, hence my worries.

And sorry, that's my specialty p:

Nah, my mom's just being obnoxious as usual. I had the pleasure today of being called a "cunt" who's "never shown any respect" towards her.

>probably the most respectful kid on the east coast
(minus my swearing and inability to do chores in a timely manner)

After that, I commented on being tired of dealing with her (which is the first time I've said something of that sort to her) and she even replied by saying she's tired of being my mother, so. That's not something the parent is supposed to say. No matter how many times my brother said he hated her, she never said it back, yet she's so quick to say that I'm just a hindrance to her when I've been nothing but the good kid.

I flipped shit when she left after that and, after delving into the fourth experience I've had with "anger" (not a common emotion for me believe it or not), decided that if she wants disrespect, I'll give it to her. I'll live without a birthday present if it means I can get my point across. The rest of our limited conversations of the day have just been swear words.

I'm just super super frustrated since she's blatantly not acting like a mom at all and disregarding anything I do as some kind of complex ploy to get her sympathy. It's not. I've always been good because I cared about her and respected her, not because I want something from her. She knows that I've never asked for much beyond some videogames or second hand clothing. Where she gets the idea that I'm trying to manipulate her, I don't know.

And it's like nothing I've done up until now matters.

All of that groundwork I laid as a kid to have a good relationship with at least one of my parents is apparently invisible to anyone except me.

I thought I did everything right. I have a bad mouth, but I'm a good kid. I did well in school. I stayed with the "good kids." I never did drugs or had sex or snuck out at night. I never went to big parties. I followed all the rules of the house. She doesn't appreciate any of that, nor what I've done for her specifically. I took care of her every time she broke down after her break ups and abuse. I had to give up any possible social life to babysit her ass from late elementary school to my early high school years so that I could make sure she didn't kill herself with the prescriptions she horded or nooses she hid. I put up with all her shitty boyfriends no matter how they treated me. I guarded her damn room at night so my brother didn't steal from her, and I would stay up late on days when all those idiots in this house fought so I could intervene if they started to get out of hand.

I didn't get a fucking childhood beyond being five or six because I was too busy making sure they all didn't kill each other.

And what do I get for it? I get called a cunt. Very, very, very frustrating. I officially give up on this family. I'm going to stop taking them and anything I've done for them seriously. When all of the crap I ordered for my hobocation comes in, I'll be good as gone without any intention of staying in contact with them. I don't care if I have to change my name when I turn 18.

I'm done.

>>224 Well, I ended being the same sort of do-good child you are talking about, except my mother respects me.

I am guessing from this summary she believes there is some specific reason she should be nice towards your brother, but not towards you, and as such has higher expectations for you. The same kind of thing happened to me somewhat, so it might be the reason. In any case, there seems to be something else going on. It just seems, like you said, ridiculous. I'm bad at this sort of help thing, so...yeah. Take it with a grain of salt.

I'm feeling a little down too. Reminiscing over my 'childhood'. Although it wasn't taken away by early responsibility, it was taken away by Aspergers.

I am continuing to enter into situations where people have no idea what Aspergers is. They think I'm good at computers and I'm shy. That is the extent of their knowledge. I believe it's easier to think it's not that bad to have it, so they just assume that's correct.

Now, it's fine. I can control it for the most part, and it's only horrible some of the time. As a kid, it is nothing less than hell on Earth. There's no other way I can describe it. It makes everything stupidly difficult. The most difficult part about it is people don't really believe it exists.

When you have Autism, people are scared into basically doing anything for you. Everyone thinks Autism means you are a helpless being that needs all the care in the world. No one would argue against helping someone with Autism, that's cruel. If you have Aspergers, however, no one gives a fuck. They don't seriously believe anything you do is outside of the norm. They rationalize it as immature behavior, which to them means a lack of effort on my part to control myself.

Example: I can't focus in class. This is a little while ago in Grades 1-3. I'm never doing work, making noises, etc. The teacher sees me not doing work, and they of course assume that I'm like everyone else in the class and don't want to do it. Their response is to punish me for not doing it in the hopes that I will stop not doing it for fear of being punished.

