>>7 The FAQ says ID is generated through IPv4, which controls that computer's internet use. Like most (if not all) other websites, this site takes the IPv4 direct from the computer itself when the page is loading. It's like: Computer with an IP 'xyz' requests to load page 'abc'. Computer 'xyz' posts on page 'abc', and a code generated to correlate to that IP is its ID. Computer 'xyz' also loads and posts on page 'mno'. Since it's the same computer, with the same IP, the same ID is used. I think that's how it works, but I may be wrong.
People on different computers than their normal ones often say 'Name (on another computer)'. Wouldn't want people to think you are a copycat using someone else's name with a different ID, when it really is you either way. This cheap form of identity fraud has happened to a few more frequent posters, which I am not, but it still annoys me that the ID is different. Once, I realized a day after a post of mine that I had accidentally double-posted. I went to delete the duplicate, but couldn't because the IP and therefore the ID changed somehow. I'm on the same computer, how did the IP change? I created this thread to test out a few theories, which didn't work.
Ahh technology. Gotta love it.
