I've recently been attempting to become more private and secure online, so I modified a number of settings in my Firefox browser. While doing this, I came across a plugin titled "widevine content decryption module", which apparently allows for the playback of encrypted media. Internet searches don't exactly clarify what that means, but to my understanding it allows you to watch videos from Netflix and other such paid services. I am concerned because this plugin is a Google product and you know how Google is with its data collection... so my questions are 1) if I don't watch any paid media, such as Netflix, do I need Widevine enabled? 2) if so, could I remove it from my computer entirely instead of merely disabling it?