However, what they don't know is I am engaged in a tic to act out the energy of doing the work. I imagine 8 - 3 as a boxer beating the shit out of a guy twice the size of him, literally beating the 3 out of him to make him 5. I also used this image to subtract more complex numbers, so I can easily segment multiple subtracts visually. 64 - 12, hits once to get out the two, then uppercut to get out the 10 = 52. I still use that to this day, in fact, I had to right fucking now to do that math. If I don't use this, it takes me ages longer. If I do use it, it takes me seconds.

So, when I am punished for this every single goddamn time it happens, it's fucking horrible. It's like punishing someone with Tourrettes every time they do their tic, and in fact it is this same exact mechanism of the nervous system that causes me to do my tics. I was being punished for something I was born with, something I could never hope to control as a child when I barely fucking understood myself, let alone the world around me. It was hell.

This extended to social stuff too, except in this case the people interacting with me give even less of a fuck what I feel like. You can probably guess how those went as a kid.

Even now, people expect I will be perfectly normal except for two distinct things, like being shy and not being good at English. I try to explain that when I freak out, it isn't because I'm simply immature and don't give a shit, but they really can't grasp that a human being can be like that. They say, 'Woah, calm down!' as if I can just fucking calm down. Fuck.

Fuck this shit.
Fuck people.

Fuck.

I have so much more to say, that I likely will never say to anyone. It's sort of sad. :/
But, hey, thanks for reading if you bothered. I hope maybe when you meet someone with hardcore ASD, you'll remember this...maybe.

>>237 Well, that makes me feel a bit better.

I admit, I wasn't really clear about what I was saying, but she kept assuming I thought the cops were completely right because I thought the protesters were not all guiltless in the situation.

Honestly, I think no one really knows what happened in the struggle that started this all. People read a few Facebook posts and suddenly they know what happened, and people from both sides do that. Right now, it's looking a lot more like he really did commit a robbery, the cop didn't know about that, and he did punch the cop in the face.

That being said, he should be punished, regardless. The only response that was appropriate was essentially to use force back. It only makes sense to shoot if lives are in danger.

And, I'm not too sure what the cops are supposed to do if there are a large group of people no doubt harboring outsiders or people that want to do more than protest. Are they simply supposed to wait until rioters do something bad, then punish them? How can they know who is trying to start something more?

Also, there was never a tank in the town. It was an armored truck.

Fucking fuck.
Fuck, this just gets me so fucking rattled. This kind of stuff always gets me rattled unnecessarily. People have settled into their opinions before they even know what the fuck happened.
The best comment I've seen is this:

"One of our principal talents as human beings is pattern matching. This mental tool allows us to take a minimal amount of information, and with a reasonable rate of success, predict the rest of the pattern.

All too often, we use this talent as an excuse to validate our world view. An intellectual crutch that we use instead of a rigorous examination of available facts. We look at just enough data to convince ourselves that the world works the way we think it does, and then disregard the rest.

We don't have all the facts. I'm going to wait until the investigations are complete, the reports published, the trials held before I reach my conclusions. Of course I have bias, but I'm willing to remain open to the possibility that there are factors that I am unaware of.

Time will tell."

I have decided to stick to this, above all else.

I probably should stop having these kinds of conversations with people. I really do think it is me. It's even happened with you, to an extent. Maybe it's just my age.

So, wow. I learned a lot over the weekend about topics I never thought I'd talk about with people I never thought knew about them.

I've decided I'm only going to watch Super Smash Brother for entertainment and only play it with friends. I'm dumping all that time into HTML/CSS/JS, and completing some projects for my Dad's company and making money during University.

:)
Things are finally going kind of right.

Thanks for everything, Barabi.

Thanks for everything you have taught me over this year. The conversations we had taught me things I just couldn't learn elsewhere. The conversations we had that ended in what you likely thought was pointless rage taught me the most. I'm glad I got to meet you, if only for a while.

Good luck on your trip. I wish I could offer you my home, but I don't actually own one, so...yeah.

Good luck, anyhow. I hope you meet Chrome someday, from what I hear he's been waiting to meet you :)

Hi, Barabi. Everything's okay, I just had no Internet access for a while.

There is something sad that happened here, though. Throughout the University, I have met people that look like almost every member of the Dollars I've seen. Without fail, even with you, I've seen people that look so ungodly similar to many people here.

This should be a cool experience, but it has made me rather sad. It has reminded me that I will likely never meet any of you in person. This is the closest I will come. This made me really upset, actually. It was in particular when I met a girl that looked very much like you. I was strangely attracted to her for some reason I didn't understand. This, I think, is why she and others were so striking to me, and why I got so upset.

So, I've been kind of upset about that. There is a limit that has been placed here. This online community will remain just that, I guess.

I can't really post anywhere else for now, for reasons I'm sure you've already suspected by now. With time, I'm sure I'll come back.

Thanks for everything, Barabi. Thanks for caring. It's...well, it's a lot. Thanks. :)

Wow, that's really uncanny o-o I've never met someone who looked like a Dollars member to me, but some of the members do look super similar to my old friends.

And we can totally meet in person one day :'O I've intended for a while to travel around US/CA to bother all the regulars once I have enough money to get a car and some reasonable income (though that probably won't be for at least a few years lol).

It is upsetting, though, especially with all the people who have come and gone that you know may never return to the site. I thought you were quitting for good there :c But I understand that you need time to get settled into school and relax and all that.

No problem ♥ Even if I don't act like it all the time, I care a lot about you guys~ I'm glad to hear you're doing alright. Good luck with everything you've got goin' on :3

Theoretically, if you saved your password every time your ID changes and kept a record of it, wouldn't you always be able to delete your posts just by editing the value in the URL? 'cuz it does show your password when you try to delete someone else's post in the URL, and since it's the same on every board, it shouldn't be too time consuming to keep track of.

Water is one of those people that is so over dramatic and "d33p" about every little thing that I can't read an entire post of his without wanting to put my face through the computer screen.

Though, Seira is legit. 'tis his fiance.

People really shouldn't use the same usernames and pictures for everything, otherwise creeps like Anon and I come along.

343 Name: Inuhakka !inb4CaTsQw : 2014-12-11 01:18 ID:vkt1d/gK [Del]

>>342 I don't use this username anywhere else, and every account I've shared has been under a different name, created through public WiFi. I have, unfortunately, revealed my location fairly specifically and where I am going to school. Fortunately, I have no presence anywhere on the Internet under my real name except on Neopets. As it stands, I kind of did not do this whole anonymous thing so well. That pales in comparison to Water, of course.

Over-dramatic is the best term. I see some of myself in him, but only in the way he likely feels about perceived 'attacks'. I don't really speak like he does. Sometimes I can't even tell what he's saying.

Anyway, I didn't think he'd survive long on this site. He put himself waaaay out there and expected that nothing would happen. Maybe he should be able to, but he should also be able to just step back and say, "This doesn't matter."

In this case, I knew he was at least sort of full of shit, so I didn't need to do any research. The only one I did extensive research on was Renia, for reasons you already know. Unfortunately, that never panned out and while I still know who she is, she doesn't come on regularly enough for it to really matter. Oh, well. Can't have everything.
But, that was one time when I think I got some pretty good information from pure effort. No search engines doing anything for me. It's a good skill to have and I wish I were good at it.

Do we seriously have to come up with different terms for every possible combination of feelings someone can have?

I always compare it to making up a term for the combination of mental challenges I have, and I keep thinking it's equally stupid. There's just no real need. People aren't going to get suddenly educated because you made up a word. They aren't going to suddenly believe you when they didn't before. They aren't going to start caring now, either. It seems like self-serving nothingness rather than something intended to help anything else.

I understand the important of a diagnoses. I really do, I'm in the middle of that shitstorm right now. Getting someone else to say, "Yes, you are suffering more than other people" or "No, other people don't feel this way" is very empowering. But, you get addicted to it a point, I think, because I sure did.

Maybe I'm missing something integral to this whole thing, but from what I've seen the progression of this sexuality label-maker movement has not been in what I would consider a helpful direction.

Whether it's inadvertently helping or not, Spammy is just fucking around for fun, and his attitude really annoys me.

It bugs me because he's one of maybe three script spammers we've ever had yet people are still falling for his nonsense about it being a serious problem. Security is important, yes, but so is context. Locking this site up tight is like storing your motorcycle in a blast proof safe underneath your garage when you live in the middle of fucking nowhere. Sure, you may have caught a few 'cross-country travelers messing around with it in the past, but that's no reason to go that far.

Not to mention that a site is never fully secured. Reltair already took measures to defend against the script he made public last time. Now he's back for fun with another. It's just a loop that is going to repeat over and over again. Even huge sites with teams of security management like Facebook and Google have security problems that any determined asshat can, and do, find that constantly require them to update against.

368 Name: Inuhakka !inb4CaTsQw : 2015-01-16 10:52 ID:Yf9h2mjI [Del]

>>367 It is a she.

I don't imagine they are doing it solely to help, but in having fun they are helping. They haven't gone nuts spamming the site like last time, and they stopped only because they knew the spam would affect Reltair's site. I think that's pretty caring, if you ask me.

The difference here is every time spam happens, it's not a simple clean up anymore. The business Reltair runs is fucked over, but as you've already said that is his own decision to fix since we don't go there.

I also think finding this bug with the Captcha is orders of magnitude easier than finding bugs with YouTube. Heartbeat was not that difficult to exploit, at all. You just had to falsify the length of a string, and you had direct access to memory. That took researchers a year to find, not because of how difficult it was to use. This one took Spammy 35 minutes. There's always holes in bigger site's security, yes, but the people trying to get in are leagues more experienced and dangerous than Spammy. Not any determined guy can find them. Whereas for these holes, it really doesn't take a whole lot. I guess I'm saying while sites will always have security holes, these ones are considerably more glaring.

In this case, most of the stuff that happens from spam happens to Reltair. We can't use the site, but we don't lose information, security, etc, whereas he loses access to his business. So, publishing it doesn't do much good for the users since we can't change passwords or withdraw our information, all we can do is wait. It does force Reltair's hand, I guess, but so does everyone emailing him, which she could just rally on her own.

Yeah, she's not really doing the right thing, but it could be horribly worse, and she's proven she does care, if even a little.

But did they really stop for that reason, or do they just want to come off that way? I doubt they really give two shits. Imo, they just realized their other methods didn't get them as much attention.

"Not any determined guy can find them." They sure as hell can with enough effort. And I was only using the big sites as an example in that it has to be looked at proportionally.

Sorry if my ranting implied otherwise, but I'm honestly not interested in debating this topic since it has nothing to do with anyone except Reltair. It's his business, not ours, and there's no reason it should have been brought up to us in the first place :\

Otherkin...what an interesting topic. Maybe I don't know enough about it, but it seems odd.

I really don't see the difference in harm between believing you are an animal and believing you are enlightened. Hurting yourself physically, eating rocks and other inedible objects, these things are clearly harmful. But, are they more harmful than distancing yourself from people that don't share your faith if you are Christian, believing other people will literally burn for eternity if they don't follow rules you believe in, or simply believing that another person is evil for doing something you don't? Not all Christians do these things, but a lot do, and similarly not all Otherkin eat rocks. Some of them just believe what they do and see the world differently. It's kind of cringe-y to declare that belief 'unhealthy' just because it's 'not true'. It's like me raging to Christians that their belief in God is making them unhealthy, bringing up all these examples of when other Christians killed thousands of people for their faith, etc.

Anyone can see you can be a Christian and not feel the need to kill or hate anyone, and you can simply believe in the Bible without replicating any of the events that appear in it. Saying Christianity is terrible because of cases when people kill for it is then clearly illogical. Why is this same school of thought not followed for any other system of beliefs that is publicly represented by a group of children, like Christianity seems all too often to be?

377 Name: BarabiSama !lmBitchbiw : 2015-01-30 14:31 ID:mUOUR024 [Del]

>>376 I wrote out a long ass post trying to agree with you because I really do want to say religion is nuts in its own right, but in the end, I just couldn't. The only thing they share is that they are both coping mechanisms.

Otherkin is often considered a unique form of dissociation, which is an actual subset of mental disorders that are used to cope by changing the patient's personal identity in one way or another. It detaches them from their sense of self, which protects them from the problems and responsibilities at hand.

Religion is a much more understandable way of coping. By believing something better is waiting for you (in the afterlife) and that your hardships are the trials given to you by a father figure to become the best person (soul) you can be, life suddenly becomes so much more bearable and meaningful.

Religious extremists and bornagains, of course, probably do have problems of their own that they need checked out.

378 Name: Anonymous : 2015-01-30 15:36 ID:9NpBe6rX [Del]

>Religion is a much more understandable way of coping

I don't think this is objectively correct. Take the age-old classic: a cancer patient undergoes 7 hours of grueling surgery from a team of doctors, and when they survive they say "Thank God". I think this is the worst kind of dissociation. You fail to recognize the amazing things people around you are doing and attribute it to God and His plan.

Not all Christians take the world as an opportunity to become a better person, perhaps not even most. All too often they use their belief as a crutch, to deal with feelings and thoughts they can't deal with on their own. The same detachment of sense of self certainly occurs with Christianity. Instead of dealing with the fact that they are a human in a world of 7 billion humans, they can be safe in their belief that they are a child of God and are the most important organism in the Universe. Of course, not everyone extends this to the lengths of assuming you are better than someone else, but many do. This is not a good thing, but it is not because of Christianity. It's really because of them. So, when someone tells me they are Christian, I do not assume they are a Bible-thumping blind follower of something they don't understand. I don't think it's fair to assume someone who is Otherkin is mentally handicapped in the same respect. That is really my main point in all this; just like I would not judge someone for being Christian, I would withhold the same unfair judgement from Otherkin. I guess I do not see the differences you have pointed out as significant enough to label one understandable and the other a mental disorder.

In the end, neither one of us can really say for sure, since as I take it you are not Otherkin, and I am not religious nor Otherkin. There are not enough Otherkin I know to really say if the vast majority of them 'abuse' their beliefs so to speak. It's quite possible that only a small minority of Otherkin are rational about their beliefs, as I said I don't know any. But form what I've read, it's quite possible to be Otherkin and live a healthy life full of human interaction. Question is, does anyone actually do that?

379 Name: BarabiSama !lmBitchbiw : 2015-01-30 18:03 ID:mUOUR024 [Del]

>>378 "I don't think this is objectively correct."

I disagree. Maybe it is not "objectively" correct, but of all the things you can do and be to cope, thinking, "There's something better ahead (the afterlife) that I can reach as long as I accept what has happened to me and what I have done (confession) and strive to follow my father's wishes," seems to make a lot more sense than, "there's a squirrel inside me that talks in my head."

Saying "thank God" doesn't mean you have no recognition that the people around you saved your life. If that were the case, Christians wouldn't care one bit about who their surgeon was or if they even got surgery since it would be entirely up to God. Those kinds of extremists and religions following those customs, however, do have a problem.

Most religions are just a moral compass, if you will, by giving people hope with a promise of better days. Even the negative aspects of it (stoning virgins to death, cutting off the hand of a thief, etc) are to work towards a world that follows the same direction of the compass. The spiritual aspects are just used to convince people to do so. Religion in itself is social manipulation, and being manipulated is not a disorder in itself, nor are the constructs of Christianity and most major religions.

"Not all Christians take the world as an opportunity to become a better person" I never said they did. That has nothing to do with being sane.

"All too often they use their belief as a crutch, to deal with feelings and thoughts they can't deal with on their own." That's what most coping mechanisms do. Whether you cope through religion, art, work, exercise, or mental illness, they're all unhealthy when abused because you're still running from your problems.

"Instead of dealing with the fact that they are a human in a world of 7 billion humans, they can be safe in their belief that they are a child of God and are the most important organism in the Universe." I think you're misunderstanding something. Being a child of God is not separate from being a human. It just means they all have the same father down the line. It doesn't make them any less of a human, although it does put them above other animals, which is a common thought that has never been universally limited to the religious.

"I don't think it's fair to assume someone who is Otherkin is mentally handicapped in the same respect." Did I say they were handicapped? No, just ill. Again, the concept of religion isn't a mental disorder or condition. A concept encouraging you to think you, personally, are something that you are not inside, is. Saying that you have a spiritual father separate from your own does not change who you are or your general identity in life.

>A concept encouraging you to think you, personally, are something that you are not
This is subjective, as I can say the same about Christians. I can say they are not a child of God, they were not created in the image of the maker of the Universe, they are not special, they are a spec on a spec in a spec. It could seem awfully unhealthy to me, but clearly not to someone else.

>they're all unhealthy when abused because you're still running from your problems

It seems like we mostly agree, I just have trouble understanding why you don't think there's any way being Otherkin can be healthy or even "not a mental disorder". You say religion can be unhealthy, this is surely true. I know being Otherkin can be unhealthy, there are many examples. But, it seems like you think the Christian way of coping is somehow much different than the Otherkin way of coping. Christians experience hardship and justify it with "God is testing me, that's why I'm feeling pain" while Otherkin might say "I'm not even human, that's why I'm feeling pain", while both do not see the hardships are not created by anyone other than them. There are differences, of course; this is a simplification of things. But, in either case, they could take that coping mechanism as it is and simply deal with pain, or both of them can take it further and start to become unhealthy as you said. Do you think it's just easier or more encouraged for Otherkin to go too far?

If it is changing your own view of yourself, I don't think that's a good way to label it either. It's subjective. Who defines what someone 'is'? How do you know they aren't a fairy in a human's body? I think it's just as impossible to know that as it is for me to know a Christian is not a special being created in the image of the guy who literally created the universe. Don't get me wrong here, I am not trying to bash Christianity at all. I long got past that phase of thinking I was hot shit because I 'figured it out'. I am saying if you break down both of these, they seem equally illogical and I don't see how religion is more understandable. I would totally understand if you didn't think it made sense, because I'm not Otherkin and I don't believe in it, but I don't think you can just label it a mental disorder for everyone that believes in it. I guess that's my main problem.

Maybe it fits the actual definition of a mental disorder, but then in that case I don't think you can label a mental disorder as a bad thing, objectively.

I also have trouble defining 'unhealthy'. It seems like that's pretty subjective. There's definitely objective measurements you can take, like your physical health. You could say someone's unhealthy if they are too light or too heavy. But, all-in-all if they live a happy life and don't hurt anyone, how can you say that's unhealthy? I'm curious, mind you, that's an actual question. I would think it's only unhealthy if you start hurting other people because of it.

Had a post, chose to erase most of it. We're probably never going to see eye-to-eye on this, or at least not until you've had more experience with them. Everything about the actual Otherkin communities (beyond Tumblr) are textbook for identity disorders and heavily promote them as positive things. Religion has absolutely nothing to do with it other than hiding the problems at hand.

Some people who have DID are told, "No, you're really possessed by demons!" by religious people. Does that mean I should go, "Oh, well we don't know that they aren't possessed by demons, so I guess we can't call it a disorder?" No. It doesn't change that it is a disorder and that it has treatments which have been successful for other patients.

Just because these kids are saying they're reincarnated does not mean that we can just go, "Oh, well we don't know that a lion's spirit isn't actually inside them, so we can't call it a disorder or say they should get treatment! We should just let them promote a known disorder as a positive thing under the guise of religion!"

I don't understand why you are so dead set on comparing the idea of sharing an ancestor to the idea of changing yourself to identify with a different species. They have nothing to do with each other. All I can think is that you are so caught up in the big picture of religion that you're misunderstanding the very few details that would actually matter to the discussion.

382 Name: Anonymous : 2015-01-31 19:30 ID:YdlESNxA [Del]

>>381 What I don't understand is why you are so sure any kind of belief system that changes the way you view yourself is a mental disorder that needs treatment, regardless of the details or how it affects their life. Sure, maybe people who have had treatments have gotten happier. But, people who used to be religious that converted to Atheism or Agnosticism became very much happier then. Does that mean being religious is preventing people form being happy? Obviously not.

So, why is it a disorder that needs treatment, regardless of circumstances? You don't think any kind of belief that makes you have the soul of an animal could be healthy or even neutral? I see a group of people that believe they have a different soul, you see a group of people that need immediate treatment for their disorder. I assume you think they need treatment because it will make them happier and get to the root of their problems rather than avoiding them? So, how is that different from converting a Christian or something like that?

And, it's not purely that I just disagree with you and I'm trying to convince you, that's pretty much a waste of time in most cases. I just cannot understand why you think there is a difference. I'm not just going to keep arguing no matter what you say, I really want to know why. If I keep going, it's because I don't understand.

The only thing I can think of when they invite me me over is "Are they going to try to kiss me or something? I'm not ready for this my mouth is gross shit I can't go. What if they want to snuggle or something shiiiiiiiiit", and then it degrades from there. I know, it's dumb and stereotypical, like they're not necessarily going to make all the first moves. I don't know...I'm not cut out for this shit, man.

It's not like I wouldn't want to do any of those things, even.

"why you are so sure any kind of belief system that changes the way you view yourself is a mental disorder that needs treatment"
Did I say that 'every single belief system that changes your view of yourself' is a mental disorder? No. I am talking specifically about the beliefs and community of the Otherkin, which distinctly match known mental illnesses regarding identity.

"needs treatment, regardless of the details or how it affects their life... regardless of circumstances"
I never said anything about disregarding the details of each case. Treatment isn't always the best option for some people. Explained below.

When a mental illness is called a disorder, it is because it negatively affects the person's day to day life and needs treatment for them to be really functional in society. There will always be rare cases of people are not diagnosed with disorders despite having the illness related to it; they can still function, so therapists instead refer to it as a condition and recommend against treatment.

But that does not change that 1) you should see a specialist anyway to know whether or not it is affecting you negatively, and 2) you should not be encouraging others to think positively of what is usually a dangerous disorder. I don't know if you realize it, but with DID especially (which is what Otherkin is considered a part of) over 70% of patients attempt to commit suicide. It's not something to take lightly.

"Sure, maybe people who have had treatments have gotten happier."
Maybe. Then again, a lot of people who have been treated for mental illnesses (and even physical ailments) are miserable because they lost their crutch and are forced to face the real world again. I think Mushishi touches up on this in one of their episodes too.

"You don't think any kind of belief that makes you have the soul of an animal could be healthy or even neutral?"
In the post I originally wrote up and deleted, I actually talked about how it's totally fine for people to believe in having the souls of animals. There are entire religions and cultures centered around this idea (India, I'm looking at you). But when this belief extends into your personal identity and how you function in life, it's a problem, and the culture around Otherkin keeps these people from taking it seriously.

"I assume you think they need treatment because it will make them happier and get to the root of their problems rather than avoiding them?"
Fuck their temporary happiness. It's so their family doesn't have to find them with a gun in their mouth the second that fake wall they built to protect them crumbles from the pressure that has built up over years of avoidance.

"how is that different from converting a Christian"
Being a Christian doesn't significantly impact your ability to work or live a decent life. You can be a Christian all your life and reap the fake happiness it gives eternally in a way that you can't with a disorder, as we've see every day on the news with big figures who are religious.

Okay, so I guess this is more than changing the way you view yourself, but I thought it was kind of subjective what 'you are' inside, get me?

>Fuck their temporary happiness
Uh, I think you may have misunderstood. I meant you think they need treatment so they can be happy without avoiding anything.

I think I get it a lot more now. You can't ride out the avoidance until you die, clearly. Whereas, with Christianity you probably can. It deals with the world better. You could experience a lot on the Earth without having any of it destroy you if you were Christian, but that doesn't look true of Otherkin.

>>387 I understand what you mean, I guess I wanted a safe haven for my obviously unpopular opinion.

Yeah, it's not made for me either, pal. It's not really made for humans, to be honest. It naturally makes them miserable.
But, not everyone kills themselves, even when they experience a lot of pain, so I find it odd that you can instantly blame all of society when someone who does kill themselves is trans. Seems like another strain of that transphobia you are hating on so much.

Also Tsuki on Chat Quotes...clever as always.

>>401 The whole closing-saged-threads thing is pretty new tbh. It seems like they're usually closed if:

1) it's obvious bait,
2) keeping it open would spread false information that could cause more threads (fake news, "realistic" roleplaying, etc),
3) the discussion could continue for a while when there is another place to have it (i.e., if someone made a duplicate Dollars Day thread and people started having serious discussions there instead),
4) the matter is dealt with or passed (a fixed glitch notice, a time-limited mission), or
5) derp.

Sometimes the closures really don't make sense without an explanation.

I think some the mods periodically go for the word-of-god route and close threads that they think aren't negotiable to be unsaged as well. I don't totally agree with it since I've always appreciated being to debate about permasages, but I get the frustration with how much they've been harassed lately about sages. "If the users aren't willing to have a civil debate about their thread being challenged and instead immediately devolve the conversation into flaming over the modding system as a whole, why would the mods continue to give them a chance to talk about it in the first place?" I guess.

I do see many instances where no one has mentioned anything about it being permasaged, or really anything other than 'Yeah, that's great!' before it gets closed. I really don't get how you can come onto a website you've never used before, do something that you consequently aren't sure is right, be told by people who have used the site for years it is not right, and actually think they are wrong.
